Un abbraccio galattico
Il telescopio spaziale Hubble ha ottenuto la più nitida e dettagliata
immagine di una coppia di galassie interagenti conosciute come Arp 142.
Quando due galassie passano troppo vicine l’una all’altra iniziano ad
interagire, la loro reciproca gravità le deforma causando cambiamenti
spettacolari in entrambi gli oggetti.
In alcuni casi, le galassie finiscono
per collidere, ma in altri possono fondersi oppure essere fatte letteralmente
a pezzi.
Poco sotto il centro dell’immagine, c’è
la galassia NGC 2936, una delle due
interagenti che formano Arp 142,
chiamata spesso anche “galassia
pinguino”. Un tempo era una normale
galassia a spirale ma è stata fortemente
deformata dalle forze mareali indotte
dalla sua compagna cosmica. I resti
della sua struttura a spirale si possono
ancora vedere – l’ex nucleo galattico,
parzialmente oscurato da un’enorme
nube di polvere, ora forma l’ “occhio”

del pinguino, attorno al quale è ancora
possibile vedere ciò che rimane di uno
dei bracci di spirale della galassia
originaria. In basso, c’è la compagna
NGC 2937, visibile come un ovale
bianco. La coppia somiglia ad un
pinguino che protegge o cova il suo
uovo.
Gli effetti di interazione gravitazionale
tra le galassie, con il conseguente
scambio di materia, possono essere

devastanti e si manifestano sulle nubi di
gas e polveri che, collassando, hanno
creato un violento aumento nella
produzione di stelle giovani e massicce.
Nella parte alta dell’immagine sono
visibili due stelle luminose che in realtà
appartengono alla nostra Galassia, ma
si trovavano lungo la stessa linea di
vista di Arp 142. Dietro una di queste c’è
una striscia blu che è in realtà un’altra
galassia più lontana, che non ha niente
a che vedere con Arp 142.
Questa coppia viene chiamata con il
nome di Arp in onore all’astronomo
americano Halton Arp, che nel 1966
pubblicò un catalogo di galassie molto
strane, chiamato “Atlas of Peculiar
Galaxies“. Arp compilò il catalogo nel
tentativo di capire come le galassie si
evolvono e cambiano forma nel tempo.
Scelse i suoi obiettivi sulla base delle
forme strane di questi oggetti, ma solo
più tardi ci si rese conto che molti di
questi
erano
in
realtà
galassie
interagenti o in fase di fusione.
All’epoca
della
compilazione
del
catalogo, le dinamiche delle interazioni
tra le galassie erano ancora poco
conosciute e difficili da spiegare, e
spesso le forme osservate in alcune
lontane galassie erano completamente
inspiegabili.
Il telescopio spaziale Hubble è riuscito a
fare un enorme balzo di qualità in
questo senso, grazie ad osservazioni
così dettagliate da riuscire a mostrarci
anche i dettagli più minuti.
A galactic embrace
The spatial telescope Hubble has gotten the clearest and detailed image of a couple of
known interactive galaxies as Arp 142.
When two galaxies pass too much neighbors the one to the other one they begin to
interact, their mutual gravity deforms her causing spectacular changes in both the
objects. In some cases, the galaxies end up colliding, but in others you/they can melt

Le redazioni dell'ARRL hanno comunicato che il Programma di alta frequenza
attivo aurorale di ricerca (HAARP) ha chiuso. Il Program manager di HAARP, il
dottor James Keeney a Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, ha detto all'ARRL
che il centro di ricerca ionosferica 35 acri tentacolare in remoto a Gakona, Alaska,
è stato sigillato dall'inizio di maggio.
"Attualmente il sito è abbandonato", ha detto. "Si tratta di soldi. Non ne abbiamo
piu ". Keeney, ha detto anche che nessuno è in loco, le strade di accesso sono
bloccate, gli edifici sono incatenati e l'alimentazione spenta.

