The Glens of Antrim excel as one of the most
beautiful natural areas of Ireland.
The breathtaking scenery, the walks, fishing,
birdwatching and the welcome of a friendly people
mark this out as a premier European destination for
the discerning visitor.
Heart of the Glens
In an age of uncertainty and change it is refreshing to visit a place like
the Antrim Glens, where the pace of life is leisurely; the people are
welcoming, the air is fresh and the countryside is beautiful.
This is a peaceful landscape - one to delight the walker, the cyclist,
the fisherman, and the lover of nature. Time stands still among these
green hills and valleys.
The sea of Moyle laps on the rocky shore; the coast of Scotland a
mere fourteen miles distant, can be plainly seen on a clear day. Hugging
the shore, travelling over towering headlands, weaving under bridges and
arches, winding past bays, sandy beaches and strange rock formations,
the Antrim Coast Road skirts them all and drops in on the distinctive
pastel-painted villages at their feet. The Antrim Coast Road has been
ranked number five in the world and number one in Europe for its
spectacular views.
The surrounding hills and glens are a patchwork of hill farms, small
fields, hedgerows and traditional stone walls. Fast flowing streams and
winding rivers run to meet the sea.
The pace of life is what you make it in this unique and beautiful
corner of Ireland.
Das Herz der Glens
In einer Zeit der Ungewissheit und
Wandel ist es erfrischend einen Ort wie
die Antrim Glens, wo alles ein bisschen
langsamer läuft, zu besuchen. Die
Menschen sind gastfreundlich, die Luft
frisch und die Landschaft wunderschön.
Die Landschaft hier ist friedvoll – die
Wanderer, Fahrradfahrer, Angler und
Naturfreude erfreuen sich daran. In diesen

still zu stehen.
Das Meer von Moyle rauscht am
steinigen Ufer. An klaren Tagen kann man
die Küste von Schottland, nur vierzehn
Meilen entfernt, deutlich sehen. Die Ufer
umarmend, kletternd über hohe
Landspitzen, schlängelnd unter Brücken
und Bögen, an Buchten, Sandstränden
und interessanten Felsformationen vorbei
windend, streift die Antrim Coast Road
dies alles und schaut bei den
unverkennbaren pastellfarbenen Dörfern
vorbei. Die Antrim Coast Road wurde,
aufgrund der spektakulären Aussichten,
als Nummer 5 in der Welt und als
Nummer 1 in Europa platziert.
Die umliegenden Berge und Täler sind
ein Patchwork aus Bergbauernhöfen,
kleinen Feldern, Hecken und traditionellen
Steinmauern. Wildbäche und windende
Flüsse fließen bis sie ins Meer münden.
Man kann die Geschwindigkeit des
Lebens in dieser einzigartigen und
wunderschönen Ecke Irlands selbst
bestimmen.
Au cœur des Glen
Dans une époque de grands changements
et d’incertitude, il est agréable de venir
se reposer parmi les Glen d’Antrim ; le
rythme de vie d’ici reste assez calme; les
gens sont toujours accueillants; l’air frais
et sain, la campagne très belle.
Voici un paysage tranquille qui
charmera le randonneur, le cycliste, le
pêcheur et l’amoureux de la nature. Le
temps s’arrête au milieu de ces collines et
de ces vallées vertes.
La mer de Moyle clapote contre le
littoral rocheux, et par temps clair on
discerne nettement la côte d’Écosse qui
se trouve à une courte distance de
quatorze miles (22.5 km). La Route
Littorale d’Antrim suit le rivage, grimpe
des promontoires imposants, serpente
sous les ponts et arches, fait des
méandres autour des anses aux plages
de sable parsemées de formations
rocheuses insolites. Elle fait des escales à
des villages peints en tons pastel qui
attendent en bas.
La Route Littorale d’Antrim a été classé
cinquième dans le monde et meilleure en
Europe pour ses panoramas
spectaculaires.
Les collines et les Glen qui l’entourent
forment un patchwork de fermes, de
hauts pâturages, de petits champs
encadrés par des haies et de murs de
pierre traditionnels.
À chacun de choisir son rythme de vie
dans ce beau et singulier coin d’Irlande.
Nel cuore dei ‘Glens of Antrim’
In questi tempi incerti, affetti da
cambiamenti sociali e culturali radicali, è
un vero piacere visitare un luogo come i
Glens of Antrim. Sono nove le vallate,
ognuna con un fascino unico.
Qui la vita scorre ad un passo lento - le
gente è ospitale, l’aria è pura e il
paesaggio è mozzafiato. Questa zona
tranquilla è un vero paradiso per gli
amanti della vita all’aria aperta; a piedi,
sulla bicicletta, in barca – sono soltanto
alcuni modi per godersi questa stupenda
natura incontaminata. Il tempo si è
fermato in queste valle.
I Glens si affacciano sul Mare del Nord,
nel tratto di Moyle. La Scozia è visibile
all’orizzonte e dista soltanto una ventina
di chilometri. La strada costiera segue i
promontori rocciosi a strapiombo sul
mare, si inchina sotto i ponti e gli archi
naturali, prosegue sinuosamente ai bordi
delle baie e lungo le spiaggie sabbiose,
fiancheggiando le formazioni di roccia
scolpite dal mare e dal vento.
I visitatori incontrano deliziosi villaggi con
le loro case variopinte in colori pastelli.
Grazie al panorama stupendo, la Strada
Costiera di Antrim è stata classificata al
quinto posto nel mondo e il primo in
assoluto in Europa per bellezza.
La campagna si estende fino al mare; il
verde dell’Irlanda è interrotto da un
miscuglio originale di fattorie, campi,
siepi e le mura di pietre secche,
tipicamente irlandesi.
I fiumi e i ruscelli scroscianti trasportano
l’acqua dalle colline verso il mare.

