Il refacing è un’arte sopraffina che consiste
nel modificare un’imboccatura, nella forma o
nelle dimensioni, per farla aderire il più
possibile alle richieste del musicista. Per
ulteriori approfondimenti rimando alla lettura
attenta de “Il Manuale Delle Imboccature” (di
Emanuele Raganato Edizioni Eufonia Pisogne, BS, 2008).
Per praticare quest’arte non abbiamo bisogno
di molti strumenti e, spesso, proprio con il
minimo indispensabile, possiamo ottenere
risultati strepitosi.
Ciò che non può mancare sul nostro banco di
lavoro sono:
un mascherino protettivo;
un set di lime per metallo;
fogli di carta abrasiva di grana differente (da
240 a 400);
tutto il resto può essere utile ma non
indispensabile.
Partiamo da un becco al quale è stata fatta
solo la forma e manca quindi dell’apertura (il
piano indicato dalla linea rossa è cioè piatto).

The refacing is a superfine art that consists of
modifying the form or the size of the
mouthpiece in order to satisfy the musician’s
request as much as possible. For further indepth analysis I refer the reader to "Il
Manuale delle Imboccature"

2008).
To practice this art and obtain good results, a
minimum of tools are required. Below, you
can find the list of “must haves” in order to
obtain good results..
What you must have on your worktable is:
a protective mask;
a set of files for filing metal;
sheets of sandpaper of different grain (from
240 to 400);
everything else can be useful but not
essential.
Let’s start with a mouthpiece which has a
form but not an opening (the surface which is
indicated by the red line is flat).
