JEREMY OVENDEN Tenor English tenor Jeremy Ovenden is acknowledged as one of the world’s finest interpreters of Mozart and Händel. His roles include Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Emilio (Il sogno di Scipione ), Soliman (Zaide), Tito (La clemenza di Tito), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Biondello (Mozart's L’oca del Cairo) and Asdrubale (Mozart's Lo sposo deluso), as well as Jupiter (Semele), Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Male Chorus (The Rape of Lucretia) and Egisto in Salieri’s L’Europa riconosciuta. He has collaborated with the world’s leading conductors including Rinaldo Alessandrini, Daniel Barenboim, Harry Bicket, Fabio Biondi, Myung-Whun Chung, Diego Fasolis, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Richard Hickox, René Jacobs, Ton Koopman, Nicholas Kraemer, Marc Minkowski, Riccardo Muti, Trevor Pinnock, Christoph Poppen, Simon Rattle, Christophe Rousset, and Jonathan Webb, and with ‘conductor-less’ orchestras including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Freiburger Barockorchester. Jeremy Ovenden performs at the world’s major opera houses including Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Staatsoper in Berlin, Oper Frankfurt, Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie de Bruxelles, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Regio di Torino and Glyndebourne Festival, in productions by Peter Sellars, Robert Carsen, David McVicar, David Alden, Pierre Audi, Ettore Scola, Pierre Luigi Pizzi, Luca Ronconi and Daniele Abbado among others. He is invited regularly by festivals including Aix-en-Provence, Ambronay, Festival Sacré de Nice, Salzburg Festival and the BBC Proms. He can be heard in leading concert halls such as the Musikverein, the Barbican Centre, the Royal Festival Hall, the Concertgebouw, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and St David’s Hall. Recent engagements have included Tamerlano (Bajazet) at Monnaie in Bruxelles, Lodoiska in Ingolstadt with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Così fan tutte at the Staatsoper in Berlin, La finta giardiniera at the Monnaie de Bruxelles, La Passione by Salieri, Schubert’s Mass, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Haendel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Mass in C minor KV. 427 with the Orchestra Nazionale della Rai di Torino, L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Haendel’s Messiah at the Accademia Nazionali di Santa Cecilia in Rome and Die Schöpfung with the Orchestra della Rai di Torino, Die Schoepfung with the London Symphony Orchestra, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with the Gewandhaus Orchester in Leipzig, as well as L’incoronazione di Poppea at Opéra National de Paris. Jeremy Ovenden’s concert performances have included J. S. Bach’s Johannes-Passion, Matthäus-Passion, Magnificat, Weinachts-Oratorium and the B Minor Mass; Händel’s Acis and Galatea, Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno, Messiah, Samson, Saul, Theodora and Judas Maccabeus; Mozart's Krönungmesse and Requiem; Holzbauer's Günter Von Schwarzburg; Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Die Jahreszeiten and Die Schöpfung; Schubert’s Lazarus, Die Schöne Müllerin and Winterreise and Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Rossini’s La riconoscenza and Petite Messe Solennelle; Britten’s Serenade plus works by Jommelli and Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti. His discography includes several sacred works by J. S. Bach’s; Biber’s Missa Salisburgensis; Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day by Purcell and Saul by Händel; Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten and Die Schöpfung; Mozart’s Il sogno di Scipione, Betulia Liberata, La finta semplice, L’oca del Cairo and Lo sposo deluso, and Book VIII of Monteverdi’s Madrigals. Jeremy Ovenden studied with Norman Bailey and Neil Mackie at the Royal College of Music and Drama in London. He won an Ian Fleming Trust Award, was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Competition and went on to further study with Nicolai Gedda.
