models.

Indicators of material development, of education and culture, of social capital, of
vocational and social integration, of deviance and crime.
Databases for cross-national analyses. Various sources of international indicators. In
particular, World Bank databases. Exercises.

Approach, Abingdon, Ox. and New York, 2010.
Two journal articles, chosen by the student among those published by the most
important journals of the socio-economic sector, and following a quantitative
approach.
Journal articles can be found in the digital library of La Sapienza
(http://bids.citicord.uniroma1.it/periodici.aspx). In order to reach the site and
download the papers, use any computer connected to the campus network. Otherwise,
use the programme BIXY, the proxy of the BIDS (Biblioteca Digitale Sapienza),
which can be downloaded from the BIDS site.

----Memo for exams:
For those who have followed all the course lectures:
Presentation of an original paper by each student on a theme chosen by him/her.
Each paper should contain at least:
An Introduction to the theme, including current literature, and comments on the latter.
Extraction of variables from the World Bank database.
Use of the said variables by means of a spreadsheet.
Data tables construction.
Some line charts with time series data.
T Student statistics.
Correlations regarding the said variables.
Some scatter charts.
Regressions.
Conclusions.
References.
Exams venue: University Campus; Tumminelli Building, first floor, former GIRS. More
information at the Prof. Solivetti’s site, within the Dipartimento di Scienze Sociali ed Economiche
(Dept. of Social and Economic Sciences). Exams will start (DV) the first day of the appeal and will
go on according to the order of enrollment in the exam. Students who enrolled in the exam and later
resolve to postpone the exam must cancel their enrollment. Not doing so will be regarded as a
serious misconduct, since it affects the organization of the exams.