Spazio: ultima frontiera! E' arrivato il tempo che la gente prenda coscienza che non
siamo soli nell'universo. Come disse l'astrofisico Labeque al palazzo dell'UNESCO
al congresso mondiale del SETI di Parigi del Settembre 2008 " SOMETHING IS
HERE". "Qualcosa è qui" e i tempi sono maturi per farsene una ragione e l'FBI lo ha
confermato!
Da molti anni strumenti dei satelliti
artificiali, dei militari e della NASA
rilevano e registrano la presenza di
velivoli sconosciuti attorno al nostro
pianeta, alcuni dei quali hanno grandi
dimensioni. La loro presenza è così
massiccia che talvolta capita che del
materiale in questione riesce a
sfuggire alla censura delle autorità, e
quindi viene prontamente divulgato al
pubblico.
Per quanto riguarda gli UFO di piccole
e di medie dimensioni, sono da
ricordare alcuni velivoli sconosciuti
ripresi dalle telecamere degli Shuttle
NASA e le loro incredibili acrobazie
che riescono a compiere anche nello
spazio. In questo caso gli UFO
maggiormente filmati sono quelli di
tipo sferico.
Inoltre è da menzionare un caso
interessante di qualche anno fa.
Da diverse fonti ufficiali nel 1999 è
emersa la straordinaria notizia che vi è
un oggetto orbitante che i militari
americani considerano come una
sonda aliena. La sonda aliena è
ufficialmente classificata come un
oggetto asteroidale che si muove
rapidamente e le è stato dato il nome
“1991VG”. Questo oggetto ha un

diametro di quasi 10 metri, ha elementi
orbitali simili a quelli della Terra ed è
stato scoperto dallo specialista della
ricerca J.V. Scotti del Lunar and
Planetary
Laboratory
(Università
dell’Arizona,
Scienze
Spaziali).
L’oggetto è definito dallo scopritore
come
un’astronave
di
ritorno,
confermando così le dichiarazioni di
uno specialista militare, il sergente
Clifford Stone, il quale ha dichiarato
che il 1991VG è un’astronave che sta
ritornando.
Per quanto riguarda UFO di grandi
dimensioni, da molti anni i satelliti
meteorologici riprendono UFO di vario
tipo e di grandi dimensioni che si
trovano temporaneamente in orbita in
una posizione fissa intorno alla Terra,
ad una distanza di 225000 km.
Si tratta spesso di rilevazioni
effettuate con dispositivi a raggi
infrarossi, i quali permettono di
ottenere un’immagine molto nitida
dell’oggetto grazie al fatto che gli UFO
sono fonti di energia infrarossa.
Le immagini di questi satelliti sono
persino captabili da chiunque sia in
possesso di un computer e di una
attrezzatura adeguata.
Data la strumentazione e il modo di

ripresa dei satelliti artificiali terrestri,
essi sono in grado di catturare le
immagini solo di UFO di enormi
dimensioni, sopratutto quelli che sono
grandi centinaia di Km.

Il gran caldo di fine luglio non ci ha scoraggiati, e nemmeno la concomitanza del contest

Così sabato 27 luglio, nel primo pomeriggio, sfidando i 30°, insieme a Gianni I1YHU abbiamo
raggiunto il luogo previsto, ben conosciuto, perchè in passato effettuammo già altre
attivazioni in quanto si trova in posizione elevata e nei pressi della città vecchia..
Questa torre, situata nella "Pigna", l'antico borgo medioevale di Sanremo,
era nata per la difesa del Capitolo, il luogo dove venivano prese le decisioni
che riguardavano l'intera comunità. Con il passare dei secoli venne
ovviamente rimaneggiata per essere adatta alle esigenze abitative . E' un
bene vincolato dalla Regione Liguria.

