Giorgio Cannara and Mauro Muzzolon Mipel strides ahead, in spite of the crisis The curtain falls on the 106th Mipel-The Bag show. The sector had high expectations of this long-awaited event. Everything was carefully organised with many changes, starting with the dates that were much earlier than those of previous events held traditionally in September. The earlier dates were intended to give buyers an opportunity to see the collections in advance and consider purchases in all tranquillity. It was, and today is still, a different fair, improved in its organisation and with a Mipel Today 4.indd 2 new layout of halls, completely renewed, both in structure and in the presentation mode of collections for summer 2015. Visitors found that collections could be easily viewed in the four exhibition areas: Design Studios, area dedicated to innovations, designers who dare and where the keyword is experimentation, Panorama, the area of international flavour, Extra, the perfect section for those who love to experiment their creativity and Punto.it, which houses Made in Italy excellence. Theme-oriented subdivisions, logical and easy to understand to put even the most distracted visitor at ease. There were many projects backing the fair comprising fashion shows that each day showcased the best of “made in Italy” at the fair. “It was a significant fair,” says Giorgio Cannara, President of Mipel, “who reiterated the role of the exhibition as the most important in the world for leather goods. Those who work in this sector cannot afford to miss it: here they find the best on the world stage of leather goods production.” Mauro Muzzolan, director of the exhibition, echoes the words of Cannara, “in spite of these being difficult times, and despite the huge difficulties recorded on some markets – Russia in the lead – Mipel remains a fair not to be missed by those who deal in leather goods. It is true, there is a crisis, these are delicate times but the response that our fair gave is clear: leather goods manufacturers don’t give up and were once again proactive, able to bring much innovation to the fair, the result of their experience and professionalism.” 02/09/14 20.52 Incontriamo Roberto Ricci Fare sistema a tutto campo Roberto Ricci è sicuramente uno dei grandi protagonisti del settore della pelletteria, ove ha ricoperto diversi ruoli fino a diventare un esperto anticipatore e creatore di tendenze, pur amando molto il vintage, che espone al Mipel con passione, proponendo una parte della sua vastissima collezione. These days it is important to create a system, without being afraid of asking for information, even when it comes to the possibility of obtaining credit and so on. Mipel exhibitors should not feel part of an elite group, buyers are the stars today. At a fair, it is important to present a selection with care, not only a few pieces but also preparing a company track. Mipel though has to give customers complete information and know how to manage communication, as it is already partly doing. We have to remember that accessories have to be beautiful but not showy: these days being excessive does not help and it should be left to the few designer labels. With an entire life in this sector behind me, I have a strong de- sire to pass-on something to young people; I would like to have direct contact with those producers who want to, creating a cooperation with the entire sector satisfying both parties”. Ricci’s passion goes beyond his words, a heritage that leather goods manufacturers should appreciate and make their own, thanks to the collaboration with Aimpes. These days communication is fundamental and we have to have the courage to beat new paths, without ignoring the beauty that Made in Italy still has to offer in every corner of the world. Our hope is that this appeal might be welcomed by those who are interested and we are sure there might be a lot of them. We meet Roberto Ricci An all-rounded system Roberto Ricci is definitely one of the great protagonists of the leather goods sector, where he covered various roles until he became an expert anticipator and creator of tendencies, still loving vintage, exhibiting at Mipel with passion, proposing a part of his wide collection. Always look forwards without forgetting the past could be a motto of his, and talking to him always offers hints that are never dull, thoughts about the sector, fashion and this changing world. Ricci, author of legendary Aimpes’ Trend Book, is a real guru and has a disenchanted look full of creativity: “I think this edition of Mipel has shown something good, even if exhibitors haven’t risked Mipel Today 4.indd 3 too much and preferred to choose their best-sellers. The world of fashion is at a turning point after all, something has to change to give oxygen to a breathless system in recent times”. Anyway “I have seen something good especially among young designers who have less afraid of risk and aren’t too close-knit to a tradition that, on one side, is full of wealth, but on the other hand, might become clumsy baggage”. Even marketing sometimes puts a limit and restrains imagination: “you have to know how to choose the right tones and match them with the right materials, in this respect, Aimpes can offer information and give a hand to promising people, even without huge assets something can be done. The excellence of made in italy recognised Important recognition for two standard-bearers of “made in Italy” Mipel doesn’t forget the people who made the history of Italian leather goods and celebrates with them like one big family. This was the case on Monday evening during the prize-giving ceremony of Mipel…issima when Giovanni Borri and Renato Angi were invited up on the stage. Giovanni Borri was awarded a prize for his fifty years in business, whilst Renato Angi for the top quality of his unparalleled “made in Italy” product. Two “standard-bearers” of Italian leather goods in the world. The appeal of the fashion shows MIPEL TODAY The third day of the showroom saw the twice-daily appointment with the fashion shows close on a high note. For the first three days of the fair, the spotlight was on top products of the many exhibitors of the world present at Mipel, who took advantage of the catwalk to reveal the identity of their collections created for spring-summer 2015, showcased and enhanced by gracious models. Bags, suitcases and umbrellas, precious and essential accessories in the look of every woman, were just some