Recentemente mi sono accorto che nel registro eventi di sistema di server Windows 2008 Virtuali e Server Windows 2003 appare il
seguente warning
[vmusr:vmtoolsd] Failed registration of app type 2 (Signals) from plugin unity
Il problema è causato da un baco durante l'installazione / aggiornamento che non riesce a creare il file "tools.conf" oppure lo crea
ma non riesce a scriverci nulla dentro. (quindi un file vuoto).
Sembra che questo file è necessario per configurare la funzione di registrazione dei log ed è un problema noto che non è stato ancora
risolto.
Per correggere il problema, basta creare un file denominato tools.conf e scriverci le seguenti righe dentro:

# Enable tools service logging to vmware.log vmsvc.level = debug vmsvc.handler = vmx
# Enable new "vmusr" service logging to vmware.log vmusr.level = error vmusr.handler = vmx
# Enable "Volume Shadow Copy" service logging to vmware.log vmvss.level = debug vmvss.handler = vmx

Una volta creato il file basterà copiarlo nei seguenti percorsi a seconda del sistema operativo utilizzato:
O.S : Windows Xp, Windows 2003
C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataVMwareVMware Tools
O.S : Windows 2008, Windows 7, Windows Vista
C:ProgramDataVMwareVMware Tools

A questo punto basta riavviare il servizio VmWare Tools per far scomparire l'errore.
