PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
He conducts his research activities in central and southern Italy, and in Asia Minor. The research focus mainly
on archaeological surveys, ancient topography, remote sensing and archaeological maps, landscape
archaeology, preventive archaeology, satellite remote sensing for archaeology, geoarchaeology, GIS and
webGIS for Cultural Heritage.
EDUCATION AND DEGREES AWARDED

Degree in Conservation of Cultural Heritage (Archaeological Heritage) at the Tuscia University in
Viterbo (1998). Thesis Topografia antica del territorio di Bomarzo (supervisor Prof. P.A. Gianfrotta).
PhD in Ancient Topography (XIV Cycle) at the University of Salerno (2003). Thesis Carta archeologica
dell’ager Ciminius nord-orientale (supervisor Prof. P.A. Gianfrotta).
Exam committee member (Cultore della materia) of Ancient Topography and Underwater Archaeology at
the Tuscia University (from 2000).
Qualified as Associate Professor in Ancient Topography, gained at University of Calabria (decree n. 3720
of 28 dicembre 2010).
Qualified as Senior Researcher at CNR (CNR 364.88; s.s.d. Scienze dell’Antichità), decree n. 46390 of

Responsible for the research activities of ancient topography (2014-2015) aimed at the creation of the
archaeological map of ancient settlement of Sermugnano (VT), in cooperation with University Federico II
at Naples and the Superintendence of Archaeological Heritage of southern Etruria.
Responsible for the research activities of ancient topography (2002-2006 e 2010-2015) aimed at the
creation of the archaeological map of the Messapian and Roman city of Ugento (LE), in cooperation with
the Department of Cultural Heritage of Salento University, the Superintendence of Archaeological
Heritage of Apulia region and the Municipality of Ugento.
Responsible for the research activities (2013-2015) aimed at the creation of the archaeological map of
Messapian and Roman city of Alezio (LE), in cooperation with the Municipality of Alezio.
Responsible for the research activities of ancient topography (2004-2015) aimed at the realization of the
archaeological map of the urban area and the territory of the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantin Hierapolis
in Phrygia (Denizli, Turkey), in the framework of Italian Archaeological Mission.
Responsible for the research activities of ancient topography (2010-2013) aimed at the creation of the
archaeological map of Hellenistic and Roman city of Licata (AG), in cooperation with the University of
Messina.
Responsible for the research activities of ancient topography (2009-2013) aimed at the creation of the
archaeological map of Hellenistic and Roman city of Taormina (ME) and the study of its ancient pipeline,
in cooperation with the University of Messina and the Archaeological Park of Naxos and Taormina.
Responsible for the research activities of ancient topography (2011) aimed at the creation of the
archaeological map of the territory of Rodì Milici (ME), in cooperation with the University of Messina.
Co-Director of two archaeological excavations campaigns (June-July 2008, September-October 2009) in
Artanisi countryside, in the territory of Ugento (LE), carried out in cooperation with the Department of
Cultural Heritage of Salento University.