C'è voluto più tempo del normale per sistemare l'automobile e montare l'antenna in quanto
le altre vetture occupavano gli spazi abitualmente utilizzati e le poche zone d'ombra
disponibili.
Abbiamo iniziato in 40m split con segnali piuttosto bassi la cui ricezione era ulteriormente
disturbata dai rumori provenienti dalla strada; siamo passati in 20m dove regnava il deserto
più assoluto e ritornati velocemente in 40m per concludere l'attivazione con oltre 140 qso in
due ore. Parecchi soci della nostra sezione si sono fatti presenti per darci il punto e
consentirci di raggiungere il quorum più velocemente .
Massiccia la presenza dei " castellari" più affezionati nonostante le vacanze e le relative
trasferte.
Un grazie a tutti per la partecipazione; il mio prossimo impegno sarà attivare un new-one
dalla montagna nel giro di un paio di settimane.
Nella panoramica scattata da Gianni yhu si intravede la prossima referenza, una torre di
avvistamento situata in posizione strategica, occorre solamente trovare la documentazione
storica.
Neither high July temperature nor IOTA Contest discouraged us to transmit from the new
reference: DCI-IM205 Torre del Capitolo di Sanremo; therefore saturday the 27th July early in
the afternoon, defing the 30° , together with Gianni I1YHU , we reached the well known place.
This tower ,located inside the "Pigna" the old Sanremo Middle Ages village , born to defend
the Capitolo , the place where were taken decisions related to the community. It is now quite
different from the original as it has been adapted to the needs of inhabitants.
It is under the environment of Regione Liguria.
We began in 40m split receiving weak signals ; we moved to 20m were we found the desert,
back to 40m to end transmission after two hours and almost 140 qso. We detect a high
partecipation from "Castle fans" in spite of holidays time .
We have to thanks everybody for their participation, my next commitment is to work a new
reference from Susa valley within a couple of weeks.
In the pano , taken from Gianni i1yhu, it can be seen the next reference, a sighting tower
located quite high in a strategic point; it is only necessary to find relevant historic
documentation.

REGOLAMENTO
(Aggiornato al 01 Giugno 2013)
1) Il WAIL (Worked All Italian Lighthouses) è gestito e rilasciato dalla
Sezione ARI di Genova dal 1 Giugno 2013, in continuità con la
precedente gestione di ARI Nizza Monferrato. Il Diploma è istituito

con il duplice scopo di far conoscere e valorizzare i fari italiani e
d’incoraggiare l’attività radiantistica in portatile.
2) Il diploma è rilasciato:
-
a tutti gli “hunter” OM/YL/SWL, italiani e stranieri, che
dimostrino di aver collegato/ascoltato minimo 30 fari italiani
ubicati in almeno 5 Regioni diverse;
- a tutti gli “attivatori” OM/YL, italiani e stranieri, che dimostrino
di aver attivato minimo 10 fari ubicati su tutto il territorio
nazionale.
3) I collegamenti sono permessi su tutte le bande radioamatoriali, dagli 0.7 ai 160 metri, e in
qualsiasi modo di emissione (SSB, CW, RTTY, SSTV, digitale, ecc.) purché nel pieno rispetto
del Band Plan. In nessun caso sono validi QSO effettuati via ripetitore o cross
band.
4) I fari validi per il conseguimento del diploma WAIL sono
unicamente quelli referenziati nell’apposito elenco, disponibile
presso l’Award Manager Andrea Nuzzi (IZ8WNH), il Referente
Tecnico Roberto Pittimo (IZ1TRK) e sul sito web del diploma WAIL
(http://www.arigenova.it/wail_file/referenze.htm).
5) Le referenze sono state selezionate sulla base delle informazioni
rilasciate dalla Marina Militare Italiana
(http://www.marina.difesa.it/STORIACULTURA/FARI/Pagine/italia.aspx). Sono
considerati validi tutti i segnalatori denominati come “faro” e solo i
“fanali” d’interesse architettonico e storico-culturale, la cui portata
minima è di almeno 10 miglia marine. L’aggiunta o cancellazione di
una referenza, anche su proposta degli attivatori, sarà valutata a
insindacabile giudizio dell’Award Manager e del Referente Tecnico.
6) Le referenze rimosse dall’elenco in vigore fino al 31 Maggio 2013,
che risultino tuttavia confermate/convalidate entro la stessa data,
continueranno a valere ai soli fini del diploma e delle relative
classifiche (“principio del diritto acquisto”).
7) Per richiedere il diploma non è necessario inviare o possedere tutte
le QSL. Solo agli SWL sarà richiesto un estratto del proprio log in
formato ADIF.
8) Il diploma è rilasciato ad ogni OM/YL/SWL che ne farà richiesta
http://www.arigenova.it/wail_file/formdiploma.htm. Sarà
dalla pagina
gratuito in formato elettronico ed inviato via e-mail. Per la versione cartacea è
previsto un contributo di Euro 10, a titolo di rimborso spese. L’Award Manager
fornirà via e-mail le istruzioni su come effettuare la ricarica sulla carta PostePay
dell’Associazione.
9) Sono previsti avanzamenti (“Steps”) e “Honor Roll”. Gli
avanzamenti, sia per gli “attivatori” che per gli “hunter”, consistono

