Fonderie Viterbesi produce fusioni meccaniche in molteplici campi di
applicazione che vanno dall’automotive al settore idraulico, dal ferroviario
alle fusioni per macchine utensili.
Ruolo da protagonista svolto dalle fusioni per l’industria del calore con
la produzione di portine, piani stufe, griglie, lastre per caminetti, bracieri,
calotte di aspirazione e ogni tipo di componente ideato e prodotto per
resistere ad alte temperature.
Il know-how acquisito negli anni ci permette di ideare, progettare e
produrre fusioni in ghisa grigia e sferoidale, acciaio, acciaio inossidabile
e alluminio fornendo al cliente un servizio completo dalla progettazione
alla consegna del prodotto. Fonderie Viterbesi dispone di un’officina
meccanica in grado di poter eseguire ogni sorta di lavorazione meccanica
richiesta ed esegue tutti i giorni rigorosi controlli sul materiale per
assicurare il 100% della qualità del prodotto fornito.

Fonderie Viterbesi produces mechanics castings for many fields, from
automotive to hydraulics applications, from railway sector to fusion for

It plays a protagonist role in the heat industry producing scuttles and
tops for stoves, fireplace plates, grills, extraction calottes, wood holders
and many other components designed and produced to sustain high
temperature.
During the years the “know-how” purchasing method permitted us to
plan, design and produce various components in cast iron (grey and
spheroidal), steel iron, stainless steel and aluminium, giving to clients a
full service, from the planning to the delivery of the product.
Fonderie Viterbesi Group owns a mechanic workshop able to carry out

Processo di fusione in terra
Il processo di fabbricazione per fusione in terra permette di realizzare sia produzioni in serie che in pochi esemplari,
con pesi variabili da pochi grammi a decine di tonnellate.
La tecnica fusoria consiste principalmente nel preparare una cavità detta “forma”, che ricopia il negativo del pezzo
da ottenere. In essa viene colata la lega allo stato fuso. Una volta solidificata, la lega viene estratta dalla forma ad
ottenere il greggio di fusione, del tutto simile al pezzo finale a meno dei sovrametalli (le parti da asportare con le
macchine utensili per la realizzazione delle superfici funzionali).
La fusione in terra (o in verde) rientra nelle tecniche di formatura transitorie in cui ogni forma può essere utilizzata per
una sola colata e viene distrutta al momento dell’estrazione del greggio (vedi schema illustrativo).

Sand casting process
The manufacturing process of sand casting allows the production of both a series of products or a singular production
with weights that can vary from a few grams to many tonnes.
The casting technique consists mainly in preparing a cavity called a “mould” which is a copy of the negative of the
piece being made. The alloy is poured in its cast state. Once it has solidified, the alloy is extracted from the mould
in its unrefined state. It is very similar to the final piece but lacks some machining allowances (the parts to be taken
away by the machine tools so that functional surfaces can be made).
The sand casting (or green method) can only be carried out once and is destroyed after the unrefined form is
extracted (see diagram).

Steel capacity
Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon which contains a percentage of carbon that is less than 2% and
even smaller percentages of other elements such as silicon, manganese, sulphur and phosphorus. The
mechanical characteristics of the various types of steel mainly depend on their chemical composition,
but particularly on the quantity of carbon present and on its distribution in the iron and on the added iron
alloys and the thermal treatment it undergoes.

The influence of the binding elements
Silicon: aids the formation of graphitic carbon;
it improves its workability with machine tools;
it lowers the casting temperature rendering the
alloy more fluid.
Manganese: favours the formation of carbon
under the form of cementite; it carries out a desulphurizing action; it induces an increase in the
breaking load and hardness and raises its level
of hardenability.
Phosphorous: influences the temperature at
the end of the solidification and increases the
castability of the alloy; it considerably reduces
the mechanical properties of resistance and
resilience.
Sulphur: interferes with the formation of the
graphite; it induces suction and blow-holes; it
influences the mechanical and technological
properties in a negative way.
Molibdenium: aids the the hardenability;
it reduces the possibility of cracks and
distortions.
Nickel: decreases the sensitivity to thickness; It
improves its resistance to use.
Chrome: improves the mechanical resistance;
it reduces the critical speed of cooling thus
improving its hardenability.
La Ghisa è una lega ferro-carbonio, con un tenore di carbonio tra il 2.11% e il 6.69%. Si ottiene per
trasformazione dell’ematite dagli altoforni.
Durante la solidificazione il carbonio si separa dalla massa metallica e si presenta come grafite dispersa
uniformemente sotto forma di lamelle.

