About me
My name is Fabrizia Zorzenon.
I graduated from the University of Architecture in Venice (IUAV) and have more than ten years of experience as architect and designer by now.
My educational background stems from a peculiar combination of skills and work experiences I made before, during and after the university.
On the one hand, I have inherited an extraordinary passion fro scenography, theater, exhibition design and architecture as extraordinary tool for nonconventional communication from my father. On the other hand, I have developed a strong interest in the subject of infrastructural architecture and
its role in social and culture context of the contemporary urban landascape, as well as in the works of the masterminds of the twentieth century such as
Eduardo Torroja, Jorg Schlaich, Marc Mimram and Antonio Adao da Fonseca. The latter is an interest that I have pursued mainly at the university, both
in Venice and in Berlin; thanks to vivid and fruitful exchanges with my supervisors Enzo Siviero and Mike Schlaich, in 2011 I earned a Ph.D. in Architecture
and Landscape at the University of Nova Gorica (SLO), entitled “Footbridges as new urban spaces”.
My professional education is therefore characterized by a continuos oscillation between different disciplines that has resulted in a personal way of
conceiving architectural design as a tool to create spaces able to communicate and lift up human experience. This kind of communication is much
more incisive than a verbal one could ever be, because it permeates the skin and transmits empirical and meaningful messages to our body, which reach
out straight to our soul to bring out the richnes of its being.
Thus, following this idea in 2010 I founded Officina 1159, a laboratory of creative design and temporary architecture, engaged in the realization of interior
and exhibition design project. In 2011, another personal project gained shape, namely imissdesign.com, which is a furniture collection made of recycled
corrugated cardboard. This collection embodies the synthesis of what I have learned in the previous years. Since 2012 I have worked as a freelance
architect involved in projects of exhibition and interior design for trade fairs, showrooms, temporary shops, fashion shows, celebration events and for
private flats and houses.
At the same time, I am keeping up activities of research and teaching about the possibilities of a relationships between architecture and communication
with a special focus on disciplines, which are usually not considered by architects such as phenomenology, anthopology, archetypal symbolism,
marketing and economics. In the last few years I have worked with the main Italian television channel (RAI) for the production of a new TV program
about recycling and eco-design within projects of interior design and home relooking. At the same time, I have met the challenge as Art Director of a
new start-up based on design, construction and sale of a new generation of low cost and self-building exhibition system characterized by a high quality
at aesthetic and communicative level.
Having said that, I see myself being engaged in projects around the world, a future in which I can improve my professional skills, ideally in exchange with
a group of young and abitious architects and designers, share my ideas, communicate the knowledge I have acquired and be involved in challenges to
prove my creative and intuitive abilities so as to stimulate my desire for a continuous improvement.

Dear Hiring Manager,
I am delighted to express my personal appreciation for Miss Fabrizia Zorzenon whose
qualities I have known in-depth through nearly ten years of cooperation, both at academic
and professional levels.
As Full Professor and Director of the Department of Architectural Contruction at the
University IUAV of Venice, I had the pleasure to know Fabrizia since 2002 when she took my
courses of Building Technology and Theory and Design of Bridges.
As a student, Fabrizia has immediately shown some important qualities that led her to
emerge and stand out quickly from the group of her colleagues. Determination, grit and a
genuine passion for the subject gave her the motivation to search then new ideas and
suggestions even outside of university context in oder to deepen what she had already
learned during my lessons.
Her habitual presence at major events, such as the triennial Footbridge Conference, is for
example just one of the many experiences that strongly marked her formative path, as well
as her study semester at the Technische Universitaet in Berlin, during which she attended
the courses of Prof. Mike Schlaich (international designer who later became her thesis
correlator) ore her active collaboration in several projects I promoted at national and
international level within the University IUAV of Venice. These and other experiences
allowed her then to achieve quickly and successfully some important goals and awards: in
2006 she graduated with a first class degree in Architecture with the thesis Footbridge: a
design guide and in 2011 she received the title of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of
Nova Gorica with an essay entiteled Footbridges as new urban spaces.
As her mentor, I would like to affirm that in both cases Fabrizia was able to show broadly her
willingness to evolve constantly, her ability to synthesize and re-elaborate concepts and
shapes at any level and her talent to investigate new realities going beyond traditional
schemes and creating connection with other disciplines so as to give original interpretations
of phenomena also already decoded.
Furthermore, during her PhD, Fabrizia took part in the design of some important
infrastructural projects realized in Italy between 2006 and 2008 by my architecture and
engineering firm, Progeest SRL. Just to give some examples, I can remember the Rarinantes
Footbridge over the river Bacchiglione in Padua and the Bridge over the river Taglio near
Venice.
At a professional level, I could then appreciate Fabrizia for her reliability, her deep sense of
responsibility and her dexterity in dealing with even the most critical situations.
Quick to learn new things, she is not afraid of challenges or stress from work and has a really
great creativity and intuitiveness that often make her an important resource within a design
team. Propositive and efficient in the work, she is also able to lead a group of people and to
organize and manage tasks in order to achieve a preset goal. Thanks especially to the
education received from her family (both parents are entrepreneurs), she has a special
personality that allows her to involve others easily leading them towards a common goal.
At a design level, instead, Fabrizia shows mostly an awareness and elegant design that
draws its inspiration from the great masters of the twentieth century such as Eduardo
Torroja, Pier Luigi Nervi, Louis Kahn, Eero Saarinen and Joerg Schlaich. In addition to this,
there is also her particular sensibility to the relationship between work, man and landscape
that is reflected through harmonious and meaningful shapes, details and materials carefully
chosen and well defined.
At a personal level, finally, since I met her the first time I have always seen Fabrizia as a
bright, friendly and passionate person, enthusiastic about life and proud of the professional
career she has taken. Inclined to reach highest goals, she always puts her whole self into any
new project, sharing knowledge and skills with others, in order to get the best from any
situation.
