There are many features that distinguish the Matthean story of the Passion from the other Gospels. Regarding the
narrated content, the story of Judas' suicide is exclusively Matthean, like the Roman prefect washing his hands, or
some elements of comparison between Jesus and Barabbas. All these aspects play a very important role and should
be examined closely in order to understand the theology of the first Gospel. But if we were to choose one “feature” of
Matthew, we should say that his Passion gives the impression of being in front of a large painting, or an altarpiece.
Unlike the Passions of the other Gospels, the reader is even more impressed by the abundance of images, and, if
possible, by the intensity of its dramatic power.
The Passion according to Matthew in the newest version from the ancient texts, accompanied by
introduction and notes.
Giulio Michelini, frate minore, insegna Nuovo Testamento all'Istituto Teologico di Assisi. Ha studiato alla Facoltà di
Lingue dell'Università di Perugia (dove ha lavorato sulla traduzione verso il gotico del Vangelo secondo Matteo), alla
Pontificia Università Gregoriana, dove ha conseguito il dottorato in Teologia biblica, e al Bat Kol Institute di
Gerusalemme. È autore di diversi articoli scientifici e - insieme ai coniugi Gillini e Zattoni - di tre commenti biblici
destinati alle coppie, tutti pubblicati dalle Edizioni San Paolo: La lotta tra il demone e l'angelo (2007); Rut. La straniera
coraggiosa (2009, con un contributo di Massimo Cacciari) e Il libro dei Giudici (2012). Sempre per le Edizioni San
Paolo ha pubblicato Matteo. Introduzione, traduzione e commento (2013) nella collana "Nuova versione della Bibbia
dai testi antichi".
