Il comitato invita per questa occasione non solo i membri
anche altre persone che volessero trascorrere una serata con
mangiare fresco e familiare e con buona musica e allegria. Il

Questo è il menu: antipasto di pesce; cannelloni; insalata
mista; Roast-beef con contorni; dolce e caffè; durante la
serata: finocchi, mandarini, castagne, panettone, panino con
porchetta; due bottiglie di vino e una bottiglia di spumante
italiano per ogni tavolo. Il prezzo è di $80.00 a persona.
L’aspetto musicale è a cura di “Salvatore” (Montreal).

Eccoci ancora all'inizio di un nuovo anno, all'inizio di
un nuovo avvento e ne ringraziamo il Signore che ci
dona di essere vivi anche se con acciacchi. Intorno a
noi le luci delle strade già ci circondano, i negozi sono
pieni di addobbi che invitano ad entrare e la televisione
ci pubblicizza un felice e gustoso Natale.
La liturgia sembra che arrivi in ritardo rispetto al
mondo che attende il Natale… In realtà non è così;
primo perché già le ultime settimane del tempo
liturgico, culminate con la festa di Cristo Re, sono
state nel segno dell'attesa della venuta di Cristo; e poi
perché l'Avvento, che inizia oggi, ci fa capire che il
mondo non sta attendendo un bel niente, se non pance
piene e cuori vuoti, luci intermittenti che passeranno
ancora una volta allo staccare delle spine con il nuovo
anno.
Non riduciamo il Natale alla bella festa, ricca di solite
emozioni, che poi passa, come al solito... con addosso
soltanto la stanchezza (e ci saremo tolti anche questo
pensiero!)
Cogliamo invece l'occasione dell'Avvento, tempo
favorevole per la nostra conversione, per rinnovare lo
sguardo della speranza; per riconoscere che Gesù
Cristo entra veramente nel nostro tempo, gli dà un
senso profondo; inonda lo spazio d'amore, regalando
pure le stelle alle stalle… il 25 dicembre non si ridurrà
a pura, nostalgica commemorazione di un avvenimento
passato. Ma sarà un altro anticipo della sua venuta
definitiva.
Per la terza domenica consecutiva i brani delle letture
ci portano a riflettere sul “dopo”, sulla fine del mondo,
su quello che verrà alla fine dei tempi.
Ma quella di oggi non è una giornata conclusiva,
finale, come poteva essere domenica scorsa, ma l'inizio
di una nuova speranza, un “avvento”. Sapere dove si
andrà a finire per percorrere la via giusta.
Non si tratta di aspettare secoli, millenni o milioni di
anni: nel momento in cui usciamo dal tempo (e la
chiamiamo morte…) saremo fuori dal tempo stesso e
quindi immediatamente proiettati al cospetto della
“fine dei tempi”, con tutti i segni che il Vangelo di
oggi ci preannuncia.
Oggi siamo chiamati a chiederci: quanto siamo lontani
da Betlemme? Ovvero: cosa attendiamo in questo
momento?
C'è infatti la possibilità di non attendere niente e
nessuno, di sopravvivere invece che di vivere. E di
sopravvivere al Natale invece che di viverlo.
Con Lui o senza di Lui non è la stessa cosa. Cambia
tutto.
Gesù riprende la famosa immagine della visione di
Daniele, indicandoci non la fine dell'uomo e del
mondo ma il loro fine: incontrare il Figlio dell'uomo
che viene.
Sì, “Dio viene”. Questa espressione così sintetica
contiene una forza di suggestione sempre nuova. In
qualunque momento, “Dio viene”. Se siamo
affaccendati alle cose della terra - agli affanni della
vita - non ci accorgeremo mai che egli viene e
moriremo di paura ogni volta che ci vediamo tremare o
mancare la terra sotto i piedi. Se invece alziamo e a
leviamo il capo, allora ciò che sembrava solo angoscia
e dolore, si apre allo stupore e alla gioia. Risollevatevi:
il verbo che indica l’ “alzarsi” può essere anche
tradotto metaforicamente con “fatevi animo”. Lo
stesso verbo è usato al capitolo 11 quando si descrive
la donna che da diciotto anni era curva e non poteva
alzarsi in nessun modo. L'incontro con Gesù, il
liberatore, le farà sperimentare non tanto la guarigione
fisica ma soprattutto la liberazione interiore (cfr. Lc
11,10-13).
Chi vigila, animato dalla preghiera, ha già il capo alto
ed è pronto ad incontrare il Signore Gesù, non come un
giudice ma come un fratello.

Con questa domenica inizia il periodo di preparazione alle
celebrazioni natalizie. Oltre gli abbellimenti di luci, alberi
natalizi, presepi, ci prepareremo spiritualmente alla festa del
Natale con la celebrazione della Festa dell’immacolata a cui
siamo invitati a partecipare anche per far sentire la nostra
preghiera a quattro persone che faranno la professione di
fede cattolica provenienti dalla chiesa Ortodossa; con la
tradizionale Novena di Natale. Per chi lo desidera il 21 e il
22 Dicembre (lunedì e martedì) avremo la possibilità di
accostarci al sacramento della Riconciliazione (confessione)
dalle ore 19:00 alle 20:30.
Quest’anno la nostra « carità » con i poveri è indirizzata
alle Missioni Vincenziane dell’India. A questo scopo la
prossima settimana vi sarà consegnata una busta che
riporterete il giorno di Natale.

declaring their profession of the Catholic faith from the
Orthodox Church with the traditional Christmas Novena.
For those who so wish on December 21st and 22nd (Monday
and Tuesday) there will be the opportunity for us to receive
the sacrament of reconciliation (confession) from 7:00 to
8:30 p.m.
This year our 'charitable donations' for the poor is directed
to the Indian Vincentians missions. Towards this cause you
will be given an envelope next week which you will then
bring back on Christmas day with your generous donation.
