Sul fiume Hudson a New York c’era un piccolo faro rosso. Era
molto orgoglioso, perché davanti a lui passavano tantissime
imbarcazioni che lo salutavano.
On the Hudson river, in New York, there was a Little Red
Lighthouse. It was very proud, because in front of it passed
a lot of ships. All said “Hello!” to the lighthouse.
Every night a man lighted on the lighthouse, that began to flash.
Thanks to its light ships avoided to crash into the rocks. The
lighthouse felt very helpful!
Ogni notte un uomo accendeva il faro, che si metteva a
lampeggiare. Grazie alla sua luce le imbarcazioni evitavano di
sbattere contro le rocce. Il faro si sentiva molto utile!
When it was foggy, the man rang a bell that
said: “Warning! Be careful!”. The lighthouse felt
very important.
Quando c’era la nebbia, l’uomo faceva squillare una campana
che diceva: “Attenzione! Pericolo!” Il faro si sentiva molto
importante.
One day some workers began to build an enormous grey bridge.
On its top shone a light: it was really big!! The lighthouse felt
small and useless.
Un giorno alcuni operai iniziarono a costruire un enorme ponte
grigio. Come era grande! Sulla sua cima splendeva una grande
luce! Il faro si sentiva piccolo e inutile.
AIUTO!!
But one night nobody came to light on the lighthouse. A terrible hurricane
broke out and a thick fog surrounded the river Hudson. The ship tried to see
the flash and to hear the bell, but it didn’t see and hear anything. The ship
crashed into the rocks and was destroyed.
Una notte nessuno venne ad accendere il faro. Scoppiò un terribile uragano e
una densa nebbia circondò il fiume Hudson. Il rimorchiatore cercò la luce del
faro e il suono della campana, ma non vide e sentì nulla. Il rimorchiatore
sbattè contro le rocce e venne distrutto.
The bridge asked to the lighthouse: “Where is your light?
Mine is for planes, yours warns ships. Everyone has his
job!”
Il ponte chiese al faro: “Dov’è la tua luce? La mia serve per gli
aerei, la tua guida le navi. Ciascuno ha il suo compito!”
Finally the man arrived. He was panting: “Some bad boys hid my key!
Naughty boys!”. The light of the lighthouse flashed in the dark and the bell
began to ring. The Little Red Lighthouse was very happy: it was still
helpful!
Finalmente arrivò l’uomo, trafelato: “Alcuni ragazzacci mi hanno nascosto
la chiave! Che bricconi!” La luce del faro splendette nel buio e la campana
iniziò a lanciare il suo avvertimento. Il piccolo faro rosso era molto
contento: era ancora utile!

The Little Red Lighthouse, officially Jeffrey's Hook Light, is a small lighthouse
on the Hudson River in New York City. It was made famous by the 1942
children's book “The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge” by
Hildegarde Swift, illustrated by Lynd Ward. The lighthouse stands on Jeffrey’s
Hook, a small point of land that supports the base of the eastern pier of the
George Washington Bridge.

omonimo di Hildegarde Swift, sul fiume Hudson a
New York. Si trova nel Fort Washington Park, su
una piccola punta di terra detta Jeffrey's Hook, ai
piedi del pilone orientale del ponte sospeso George
Washington Bridge.

attraversa il fiume Hudson, ed è
l’unico ponte fra la città di New York
e il New Jersey. Con le sue
quattordici corsie è uno dei ponti più
trafficati al mondo, ma volendo lo si
può attraversare a piedi. Dalle corsie
pedonali si gode una delle vedute più
spettacolari del lato ovest di
Manhattan.

built in 1931, crosses the Hudson River,
and is the only bridge between the city of
New York and New Jersey. With its
fourteen-lane highway is one of the
busiest bridges in the world, but you can
cross it by foot. From the pedestrian
lanes there is one of the most
spectacular views of the west side of
Manhattan.

suo nome all’ inglese Henry
Hudson, che lo esplorò nel 1609,
ma era già stato osservato
dall’italiano Giovanni da

from north to south through eastern New York. The
river flows past Albany, and forms the border between
New York City and New Jersey. The river is named
after Henry Hudson, an Englishman, who explored it in
1609. It had previously been observed by Italian
explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano.
