Ceramica Alberdi
refurbishes its factory
Ceramica Rosario, Argentina, has
entrusted Sacmi Heavy Clay with
its recent factory upgrade project aimed at increasing capacity, improving product quality and
saving energy. Set up as a partnership between Later-Cer and
Ceramica Alberdi, an Argentine
ceramic group with more than
a century of history, the company has an output of 18,000 tons/
month of clay bricks and blocks.
The upgrade work included almost completely refurbishing the
continuous tunnel dryer, which is
now equipped with a main heating chamber and a moist zone
recycling circuit. The dryer features an internal ventilation function which uses high-efficiency
moving cones to keep the air
flow directed with precision at
the holes in the items to be dried.
Based on modern fluid dynamic analysis, these diffuser cones
maintain a constant airflow over
the entire height of the dryer car.
The cones are moved by means
of a continuous transmission system. The existing tunnel kiln was
completely re-engineered and
fitted with modern equipment including a pre-heat recycle circuit,
lateral high-speed burners and a
fast and slow cooling circuit with
heat recovery for use in the counter-pressure dryer. An automatic
adjustment, control and supervision system for the dryer and kiln
was also supplied. The goals were
achieved in a rapid timeframe
thanks to close cooperation between Ceramica Rosario and Sacmi in every stage of the project.

Ceramitec 2015, the international exhibition of heavy clay
and ceramic technologies
held in Munich, came to an
end on 23 October. The Messe
Munchen exhibition centre
hosted 617 companies (compared to 613 in 2012) from 37
countries in an exhibition space
of 40,000 square metres. The
largest number of international
exhibitors were from Italy, followed by France, Spain, China,
Greece, Great Britain, Austria,
Turkey and the Czech Republic. The show attracted 15,000
visitors from 93 countries (16,800
in 2012), once again demonstrating its strong international

Life Herotile, a project organised as part of a European research programme (LIFE14CCA/IT/000939)

revolutionising roofing systems,
was launched on 1 August
2015. The three-year project received EU funding of 1.5 million
euros and aims to improve the
energy behaviour of buildings
by enhancing under-tile ventilation. During the Mediterranean summer, solar radiation may
cause overheating of the building envelope (roof and walls)
and consequently of the interior
of the building, resulting in the
need for air conditioners. Well
aware that ventilated walls and
roofs are excellent passive systems ideal for limiting thermal effects in hot climates, Life Herotile
aims to build two pilot plants for
the production of two new tiles
(Marseille and Portuguese) with
greater air permeability and improved energy performance.
This will make them ideal for dissipating solar radiation through
under-tile ventilation. The second step involves testing the behaviour of the new tiles on two
demonstration roofs, each with
7 different types of tiles, located
in Mediterranean regions (Italy
and Israel), and on two full-size
buildings in Italy and Spain. The

e ceramica.
Il quartiere fieristico di Messe

di 40.000 mq.

della fiera. Nel padiglione B1 sono transitati circa 4.000 operatori che hanno partecipato alle varie giornate dedicate agli approfondimenti, in particolare quelli riguardanti l’industria 4.0, i temi della digitalizzazione e la metallurgia delle polveri. Ceramitec
torna nel 2018, dal 10 al 13 Aprile.

È stato avviato il 1° agosto 2015 Life Herotile, un progetto che rientra nell’ambito di una ricerca europea (LIFE14CCA/IT/000939), destinata a rivoluzionare il sistema
tetto. Il progetto, che ha ricevuto il finanziamento europeo di 1,5
milioni di euro, avrà una durata di
3 anni e si pone l’obiettivo di migliorare il comportamento energetico degli edifici per effetto di
una maggiore ventilazione sottotegola. Nell’area mediterranea le
radiazioni solari nel periodo estivo possono infatti provocare un
surriscaldamento dell’involucro
degli edifici (tetto e pareti) e conseguentemente degli ambienti interni, inducendo il ricorso ai con-
dizionatori. Poiché pareti e coperture ventilate rappresentano ottimi sistemi passivi per limitare gli
effetti termici nei climi caldi, Life
Herotile si propone di realizzare
2 impianti pilota per produrre due
nuove tegole (marsigliese e portoghese), caratterizzate da una maggiore permeabilità all’aria e un migliore rendimento energetico per
la dissipazione della radiazione solare attraverso la ventilazione sottotegola. Il secondo step prevede
di testare il comportamento delle
nuove tegole su 2 tetti dimostratori, ognuno con 7 diverse tipologie
di coperture, situati nelle regioni mediterranee (in Italia e Israele) e su due edifici in scala reale (in
Italia e Spagna). Sulla base dei dati sperimentali raccolti, sarà inoltre realizzato un software pratico,
semplificato e gratuito per architetti e tecnici (Sensapiro Software ENergy SAvings PItched ROofs)
in grado di prevedere l’effetto della configurazione del tetto con le
nuove tegole sul rendimento energetico di un edificio.

strips with different thicknesses

enhance façade aesthetics.
Once applied, these strips create a dynamic play of volumes
that project from the plane of
the façade, resulting in
original and visually striking geometries. Disegual is
ideal for cladding plinths,
columns and walls, for use
on door and window profiles, and for decorating
architectural details both
inside and outside living
spaces. Installation is quick
and simple and does not
require the use of specialist labour, thereby reducing costs considerably (the
strips can be placed side
by side without the need
for joints or grout). The end
result is identical to facing
bricks in terms of aesthetics and
performance, but has the added
advantage of low thickness. This
ensures compliance with architectural constraints and regulations on energy saving. Disegual

movimento di volumi che fuoriescono rispetto ad altri complanari descrivendo geometrie originali che impreziosiscono la facciata. Disegual è adatto per il rivestimento di zoccolature, pilastri, pareti, per il profilo di porte
e finestre, per il decoro dei particolari architettonici sia all’interno che all’esterno degli spazi abi-
tativi. La posa è semplice e veloce e non richiede l’utilizzo di maestranze specializzate (i listelli infatti si possono accostare anche
senza fughe e stuccature), consentendo un considerevole contenimento dei costi. aimed at cutting utility bills for
tenants is the goal achieved by
the public body Ater Umbria in
the design and construction of
18 negotiated rent homes at
San Sabino in the municipality of
Spoleto (handover November
2015). Collaboration with the
national brick and roof tile manufacturers’ association ANDIL
was a key aspect of the project.
In a memorandum of understanding signed in 2007, the Umbria region’s public residential
building authority undertook to
adopt experimental solutions
aimed at achieving high levels
of energy savings through the
use of heavy clay products.
Andil member companies supplied clay products free of
charge for all building components (roof, facade, floor, ceiling, loadbearing and partition
walls) with the aim of developing an experimental and innovative building product. The San

vetri termici. Il risultato è un complesso all’avanguardia nella sostenibilità ambientale ed energetica. Complessivamente l’importo
dell’intervento ammonta a 4 milioni e 200 mila euro.

by Absolut Keramik (Kazakhstan)
to build one of the most modern
plants in the Republic of Kazakhstan for the new production unit
due to be constructed in the city
of Kostanai, northwest of Astana. The contract will be worth
more than 17.5 million euros and
will allow for an annual production of 40 million high quality facing bricks and insulating blocks
