Class of June 2010 St. Cyril of Jerusalem School Christ Foretold In Genesis, Melchizedek is described as a king who is also a priest. As this story is usually interpreted, Melchizedek’s action of bringing out bread and wine and blessing it with praise to the Creator is a prophetic action. Seen as a prefigurement of the action of Jesus, he foretells to Abram the One who is to come, the Messiah. The psalm echoes this theme in the time of David the King. King David praises and thanks God. He proclaims the preexistence of the Christ, who is given princely power from “the day of your birth, in holy splendor” (Psalm 110:3). God has promised this to David and his descendants forever and God will never go back on this promise. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.
