PRODUCER: Poggio Antico
FROM: Brunello di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy

A beautifully layered, expressive wine, Poggio Antico’s 2007 Brunello
di Montalcino Riserva caresses the palate with exceptional elegance,
finesse and total class. Sage, rosemary, licorice and tobacco all flesh
out as this radiant Brunello shows off its considerable personality.
Hints of dried rose petals add intrigue on the finish. This is without
question one of the very best 2007 Riservas readers will come
across. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.

2008 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino “Altero”
PRODUCER: Poggio Antico
FROM: Brunello di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy
VARIETY: Sangiovese Grosso
The estate’s 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Altero is a bit more fruitforward and dense than the straight bottling. It, too, appears best
suited for drinking over the near and medium term. There is excellent
brightness and energy in the red fruit flavors, while floral and spice
overtones add an upper register that is undeniably pleasing.
Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.
DRINK: 2013 – 2020

2008 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino
PRODUCER: Poggio Antico
FROM: Brunello di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy
VARIETY: Sangiovese Grosso
Layers of dried cherries, tobacco, sweet herbs and spices wrap
around the palate as Poggio Antico’s 2008 Brunello di Montalcino
opens up in the glass. Bright, saline notes give the wine its length and
persistence, especially on the finish. A gracious, mid-weight wine, the
2008 is best suited to drinking over the next few years. Anticipated
maturity: 2014-2023.
RATING:
DRINK: 2014 – 2023

2010 Poggio Antico IGT Toscana “Madre”
PRODUCER: Poggio Antico
FROM: Brunello di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy
VARIETY: Proprietary Blend
DRINK: 2014 – 2030
The estate’s 2010 Madre, equal parts Sangiovese and Cabernet
Sauvignon, emerges from the glass with scents of pipe tobacco,
cedar, grilled herbs and black cherries. The Sangiovese comes
through most in the aromas and flavors, while the Cabernet seems to
add body and structure. Cabernet notes of cassis and bell pepper
linger on the finish. Overall, this is a very pretty wine from Poggio
Antico, a venerable estate that seems to be on a roll these days.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2030.
RATING:
93 points
2011 Poggio Antico IGT Toscana “Lemartine”
PRODUCER: Poggio Antico
FROM: Brunello di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy
VARIETY: Proprietary Blend
DRINK: 2014 – 2021
Poggio Antico’s 2011 Lemartine is a Sangiovese/Cabernet
Sauvignon/Petit Verdot blend. A striking, beautifully delineated
bouquet leads to layers of dark fruit in this drop-dead gorgeous red.
Expressive aromatics give lift to expressive rose petals, pomegranate
and cinnamon notes. The 2011 needs time to drop some its baby fat.
There is a lot to like in this super-racy, refined wine. The opulent style
is pure 2011. Lemartine is 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021.