10) I possessori del diploma potranno apporre sulle proprie QSL il logo
del diploma WAIL, scaricabile dal sito e disponibile in alta
risoluzione grafica.
SEZIONE RIGUARDANTE GLI ATTIVATORI
Aggiornata al 01 Giugno 2013
a) Affinché le attivazioni risultino valide dovranno essere rispettati i
seguenti criteri:
-
Le operazioni sono permesse fino ad una distanza massima di
500m in linea d’aria dal faro (saranno valide anche le attività
praticate in mobile marittima);
- Il numero minimo di QSO/faro è così ripartito per banda:
• HF: 50 QSO/faro;
• 50/VHF: 15 QSO/faro;
• UHF: 5 QSO/faro;
-
chiara documentazione fotografica che testimoni l’attivazione:
una foto che riprenda il solo faro messo ben a fuoco e una foto
che ritragga insieme il faro e l’attivatore. Le foto dovranno
essere in formato .jpg, risoluzione minima 800X600.
- coordinate geografiche che localizzino la posizione della stazione
in attività (es. 40°44′55″N, 73°59’11”W).

.jpg) ed eventuali QSL sul faro. Questo materiale sarà pubblicato
sulla vetrina del sito internet WAIL.

del log in formato ADIF, le fotografie, le coordinate geografiche e
qualsiasi altro documento previsto al punto b), sottoforma di
un’unica cartella compressa (.zip, .rar) rinominata CALL_REF-WAIL (Es.:

d) Nel caso di un’attivazione (nella stessa giornata) alla quale
partecipa più di un operatore, la referenza sarà accreditata al
titolare del primo nominativo, secondo il numero minimo di QSO
previsto al punto a). Per ottenere gli ulteriori accrediti della stessa
referenza, gli altri operatori dovranno effettuare almeno 30 QSO con
i rispettivi nominativi, senza vincoli di modo e di banda. Ciascun
operatore dovrà indipendentemente seguire la norma al punto c).
e) Non è possibile attivare contemporaneamente più di una referenza
e non sono ammesse più di due attivazioni al giorno (New-One) con
il medesimo nominativo. La durata complessiva dell'attivazione
deve essere superiore a 1 ora e la banda dei 20 metri deve essere
obbligatoriamente utilizzata.
f) L’Award Manager si riserva il diritto e il dovere di verificare, con
qualsiasi strumento e mezzo elettronico disponibile, la validità dei
QSO effettuati dall’attivatore. Sono possibili contatti diretti tra
“hunter” e Award Manager. Qualora un congruo numero di QSO non
sia confermato, l’Award Manager potrà considerare nulla
l’attivazione. Tale giudizio è inappellabile.
g) Ciascun attivatore riceverà all’atto della convalida un “Certificato di
Attivazione”, personalizzato e specifico per ogni faro, quale premio
per la pratica svolta.
h) La cortesia finale di un QSO è sempre la QSL. Si raccomanda
all'attivatore l'invio della QSL via bureau o, comunque, di rendere
noti i metodi di spedizione della QSL. E’ naturalmente possibile
riportare sulla QSL più collegamenti e più referenze.
i)
Gli attivatori che vorranno pubblicizzare con anticipo le loro
operazioni potranno inviare le informazioni (referenza del faro,
nominativo, data, QSL manager, ecc.) alla Mailing List che
permetterà, a chi volesse, di ricevere in tempo reale le informazioni
sulle nuove attivazioni.
j)
Sarà cura dell’Award Manager pubblicare fotografie, QSL
personalizzate ed altra documentazione riguardante i fari attivati.
RULES

