Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of the main steps of the history of cinema.
In particular, s/he will be aware of the development of technological and production devices, and of expressive forms. The student will also be
able to recognise scenes from the most important movies filmed by directors and belongin to currents and genres among the most
representatives of the history of cinema. The student will also be aware of the historical forms of cinema technique and language.

Syllabus
The course covers the main steps of the history of cinema. Particular attention will be paid to the development of technological and production
devices, and of expressive forms. Period covered will range from first cinema of attraction to the beginning of narrative cinema; from avant
garde cinéma to Hollywood studio and star system; from Neorealismo to Nouvelle Vague and modern cinema to the renewing of popular genres
in contemporary cinema.
