Non si può ridurre il Soul a musica precotta per consumatori sbadati, come spesso avviene al di qua
dell’oceano.
Non si può rimasticare questa forma d’arte di nobili radici come se fosse caramello per imberbi.
Non si può fantasticare in nero quando si è bianchi fin nel midollo.
Si può reinventare, ribaltare, sradicare e far rivivere il Soul nel migliore dei modi possibili.
Come? Mettendo assieme dei talenti di straordinaria inventiva, di qua e di là dell’Atlantico.
Voci, anime, strumenti e cuori uniti per rendere omaggio alla Regina del Soul, Aretha Franklin, senza
nemmeno permettersi di imitarla. E speriamo di esserci riusciti: di Aretha ce n’è e ce ne sarà sempre
una sola.
Ma del Soul, del Jazz, del Rock, della più fine ed eterea Psichedelia assieme c’era forte il bisogno.
C’era l’urgenza di spazzare via i luoghi comuni di Black and White, per ricominciare dal fondo,
dall’essenza stessa, l’anima – certo – di questa musica.
Ne abbiam fatto un cocktail atomico. Un mix di talenti ineguagliato e difficilmente imitabile: Cristina
Zavalloni, la voce più poderosa, micidiale, calda, inesorabile che sia emersa in Italia da parecchi anni
a questa parte; Uri Caine: un geniale creatore di suoni, inventore senza confini, che attraversa il
mondo del jazz come un insaziabile predatore. Di lei i testi, di lui le musiche: insieme gli
arrangiamenti. Certo, sono andati a braccetto in passato per altre vie, ma questa volta sono entrati
nella foresta magica del soul perché Bologna e Filadelfia, le loro “hometown” possono ben specchiarsi
assieme attraverso l’Oceano.
E poi gli altri maestri del ritmo, semplicemente stupefacenti: Dave Gilmore, Fima Ephron, Gene
Lake. I fiati sofisticati di due jazzisti di classe: Ralph Alessi e Chris Speed.
Il tutto è stato inventato, indecentemente proposto e shakerato (non mescolato) da Enzo Capua, che
da giornalista e produttore fra le due sponde dell’Atlantico ha creato un multichilometrico ponte. Non
rimane che ascoltarlo fino in fondo “THE SOUL FACTOR”. Play it loud! Come si diceva un tempo.
Oggi più che mai.

"THE SOUL FACTOR " : An Atomic Cocktail
Soul music cannot be reduced to mere pre-cooked food for distracted consumers, as often happens on
this side of the ocean.
An art form of such noble origin cannot be kneaded the way kids chomp down on caramel.
But you can reinvent, flip, eradicate and revive Soul in the best way possible.
How? By connecting extraordinarily creative talents, on both sides of the Atlantic.
Voices, souls, instruments and hearts - merged to pay tribute to the Queen of Soul , Aretha Franklin with no attempt to imitate the original.
We truly hope to have succeeded : there is and will always be one Aretha only. There was however, a
vital call for Soul, Jazz, Rock, and of the more subtle, ethereal Psychedelic music.
There was the urgent need to cast aside the Black and White clichés and to start from the bottom, from
the very essence: the soul - clearly - of this music.
We’ve turned it into an atomic cocktail. A mix of unparalleled and inimitable talent: Cristina
Zavalloni- the most compelling, venomous, warm and explosive voice that has emerged in Italy in
the past several years, Uri Caine - a brilliant creator of sounds, an inventor without boundaries, who
has spanned the world of jazz as an insatiable predator. The lyrics are hers, the music is his and the
arrangements are by both. In the past, they’ve been known to saunter along together in various
directions, but this time they’ve stepped into Soul’s enchanted forest; making Bologna and
Philadelphia , their respective hometowns, one sole image reflected in the Ocean .
Renowned rhythm masters such as jazz guitarist Dave Gilmore, soulful bassist Fima Ephron and
outstanding, all around drummer Gene Lake, have brought their energy to this creation, along with
two top-class jazz musicians: avant-garde jazz trumpeter and composer Ralph Alessi, and clarinetist
and tenor saxophonist Chris Speed.
Everything has been invented, indecently proposed and vigorously shaken ( not stirred ) by Enzo
Capua who, as journalist and producer, created a multi-mile bridge connecting both sides of the
Atlantic. All that remains is to listen to "THE SOUL FACTOR” and Play it loud! - as we used to say .