1) The WAIL Award (Worked All Italian Lighthouses) has been managed and issued by the ARI
Genova Club since June 1st, 2013, and previously managed by the ARI Nizza Monferrato
Club. The Award is established to promote the Italian lighthouse heritage and to support
portable ham radio activities.

2) The Award will be issued:
to any Italian/foreign OM/YL/SWL (“hunter”), who will have connected/listened at
least 30 Italian lighthouses from 5 different Italian Regions;
- to any Italian/foreign OM/YL (“activator”), who will have activated at least 10 Italian
lighthouses.

3) QSOs are allowed in any band (from 0.7 to 160m) and emission mode (SSB, CW, RTTY,
SSTV, digital modes, etc.), just respecting the Band Plan. QSOs via repeaters and cross band
are forbidden in any case.
4) To pursue the WAIL Award, an official lighthouse directory is available from the Award
Manager Andrea Nuzzi (IZ8WNH) and the Technical Referee Roberto Pittimo (IZ1TRK) upon
request, and from the WAIL website (http://www.arigenova.it/wail_file/referenze.htm).
5) The lighthouse directory is based on information published by the Italian Navy, available
from http://www.marina.difesa.it/STORIACULTURA/FARI/Pagine/italia.aspx. Any addition
and deletion of a reference, proposed by activators too, will be evaluated by both the Award
Manager and the Technical Referee only. Their decision is unquestionable.
6) References deleted from previous directories but confirmed/validated until May 31st 2013
will be considered as valid for pursuing the Award.
7) No QSLs verification is requested to OM/YL hunters, as QSOs will be proved automatically.
SWLs will be asked for sending a copy of their logbook in ADIF format.

The award is issued to any OM/YL/SWL upon request, filling in the form at
http://www.arigenova.it/wail_file/formdiploma.htm. The award is free of charge in the
electronic version and it is sent by e-mail. In the paper version, a contribution of Euros 10
(US dollars 15) is requested to cover shipping costs. The deposit can be charged after
receiving instructions on how to do from the Award Manager.
9) Endorsements (“Steps”) and “Honor Roll” are envisaged, too. Endorsements, both for
hunters and activators, consist of special awards issued stepwise every 35 confirmed
references and until complete confirmation of all the references, following the scheme

GUIDELINES FOR ACTIVATORS

a) Operations must meet the following criteria to be validated:

Operations are allowed up to a distance of 500m (545 yards) from the lighthouse
(operations in maritime mobile are allowed, too);
The minimal amount of QSOs/lighthouse in each band is:

Clear photographic proof of the activation: one picture has to depict the lighthouse alone
in a well-focused image, and one picture must depict both the lighthouse and the
activator. Pictures should be in .jpg format, minimal resolution 800x600;
Geographical coordinates of the activating station (eg. 40°44′55″N, 73°59’11”W).
b) Additional pictures (at most 3, in .jpg format) of the ongoing operation and personal QSL
cards are warmly welcome, although not mandatory. Such additional material will be
published on the WAIL home page photo gallery.
c) Activators must send a copy of their log file in ADIF format, along with the pictures and any
further document as in bullet b), in a single and compressed file (.zip, .rar) named
CALL_REF-WAIL (Eg.: IZ1AAA_LI-007). Please, use the following link for uploading files

