After almost 40 years from the development of the very
first DreamMaker prototype, thanks to a skillful
craftsman and to the experience of Mr. Hutchinson, we
have been able not only to recreate that Legend, but
even to improve the exceptional features of the
DreamMaker by using technology and materials not
yet available at the time of the first developing.
DreamMaker Rods, available in 2 sizes and 3 versions,
are unique partners for your fishing. Every Rod has
slight differences with its "sisters" because each Rod is
hand built using one single mould, this choice of ours
from one side doesn't allow massive production but on
the other hand is an absolute warrantee of a high
quality hand made construction as there is one Rod
Builder Master in charge of the whole production.
Time has a very particular meaning here at Rod
Hutchinson - hurry has no space in our vocabulary. We
prefer instead to take care in the construction of each
single Rod as if we were building it for a friend and
deliver it as if we would with a jewel.

Spigot System for DreamMaker, project #21
The whole process starts with the
choice and predisposition of the
Carbon fabric prepreg with thermoset
epoxy resin matrix. We are among the
few that use several types of carbon
fabric to build one blank and the choice
of different materials mixed together
confers to the Rod's exceptional
features of resistance and action. We
are actually using carbon fabric
developed for the aerospace industry
and in F1 races.
Every blank is now “rolled” using one
single steel mould, in this way the time
of production is very slow but we can
control the quality and the uniformity
of the Rods. Also we wanted only the
Rod Builder Master involved in the
critical moment of the birth of a new
piece. Once that the blank is ready it is
placed for two hours in a special oven
for a process called “polymerization”
where the epoxy resin because of the
heat changes its molecular structure
and makes the whole structure hard
and solid.
The next phase is very delicate - the
Master prepares and installs the
spigot. We decided to build the Rod
like this for several reasons:
- The very first DreamMaker and the
DreamMaker that Mr. Hutchinson
presently uses were built with the
same technology
- It's a very complex building process
that only a fine craftsman can perform
- When building Rods with the simple
connection system, to allow the
second segment to hold the first, the
rod builder needs to decrease the
thickness of the first part of the second
segment and in order to balance this,
at the same time he will improve the
thickness of the last part of the second
segment The Rods built in this way
have on this critical point of their
structure a non homogeneous
thickness that affects the action of the
Rod
- Rods built with the spigot system are
actually made of three independent
sections where the thickness of the
Rod is constant and this connection
section confers to the Rod a perfectly
homogeneous behaviour both during
the strike, the fight and the throw. The
problem is that the engineering of the
spigot (which has conic lateral section)
and the positioning are extremely
complex operations that slow down
the whole production
At this point in a controlled
atmosphere room to prevent dust and
other impurities to stick on the rods,
the blanks are varnished and then left
to dry out for approximately 24 hours.
Tutto inizia con la scelta e la
preparazione del tessuto in carbonio,
siamo tra i pochi a utilizzare mescole di
pelli
di
carbonio
diverse
e
preimpregnate in resina epossidica.
Come la scelta delle mescole per i
pneumatici, cosi la scelta delle diverse
pelli di carbonio conferirà alla Canna
caratteristiche uniche al mondo.
Le “mescole” che utilizziamo noi in
particolare sono le stesse impiegate
nella produzione aerospaziale ed
introdotte
all’uso
civile
dalle
competizioni automobilistiche.
Ogni fusto viene poi prodotto
utilizzando il medesimo stampo in
acciaio, questa scelta da un lato
compromette la capacità di produrre in
grandi quantità ma rende ogni pezzo
strutturalmente identico a tutto il resto
della produzione, una volta creato il
fusto avviene la fase di cottura e
polimerizzazione in autoclave per circa
2 ore a 130°C. A seguire l'artigiano
rettifica e pulisce il blank dalle impurità
e pelature di carbonio.
A questo punto l’artigiano procede
all'installazione dello spigot, una
tecnologia costruttiva estremamente
complessa che abbiamo deciso di
utilizzare per i seguenti motivi:
- Le leggendarie DreamMaker degli
albori e le stesse che usa Rod
Hutchinson nelle sue sessioni di pesca
anche ai giorni nostri, erano costruite
con questa tecnologia.
- È un metodo costruttivo complesso
da ideare e realizzare e rappresenta
l'apice della maestria di un Rod Builder
- Le canne costruite ad innesto
semplice presentano in questo punto
cruciale della loro lunghezza una
disomogeneità di spessore e quindi di
azione parabolica. Infatti, in quel tipo di
innesto il costruttore è obbligato a
diminuire lo spessore del carbonio
nella parte iniziale del segmento
superiore ed aumentare lo spessore
del finale del segmento inferiore. Lo
spigot invece, di forma conica si
presenta come un ponte ideale tra le
due sezioni che vengono unite senza
variazione degli spessori di carbonio.
- Lo spigot richiede quasi 8 ore di
lavorazione per essere costruito e
posizionato.
Di fatto la Canna è cosi composta di 3
strutture indipendenti poiché lo spigot
di fatto lavora come una terza sezione di
raccordo ciò contribuisce a conferire
una straordinaria omogeneità e fluidità
di azione non comparabile alle Canne
con struttura ad innesto semplice,
appare evidente in azione di
combattimento come la canna si
comporti come un'unica lunga asta in
carbonio.
THE EXTRAORDINARY
LEGEND OF
THE DREAMMAKER RODS