El corazón de las Cañadas
En una época de incertidumbre y cambio
es refrescante visitar un lugar como las
Cañadas de Antrim, donde el ritmo de la
vida es relajado, la gente es acogedora,
el aire es fresco y el paisaje es hermoso.
Este es un paisaje apacible - uno para
deleitar al caminante, el ciclista, el
pescador, y el amante de la naturaleza. El
tiempo se detiene entre estas verdes
colinas y valles.
El mar de Moyle chapotea en la costa

A fine introduction to Ireland is the Antrim Coast Road from Belfast to the
Glens of Antrim and Glenariff, the Queen of the Glens. This is the largest and
most beautiful of the Nine Glens and was scooped out by ice to form one of
the finest examples of a glacial u-shaped valley, bounded by rugged
precipices 200 metres to 400 metres in height. Glenariff exemplifies the joys
that await the traveller in Northern Ireland. It is a welcoming Glen that holds
hundreds of delights for visitors enjoying its history and stunning scenery.

Il nome in gaelico di questo villaggio
significa ‘al piede del fiume
marrone’. L’acqua del fiume è
marrone perché a monte passa in
mezzo le torbiere.
L’intero villaggio è protetto dal
‘National Trust’. La sua posizione
protetta e il paesaggio scenico l’ha
reso una meta turistica ambita per
molti decenni. Al tempo, in onore di
sua moglie, un Lord fece ricostruire il
villaggio nello stile tradizionale della
Cornavaglia in Inghilterra.
Molti artisti e scrittori famosi sono
stati ispirati dalla pace e le bellezze
della zona. John Masefield, già
l’onorato Poet Laureate, si è recato a
Cushendun con la sua sposa per la
luna di miele.

Cushendall nestles in a dramatic
landscape, at the bottom of
Glenballyeamon and surrounded by
mountains on one side and the Irish Sea
on the other. Cushendall is commonly
known as the ‘Capital of the Glens’ both for
its central location and because it is the social,
business and cultural heart of the glens. It is now
a thriving village but one which has managed to
maintain its distinctive character.