d) Within the same day and in case of an activation with more than one operator, the
referenced lighthouse will be credited to the first operator been on the air, following the
criteria in bullet a). If the other group members wished a credit be extended, each operator
must log at least 30 additional QSOs, using his personal callsign and without any limitation
of band and mode of emission. Then, each operator will independently follow the procedure
reported in c)
e) Simultaneous activations of two different references are not allowed, as well as more than
two activations per day (New-Ones) using the same callsign. Overall activations will take at
least 1 hour and connections in the 20m band are mandatory.
f) The Award Manager might reserve the rights of checking QSOs by means of any electronic
device. E-mail contacts between the Award Manager and hunters are part of the validation
process, too. If a relevant number of QSOs are not confirmed by hunters, the Award
Manager might declare the activation as invalid. The final decision is unquestionable.
g) Each activator will receive a customized, and detailed, “Certificate of Attendance” after the
validation process.
h) The final courtesy of a QSO is the QSL. The Award Manager strongly recommends all the
activators to confirm their QSOs with a QSL via bureau, or specifying the preferred method
of QSLing. More than one QSO report in a single QSL is allowed.
i) Activators will be able to spread their activities early, sending information (lighthouse
reference, callsign, date, QSL manager, etc.) via the WAIL Mailing List, after registration.
j) The Award Manager will take care to publish any picture, customized QSL and further
information about the activated lighthouses on the official WAIL webpage.

In una quotidianità in cui proteggere i
dati che passano attraverso telefoni,
computer e tablet è sempre più difficile,
avere una password efficace sembra
davvero il minimo per mettersi al riparo
da intrusioni indebite e indesiderate. Se
la tecnologia che legge la parola chiave
nel pensiero è ancora fantascienza, un
sistema come quello delle impronte
digitali potrebbe essere molto più
realizzabile. Non già telefonini dotati di
sensore di rilevazione delle impronte
personali - l'antesignano di questo tipo
fu annunciato, senza avere grosso
seguito, da Siemens nel 'lontano' 1998 ma un dispositivo con superficie tattile
come i moderni smartphone e tablet che
'riconosca' ad ogni tocco la persona che
lo sta utilizzando. Lo 'schermo del
futuro', come qualcuno lo ha già
battezzato, potrebbe essere quello di
'Fiberio', nome del prototipo e relativo
progetto di due ingegneri tedeschi. Si
tratta del primo touchscreen biometrico,
spiegano a New Scientist i 'padri' del
progetto Christian Holz e Patrick
Baudisch dell'Hasso Plattner Institute di
Potsdam. Normalmente, afferma Holz, ''i
display non possono rilevare le
impronte digitali e i sensori di impronte
non possono mostrare immagini. Quello

L'accuratezza

riconoscimento impronte sarebbe in

anche un proiettore sottostante - ma
che in futuro potrebbe evolversi e
fungere così da password per sbloccare
i dispositivi. Ma avere anche altre
applicazioni

ancora più evolute. E' il primo schermo,
sottolineano gli inventori, che autentica
gli utenti 'durante' l'interazione tattile,
anche ''multi-touch''. Una tecnologia che
di sicuro non passa inosservata, tanto
che c'è chi non esclude possa finire nel
mirino di colossi 'tech', come Apple che
punta - secondo insistenti indiscrezioni
- a 'sfornare' un nuovo iPhone dotato di
riconoscimento di impronte digitali,
magari integrato nel touchscreen.
Ipotesi nemmeno troppo peregrina visto
che proprio in questa direzione
andrebbe un brevetto depositato da
Cupertino che descrive un display
'touch' con sensore per determinare
impronte.

Realizzata da O3b, era stato un sogno di Bill Gates
Era il sogno di Bill Gates, ma
impossibile all’epoca. Nella metà degli
anni Novanta il fondatore di Microsoft si
appassionava all’idea di Internet via
satellite. Così tanto che accettava di
dare il via a un progetto faraonico
investendo subito 10 milioni di dollari
per iniziare il progetto. L’obiettivo era il
lancio di una costellazione di addirittura
840 satelliti e così la rete terrestre si
sarebbe materializzata grazie a un
parallela rete satellitare. Il sogno si
rivelò
impraticabile
(sia
per
gli
investimenti che per la tecnologia) è
svanì rapidamente come era nato. Sono
passati quasi vent’anni e quell’idea
pesantemente rivista doveva diventare
realtà lunedì alle 20.53 (ora italiana) con
i primi quattro satelliti O3b dedicati
appunto all’impiego di Internet via
satellite utilizzando la banda Ka (18-40
GHz). Ma il lancio del razzo russo Soyuz
è stato rinviato per forti venti sulla
Guyana francese.
DODICI SATELLITI - Ma è il primo
quartetto di una costellazione di dodici
satelliti che sarà completata entro i
primi mesi del 2014. Il secondo gruppo
sarà spedito in cielo infatti entro l’anno
in corso. Finora erano stati lanciati rari
satelliti singoli dedicati alla banda larga