Next phase is also very important, the research of the
"spine" of the blank that is the natural blending verse of
the top of the Rod. This line that runs along the blanks is
given at the moment of the rolling of the blank and
depends on where the two strips oh the last skin of
carbon fabric meet. Finding the "spine" is mandatory
because only the Rods with the line of rings along the
"spine" have a correct behaviour during the throw. Rods
"not spined" produce (during the back flip just after the
throw) several types of lateral or circular oscillations that
obstruct and slow down the line during the throw.
"Spined" Rods after the throw, immediately gain their
natural line.
The Rod Builder now proceeds with the installation of
the FUJI Sic rings along the line of the spine, this process
is made by hand and with the only help of an instrument
called "tensiometer" that allows the Rod Builder to put
the same strength on each round of thread. Our Rods
have a double layer of FUJI thread and three coats of
FUJI paint.
At this point the Rod Builder signs by hand each Rod
with its serial number and the alignment notch and the
Rod is finalized with a layer of epoxy resin that will
prevent the rods from usury.
After 24 hours the Rod is now ready to be waxed and
packed.
Questa scelta tecnica se da un lato è costosa e
complessa, dall'altro apporta considerevoli benefici in
lancio, performance in combattimento, divertimento e
sensibilità.
Si passa poi al montaggio della canna, ovvero
all'applicazione dei supporti in neoprene, infine la
delicatissima fase dell'anellatura lungo la linea di spina.
Questo processo viene effettuato a mano con il controllo
costante di un tensiometro per poter applicare ad ogni
giro di filo la medesima tensione di quello precedente.
Osservando attentamente una delle nostre Canne potrete
notare come ogni legatura sia leggermente diversa dalle
altre, un'altra delle caratteristiche che dimostrano che
quello che avete in mano è un pezzo artigianale fatto a
mano con tecniche di produzione opposte alle logiche
industriali.
Al contrario di molte delle canne in commercio, le nostre
montature degli anelli hanno un doppio strato di filo FUJI
sic.
A questo punto, in camera ad atmosfera controllata per
evitare che la polvere si annidi sul fusto grezzo, avviene
la verniciatura dello stesso che a seguire viene lasciato
asciugare almeno 24 ore.
A seguire avviene un'altra fase fondamentale, la ricerca della
spina del fusto, ovvero la ricerca della piega naturale del
cimino, cioè del verso naturale in cui la canna si piega,
conferito alla stessa dal processo di avvolgimento.
Rintracciare la linea di spina è fondamentale perché
soltanto le canne anellate in spina hanno la naturale
propensione a rientrare immediatamente dopo la frustata
del lancio nella loro linea ideale. Le Canne non spinate
infatti producono in fase di ritorno delle oscillazioni laterali
o addirittura circolari che oltre ad essere pericolose per
l'integrità strutturale della canna, limitano di svariati metri la
fuoriuscita libera del filo in fase di lancio. Inoltre questa
scelta elimina il virtuale unico punto debole della canna e
conferisce al fusto una ottimale omogeneità di risposta alle
forze applicate.
ATTENTION: slight imperfections on the signatures and in
other aesthetic details of the Rod, are the peculiarity of the
hand building process, they shall not be considered as faults
or defects though as proof of a high value handcraft.
Infine l'artigiano scrive a mano il numero seriale di ogni
canna e la tacca di allineamento, poi vengono stesi una
resina epossidica su tutta la canna ed un triplo strato di
vernice FUJI sulle parti delicate dell'anellatura per
prevenire i segni del tempo.
La canna ora viene lasciata ad asciugare per ulteriori 24
ore, infine viene lucidata e confezionata.
ATTENZIONE: lievi imperfezioni estetiche nelle scritte, nelle
legature e in altri particolari estetici della Canna da Lei acquistata,
sono da considerarsi prova dell’altissima artigianalità del processo
di costruzione della stessa e non come difetti di produzione.

