Aimpes’s first initiative against imitations: the itinerant cube, inaugurated in May 2006 in Riccione, with the slogan “Fakes are banned here”. Mipel Today 1.indd 1 Angelino Alfano, Italian Minister of the Interior, in announcing the 8 August measures called “carefree beaches” explains the reasons behind this decision: “Italians are fed up with the hoards of hawkers. We must wipe out imitations.” Consequently, he asks to Heads of Police to step up their checks to prevent illegal hawking on beaches. On this topic we asked Aimpes President, Giorgio Cannara’s opinion, and we will publish this in tomorrow’s issue. The 106th edition of Mipel- The Bagshow A show that knows how to please MIPEL TODAY From today 31 August to 3 September, a new edition of Mipel – The Bagshow, the most prestigious International Leather Goods and Fashion Accessories Exhibition worldwide, gets ready to start up again in Halls 8 and 12 of Fieramilano-Rho, with its presentation of the Spring-Summer 2015 collections. An exhibition area of around 15 thousand square meters will be the backdrop to the 300 estimated brands of bags, leather goods, and fashion accessories. The event’s organizers also anxiously await the reaction of buyers to the new show dates, which have been moved up to the beginning of September. Mipel 106 reconfirms all its innovate services for buyers and exhibitors, without every losing sight of its quality offerings, which remain of central importance. Greater coverage and visibility is provided to the exhibiting companies over the course of the fair, thanks to the precious support of Mipel News, the online magazine dedicated to the world of Mipel bags and accessories, which has become a point of reference in providing information on the sector. Another important change to the show is the restyling of Mipel’s e-Commerce platform, mipelstore.com, which as of September 2014 will feature a fresh look with renewed graphics and some new functions. A source of pride and a challenge to discover in the words of MIPEL AIMPES president Giorgio Cannara The MIPEL you are about to visit is unexpected. Much has changed since the last event, starting with the dates, very much earlier than our traditional September date. This novelty will enable buyers to see collections in advance and even if changes, at times, can be worrying, we are certain that this event will only provide positive ideas for a new course. Different fair, more, better, where “change” becomes the key word, guiding thread of this new MIPEL: the halls have a new look, completely redesigned both in structure and the way in which the summer 2015 collections are presented, but changes also from the point of view of buyers who increasingly flock to MIPEL, one and only trade fair of international atmosphere when it comes to the world of “bags”. There are four sectors exhibited in two halls, 8 and 12: Design Studios, which is located right at the entrance, in pole position compared with the March event, Extra, Punto. It and Panorama. This sub-division will enable buyers to plan their visit to the fair to suit their own requirements. Attention to buyers and exhibitors has always been our prerogative: this is why during the four days of MIPEL, visitors and exhibitors will find assistance; from refreshment points to the more practical needs of organisation, to get the most out of the visit to this fair. This year, MIPEL also wants to celebrate two big names of Italian leather goods, Giovanni Borri for his fifty years in business and Renato Angi for the unrivalled quality of his “made in Italy” product. However, alongside those Mipel Today 1.indd 3 who are celebrating a career there are also those who are on the launch pad trying to build one. These are the young talents of COOL HUNTER, the new recruits of design who here will find a privileged showcase to present their creations to the international public. The most worthy will receive an important prize: the possibility to exhibit their works at the next MIPEL in a personal stand, at no cost. In conclusion, MIPEL is such a well-constructed fair that its potential cannot be condensed in a few lines. The best thing to do is come and visit it. MIPEL TODAY Mipel 106, major changes and lots of news È un MIPEL inatteso quello che state per visitare. It e Panorama. As in the past, the 106th MIPEL is located in halls 8 and 12 of Fiera Milano. As customary, there are four designated areas to welcome the best of leather goods and accessories productions on the Italian and international scene. PANORAMA (hall 12) This is the area with the biggest international atmosphere, dedicated to collections and trends coming from every part of the world. Indeed, it is here that the Japan Booth Japanese group is located. This is the perfect section for those who want to express their creativity without structural constraints. Wide stands, of at least 70 square metres, with total freedom of layout, where the free spirit of those who create transforms into bags and accessories that set the trends. DeSIGN STUDIOS (hall 12) This area is for innovations, designers who dare and where the password is “experimentation” and looking to the future. This improved section is found at the entrance of the fair to welcome visitors with lots of fresh news. PUNTO.IT (hall 8) This is the MIPEL area that reflects the finest productions of leather goods, guaranteed Made in Italy. A trip into luxury and quality, blended together to create unique collections. Furthermore, from this event, the productions on display in this section will be able to certify quality thanks to special labelling which guarantees the production chain. 