meno lontano, grazie anche al transistor

segnali
esclusivamente ottici messo a punto dai
ricercatori dell'Istituto nanoscienze del
Consiglio nazionale delle ricerche
(CnrNano)
in
collaborazione
con
l’Istituto italiano di tecnologia (Iit),
l’Università del Salento e le università di
Madrid e di Parigi. Il dispositivo, basato
su
particelle
quantistiche
dette
polaritoni, è già in grado di eseguire
alcune operazioni fondamentali di ogni
computer e il risultato apre alla
possibilità di costruire interi circuiti
logici alimentati dalla luce. Lo studio è
pubblicato su Nature Communications.
“I ricercatori hanno sfruttato particolari
particelle quantistiche, dette polaritoni,
nate dall'interazione forte tra radiazione
e materia, una sorta di 'trasportatori di
luce' all'interno dei semiconduttori”,
spiega Daniele Sanvitto di CnrNano di
Lecce. “Alimentato da segnali otticopolaritonici in ingresso, il transistor che

minuti, hanno anche energie molto variabili, e quanto più sono
energetici tanto più piccola è la regione responsabile della loro
generazione. Lo ha scoperto un gruppo di ricercatori giapponesi che
ha seguito con appositi rilevatori gli eventi temporaleschi invernali di
un tratto di costa del Giappone.
Un
importante
passo
nella
comprensione
dei
meccanismi
responsabili dell'emissione di raggi
gamma che si verifica in concomitanza
con lo scoccare di fulmini – un
fenomeno noto da tempo – è stato
compiuto da un gruppo di ricercatori
dell'Università dio Tokyo, del centro di
ricerca Riken a Waco e della Japan
Atomic Energy Agency, che firmano un
articolo pubblicato sulle “Physical
Review
Letters”.
Gli impulsi di raggi gamma che sono
stati osservati nel corso degli ultimi
trent'anni hanno una durata molto
variabile, da meno di un millisecondo ad
alcuni minuti. Quale che sia lo loro
durata, si ritiene che la loro emissione
avvenga quando le particelle cariche
presenti nelle nubi sono accelerate dagli

durata dei raggi gamma di energia
compresa fra 3 e 10 megaelettronvolt e
quelli

energia

elevata.
Ciò suggerisce, osservano i ricercatori,
che l'area di emissione gamma a
energie
superiori
ai
dieci megaelettronvolt sia notevolmente
inferiore a quella dei raggi gamma a
bassa energia. In particolare, hanno
calcolato che la regione responsabile di
questo tipo di emissioni non si
estendesse per più di 180 metri nella
nube temporalesca.

i due nuovi microrganismi da record:
Pandoravirus salinus, trovato nei
sedimenti della foce del fiume Tunquen
in Cile, e Pandoravirus dulcis, ancora
più grande, nei fondali di un laghetto di
acqua dolce nei pressi di Melbourne.
Particolarmente notevole è il fatto che la
maggior parte dei geni dei pandoravirus
non compare in alcun database, il che
non solo rafforza l'ipotesi che i virus
giganti discendano da cellule a vita
libera che a poco a poco hanno perso la
maggior parte dei geni in seguito a un
parassitismo sempre più spinto, ma
suggerisce anche – come ha detto
Claverie - “che abbiano avuto origine da
una stirpe cellulare primitiva totalmente
diversa da Archea, Bacteria e Eukarya".
I ricercatori hanno anche proposto un
nome
per