Cast iron capacity
Cast iron is a ferro-carbon alloy with a purport of carbon between 2.11% and 6.69%. It is obtained from
the transformation of haematite in blast furnaces.
During the solidification the carbon separates from the metallic mass and is presented as graphite which
is dispersed uniformly under the form of thin layers.

il calore per irraggiamento - heating by irradiance
La ghisa grigia è un ottimo conduttore termico ed offre elevata resistenza all’usura e alla corrosione.
Per queste sue proprietà è particolarmente indicata per la realizzazione di un sistema di riscaldamento
dalle alte prestazioni su caminetti, stufe e termo camini.
Le lastre in ghisa diffondono il calore per irraggiamento ovvero accumulando calore rilasciandolo
gradualmente nell’ambiente.
Una volta spento il focolare le lastre in ghisa mantengono il calore a lungo e continuano a irraggiare
l’ambiente amplificando la resa calorica della legna o del pellet riducendo il consumo energetico.

Grey cast iron is an excellent conductor of heat which offers high resistance to corrosion and to usury.
It is for these qualities that cast iron is optimal for manufacturing of heating systems with high performance
either on fireplaces, stoves and thermo fireplaces.
Cast iron plates diffuse the heat by irradiance, this means that they store up the heat and then release it
gradually.
Once turning off the fire all cast iron plates maintain the heat for long and keep irradiating warmth
in the surrounding environment. As the heat outturn from pellets and woods increases the energetic
consumption is greatly reduced.

Posso avere misure personalizzate?
Can I have custom sizes?
È possibile realizzare qualsiasi tipo di forma e dimensione grazie alle
ottime proprietà di lavorazione della ghisa. Possono essere forate,
tagliate e sagomate con opportuni strumenti per poterle istallare su tutti
i tipi di caminetto, termo camino o caldaia.
Per questo è necessario inviare la pianta del vostro focolare e del pianofuoco dimensionandola in ogni suo dettaglio (in formato elettronico
oppure disegno a matita) indicando le dimensioni interne dei lati,
l’altezza totale che si vuole rivestire e per la base indicare, se necessario,
la posizione del foro per la griglia e cassetto per la raccolta delle ceneri.
Il cassetto, aiutando la circolazione dell’aria, aumenterà anche il tiraggio
della canna fumaria (per apportare modifiche di tiraggio consigliamo
l’intervento di un fumista specializzato).
Noi possiamo realizzare lastre in unica fusione fino alla misura di
120 x 140 cm ma, ove possibile, consigliamo di istallare formati più
piccoli: hanno meno rischi di rottura durante il ritiro/dilatazione e sono
sicuramente più maneggevoli per l’istallazione.
E’ bene ricordare che la ghisa alla temperatura di 500 gradi ha una
dilatazione di circa 1% quindi al momento dell’ordinazione vi verrà
chiesto se avete tenuto conto di tale parametro.

Posso inserire qualsiasi decoro?

È possibile inserire tutti i decori che troverete nelle pagine successive a
partire dalla dimensione minima indicata.
Esempio: Fig.A la lastra modello fabbri ha una dimensione minima di 57x47
cm; se vogliamo realizzare un frontone con misure 70 x 65 utilizzeremo
una LL7070 che taglieremo a misura. La lastra ornata sarà posizionata al
centro se non diversamente indicato (A=B=11,5; C=D=9). Per ordinare
misure personalizzate è necessario inviare uno schizzo a matita indicando
la figura scelta e le dimensioni richieste (dettagliare come in fig. A se si
vuole la figura non centrale). La lastra ornata sarà fissata su una piastra in
ghisa liscia.
È inoltre possibile realizzare stampi personalizzati con stemmi, rosoni,
date e nomi richiedendo la realizzazione della modelleria. I nostri artigiani
possono ricopiare fedelmente disegni o bassorilievi e lo stampo potrà
essere utilizzato non solo per le lastre da camino ma per ogni necessità.

Come si fissa?
Le lastre, per la natura della ghisa dilatano 1 cm al metro. Si consiglia
pertanto, al momento dell’acquisto, di tener conto di questo spazio per
permettere la dilatazione ed evitare rotture. Le lastre frontali e laterali vanno
posizionate leggermente inclinate così come mostrato in fig.3. Si consiglia
di fissare le lastre con le grappe GRA sul lato superiore o laterale della
lastra, lasciando una tolleranza di 0,3 cm.
La base può essere collocata sotto le lastre o a contrasto con le stesse,
secondo preferenza. Per migliorare l’utilizzo alloggiare il piano sulla sabbia
che esalta le proprietà di rifrazione di calore della ghisa.

How can be fixed?
The plates, by the nature of the cast iron dilate 1 cm per meter. We
