Padova, Musei Civici agli Eremitani
Mantegna torna a Padova in una mostra senza
precedenti, che racconta i travolgenti anni della
sua formazione in una città capitale assoluta
del rinnovamento del linguaggio figurativo in
senso rinascimentale. Opere inestimabili
realizzate dal maestro per Padova e capolavori
di Donatello, Squarcione, Schiavone, Bellini,
Vivarini, Durer ed altri, giungono in mostra dai
più importanti musei internazionali.
Mantegna and Padua 1445–1460
Padua, Musei Civici agli Eremitani
Mantegna returns in Padua in an
unprecedented exhibition, which represents the
overwhelming years of his formation in a city
that is the absolute capital of the Renaissance
renewal of the symbolic language. Invaluable
works created by the master for the city of
Padua and masterpieces of Donatello,
Squarcione, Schiavone, Bellini, Vivarini, Durer
and others, arrive at the exhibition from the
most important international museums.

After more than sixty
years since the
bombing which
destroyed it, the Ovetari
Chapel, Mantegna’s
masterpiece, went
through extraordinary
restoration work which
can be seen in the
exhibition, while in
Zuckermann Palace
“The Madonna of
Tenderness” excellent
work attributed to the
Master will be shown
for the first time.
Further on, at the
Loggia.and Odeo
Cornaro a documentary
exhibition reveals the
Fifteenth Century
Padua, while thematic
itineraries and special
dishes created for the
occasion to celebrate
the artist.

Verona, Gran Guardia
Un affascinante percorso espositivo che inizia con
la Pala di San Zeno e termina con la Pala Trivulzio, i
massimi capolavori di Mantegna realizzati per la
città di Verona. Nel Palazzo della Gran Guardia, di
fronte all’Arena, la straordinaria ricostruzione di un
contesto artistico e culturale, tra pittura, disegno,
scultura, miniatura, architettura, medaglistica ed
editoria: 228 opere, concesse in prestito da 100
musei e collezioni di tutto il mondo.
Mantegna and the Arts in Verona 1450–1500
Verona, Gran Guardia
In the Gran Guardia Palace, in front of the Arena, a
fascinating expositive path, which starts with the
Pala of San Zeno and ends with the Pala Trivulzio,
Mantegna’s greatest masterpieces created for the
city of Verona, is recreated.
It is an extraordinary recreation of the artistic and
cultural context of the period, through painting,
drawing, sculpture, miniature, architecture,
medallistics and publishing: 228 works, loaned from
100 museums and art collections from all over the
world.

The exhibition ideally
continues in the city
and in the region,
thanks to the
marvellous
archaeological
testimonies which
nourished Mantegna’s
finest art (in particular
the Arena and the
Roman Theatre), and
thanks to a series of
itineraries and tours
aiming at the discovery
of the most interesting
and evocative
testimonies of the
period: museums,
churches and
convents, villas and
monumental works,
many of which are
usually forbidden to
the public.

Nella città dove il Mantegna trascorse il periodo
artistico più decisivo ritornano i capolavori
autografi del maestro e del suo seguito,
eccezionalmente prestati dai più prestigiosi musei
italiani e stranieri. A Palazzo Te un affascinante
percorso di circa ottanta opere racconta la vicenda
di Andrea Mantegna a Mantova sino all’esaurirsi
della grande influenza che la sua arte suscitò nei
pittori della generazione a lui successiva.

Exceptionally loaned by the most prestigious
Italian and foreign museums, the autographic
masterpieces of the master and his followers
return in the city where Mantegna spent the most
crucial artistic period. In ‘Palazzo Te’ a fascinating
path of about eighty works tells the story of Andrea
Mantegna in Mantua up to the exhausting of the
great influence his art provoked among the
painters of the following generation.

Il genio di Andrea Mantegna, uno dei grandi maestri del
Rinascimento italiano, verrà celebrato in occasione del V
centenario della morte, avvenuta nel 1506, con un grande progetto
espositivo articolato in tre mostre che apriranno
contemporaneamente, il 16 settembre 2006, in ognuna delle città
nelle quali la presenza del grande artista e delle sue opere è
documentata: Padova, Verona e Mantova. / Andrea Mantegna’s
genius, one among the greatest masters of the Italian Renaissance,
will be celebrated, on the occasion of the fifth centenary since his
death in 1506, through a great expositive project divided into three
exhibitions which will open at the same time on the 16th of
September, 2006. Each exhibition will be held in the cities in which
the presence of the great artist and of his works is welldocumented, that is Padua, Verona and Mantua.