17.30: è lora dellaperitivo! The year 2014 saw the opening of new retail outlets by some of the biggest names of our national leather goods traditions, ambassadors of a “Made in Italy” that is becoming increasingly successful on overseas markets, without forgetting the eternal city of Rome and the business hub of Milan. Bric’s, leading brand of luggage and bags, opens in Los Angeles, Milan Malpensa and Dubai. In Los Angeles, Beverly Hills to be more precise, the location destined to strengthen the presence of the brand in the United States is the Beverly Hills Centre. In Italy, Bric’s opens at Malpensa Airport, in the dedicated check-in area for flights to the Far East. A space developed along straightforward lines but of great visual impact. Finally, there was the very recent opening of the latest retail outlet in Dubai in the prestigious and very busy Dubai Festival City Mall. CAPOVERSO REACHES KOREA CROMIA SI AFFACCIA ALLA CITTà ETERNA On the corner of Via Frattina, the store spreads over an area of 60 square metres, with elegant and well-planned decor that enhances bags and accessories in sophisticated styles, materials and details, the result of design research that combines quality and fashion trends. Rome is the last phase in the retail development project of La.ipe Spa, historic Marche region company of Italian leather goods. Following openings in Milan and Palermo and in the first six months of 2014 in Venice and Bari, the company now focuses on Far East for a 2015 at the conquest of new markets. CROMIA LOOKS TO THE ETERNAL CITY Cromia’s new boutique is in Piazza di Spagna in Rome, glamorous hub of the capital, where millions of tourists, each year, arrive from all parts of the world for a photo of the unique steps. Capoversa, brand produced for La Pelletteria l’Europea by Alba Adriatica, is now retailed in a single brand store in the heart of Seoul. For years, thanks to a careful job of relations and a policy aimed at MIPEL TODAY BRIC’S, FROM AMERICA TO DUBAI AND MILAN increasing exports, the Capoversa collections, mix of craftsmanship and Made in Italy elegance, have made a fine show in the best retail stores of the Korean capital and the 2014 opening of a single brand store is merely the confirmation of predicted success. Furthermore, the excellent results obtained until now, have prompted the company’s contact in South Korea to initiate proceedings for the opening of a second single brand store to be opened in October. 6 Mipel Today 1.indd 6 26/08/14 12.12 The Spring-Summer season according to Ricci In the spirit of art MIPEL TODAY Here we are punctually on time for our appointment with Roberto Ricci and his legendary “Trend Book”, which was created in collaboration with Aimpes (the Italian Manufacturing and Leather Substitutes Association). According to the words of this creative genius: “Research helps to increase knowledge, going beyond existing conditions, and is characterized by sensations, perceptions, stimuli, and observations specifically created to propose a probable, sincere, and acceptable dream”. The theme for the coming Spring-Summer 2015 season is art which, as is well known, must be interpreted, with an understanding that varies according to the individual; it’s not a conceptual kind of art, but is immediate and direct. It begins with a tribute to Mondrian, who skillfully knew how to combine lines with colors, and patterns with plasticity; and continues with the artist Piet Paris and his “coquette” vision in the Eighties, arriving at modern ethnic art with its hyperrealistic visions. Fashion is next in line with celebrities and personae chosen by Ricci as the starring protagonists, or rather, from the ballerina which freely draws upon Josephine Baker or the Ms. Olympia athlete for its inspiration, to the “invisible” woman of the big cities; from the bohemian-style gypsy, to the street artists and western hippie inspirations. Among the colors that stand out in a disorderly array are included: yellow, white, rock grey and taupe, azalea reds, bright blue, greens, orange, violet, turquoise, rust, dark brown, stone, and acid green. And the shapes of the bag? City bags are a big favorite, along with bucket bags, mini clutches, geometric shapes with cutout handles, large bags but with a limited number of compartments, and big tote bags. They are mostly hand-carried or worn on the shoulder, without large shoulder straps. Among the materials, kidskin and napa, pony and patent leather, reptile or patent leather, leathers that are also waxed, napa calfskin, and pony crust leather, all stand out. In Ricci’s opinion, what is the best way to conclude the summer on a high note? Eighties-style yellow proposed in combination with contrasting colors or with pastels; graphic white and black; braiding; little flowers dotted here and there; transparent leather without lacquering, and every technique that includes elements of handcrafting. Now we leave the final word to the images! For summer 2015, Piero Guidi changes the look of the famous Lineabold collection. The keyword is “basic”, essential, like the current trend. The famous details of this iconic collection like the metal plaque and toecap remain but are revamped. Wide scope is given to colour in these bags of clean lines, with classic black embellished with gold metal details, highly elegant, as well as red, blue and champagne dared only on the fastening flaps. There is also a range inspired by the colours of 80’s pop with bright shades of cobalt blue, hibiscus, geranium pink and mandarin. A range of bags designed especially for the elegant woman, attentive to details. Leathers are luxurious and the care taken with the finish in the production phase is considered an essential passage. The result is a bag of clean lines, with no frills, functional but at the same time that stands out for its charm and originality. RENATO ANGI One of Mipel’s historic brands, for next spring-summer it presents a collection that has clean, simple lines but no lack of creativity and originality. Leathers are natural and exclusive like soft calfskin or stiffer crocodile, but alongside traditions there is also room for experimentation in models created with natural leathers in vintage look obtained with special washing and spinning cycles. There are also 3D effects that create ribbing, folds and pleats. Colours too range from neutral pastels to bright, dazzling shades of yellow, green, pink and purple. Exotic adventures inspire the summer collection on display. Elegant, bright bags for relaxing on distant shores, from Bali to Hawaii. Colours, materials and workmanship get free rein on clean, essential lines and create lively motifs of unique effects. Colours are intense and sunny, ranging from orchid to orange, coral to deep blue as well as nude and neutral tones. Models are lifted with ever-trendy laser cuts and spectacular flowers applied with 3D effect on clutch bags whilst animal prints feature too. Italian designer Gianni Segatta began business in the Seventies. He studied in Milan and travelled extensively around Europe. He founded his brand in 1974 and began the production that he now presents in his Venice atelier. In addition to his namesake range, very famous today, he also designs for the biggest names in world leather goods manufacture.