decided to concentrate his efforts on a matter very often left aside
in the business: the sale and after sale service.
We believe that if a high level product is been provided with lowquality service, it looses completely its value added. For this reason
we created a quick and impeccable service, based on two
platforms: our web site and an integrated software. Thanks to this
system customer, retails and distributor can in every moment have
at their eyesight our updated available stock and this makes
possible the dispatch of the 100% of the items ordered within the
following 24 hours.
When an item is out of stock our web site will inform you exactly
when that item will be again available and the very date of arrival.
This means the end of a lot of common problems in the business as

alphanumeric”?
It means that you have to choose a password and log in which must

di avere una costante visione del materiale realmente disponibile in
stock in quel dato momento e che permette l’evasione dell’ordine,

é il codice di registrazione della camera di commercio. Se non lo
conosci, digita la partita IVA una seconda volta.
- Cosa sono login e password?
Sono le credenziali di accesso che devi inserire per poter accedere
al sito, devono essere di tua invenzione e facili da ricordare.
- Perché se mi sono registrato non riesco ad entrare per ordinare?
Perché devi aspettare che il nostro sistema elabori la tua richiesta di
registrazione, verifichi i tuoi dati e ti mandi via mail la conferma
dell’avvenuta registrazione. Da quel momento puoi entrare ed acquistare.
- Come faccio se non sono sicuro di ordinare?

- Cosa rappresentano i semafori?
Il semaforo indica la disponibilità del magazzino. Se è verde puoi
anche vedere tra parentesi quadra il numero esatto dei pezzi
disponibili in quell’istante; se giallo significa che la disponibilità è
ridotta e che se vuoi acquistare ti conviene accelerare l’operazione
onde evitare che un altro utente piazzi l’ordine prima di te; se è rosso
significa che non è disponibile a magazzino, ma se il sistema ti da la
possibilità di inserire comunque la quantità puoi comunque ordinare
2 o 3 pezzi a seconda di quello che ti indicherà poi il computer.
- Che cosa significa quantità in ordine e data prevista di arrivo?
Sono delle informazioni utilissime che servono per sapere in ogni
istante quali quantità stiamo producendo e quando entreranno
disponibili nei nostri magazzini. È un dato indicativo che serve
all’utente per sapere quando sarà nuovamente disponibile un
determinato prodotto se finito, o comunque quando saranno
disponibili quantità maggiori.
- Che cosa significa tracciabilità della spedizione?
Nel momento in cui parte l’ordine, il sistema genera
automaticamente una mail di conferma invio, contenente anche il
“tracking number” che permette la tracciabilità del pacco. Entrando
nel sito www.drenfish.com con le proprie credenziali, si potrà
visualizzare in qualsiasi momento lo stato della spedizione.