of the products that lit up the impressive white staircase set up by Mipel to highlight the new stylistic creations. In this event, as in the previous ones, thanks to these shows, fashion accessories magically came to life, captivating the vast audience of international buyers. Alexandra Ceretta, Andrea Muffato. Young designers at the fair Photoshooting: make your own book The live Photoshooting area is found in hall 12, where a model, a professional photographer, a designer and make-up artist recreate an actual photographic set that gives every exhibitor who wants it a chance to get a professional shot with the chosen product. This is an opportunity not to be missed, a “behind the scenes” of a quality photographic book. MIPEL TODAY The young designers of Cool Hunter Italy presented their creations within the DESIGN STUDIOS sector. Cool Hunter Italy is an association aimed at the entrepreneurial development of young “made in Italy” fashion designers and offers them personal consultancy, covering three areas: Italian production, commercial distribution and communications and image in favour of associated brands. In order to become a member of the Association you must be under the age of 35 and present a brand of clothing or fashion accessories “made in Italy”, regardless of your own country of origin. Yes to fashion, but also to comfort. This is Reisenthel’s assumption for next summer. At Mipel they will present the Hopi range and a special edition Hopi, a new model of bag with an ethnic take yet at the same time elegant: white lines on black backgrounds in an elaborate scheme reminiscent of the drawings and writings of ancient Indian tribes. The travel bag is perfect for weekends away and business trips, versatile, light and at the same time solid. A fundamental characteristic of the bags produced entirely in Italy is the processing of a particular type of prized leather called “kip hide”. This particular raw material doesn’t fear the passing of time but tends to acquire a vintage appeal without losing any of its quality or sturdiness. Soft lines in pastel shades and special attention paid to wor manship: this is Gianni Conti’s trend for spring summer 2015. Bags that have lived to the full, beautiful to look at and lovely to touch, accompanying summer like discreet allies, perfect for every occasion. AURORA PRESTIGE VENEZIA With the added advantage of true craftsmanship, top quality leathers produced by the best Italian tanneries, the sturdiness and durability of each model and the unmistakeable Italian design, the Aurora Prestige Venezia collection returns to Mipel. Cutting and stitching is done in-house with great attention paid to the smallest details. The yarn with which the bags are created, the leather, the fabric of the linings, the zips and every other accessory is produced in Italy. Aurora Prestige Venezia bags are the result of a twenty-year experience of master leather craftsmen, originating in Tuscany and completed in the Venice region. Giudi’s objective for the spring-summer 2015 women’s collection is to create colourful and original bags and accessories that catch the eye. In fact, the new bags have a strong personality, coming in various styles, relief prints and creative combinations of different shades. Interesting games of geometric colours (for example, black, yellow and white), give verve and elegance to some of the most attractive models. Geometric ornaments, together with floral decorations are also to be seen on leathers with relief print which come in pastel shades, as well as brighter colours, sometimes mixed together. Avorio MIPEL TODAY Look casual o elegante? Casual or elegant look? Avorio’s new spring-summer 2015 collection offers products for both necessities. What these ranges have in common is the use of colour, not only block tones but also with special combinations, a “must” of the season; in fact, three-colour and two-tone bags stand out. The most fashionable colours are those of nature: blue, red, orange, green, ochre, beige and brown, often put side by side. However, that’s not all: in fact the new collection is enlivened by bright colours like fuchsia and yellow and pastel shades like pink and green, teamed with white. The most stylish models include three-tone bowing bags in combinations of dove grey, white and black. The new spring-summer collection of Di Filippo Italiana Pelletterie focuses on embracing all markets a little, presenting models that satisfy the tastes of every woman and offering, as always, the elegance, practicality and comfort that distinguishes the company’s artisan production. The materials used to create these original bags comprise red buffalo leather, distressed and unlined leathers as well as classic calfskin. The most eye-catching shades are air-force blue, beige and pastel green; furthermore, it is impossible not to note a vivacious and creative range with mottled two-tone prints, comprising blue and green, cyclamen and yellow. Mipel’s soundtrack “Each woman is special, in and out”: it is from this principle that the new spring-summer 2015 collection for the German brand Rush originates. Therefore, just like the woman who carries it, the bag requires attention in every detail, both inside and outside. The uniqueness of the new Rush models is, in fact, the wealth of special details even on the inside, from the point of view of both function and appearance. Bags are in fact caskets full of useful surprises: differentsized compartments to keep everything tidy, clutches, keyrings; there is even the day-bag which contains the nightbag, removable … therefore, once you leave the office, you don’t have to stop-by to change your bag for the aperitif! The internal part of the bag is also enhanced by the design and the materials used. A triumph of colours that release charm and vitality, both inside and outside; even the zips present a surprising nuance, representing one of the most stylistic innovations of this collection. Fringing, tiny dolls in rhinestones and metal that dangle from the handles, pictures that recall fairy tales, glitter, pearl ad metal textures create a style that is both fresh and sophisticated, on leather and suede, so soft and comfortable. And the raw materials all come from Europe; the high quality of the leather, for instance, is “Made in Italy”. Even the range for men, with holdalls and leather rucksacks, roomy and comfy, pay meticulous attention to details. MIPEL TODAY Like for every great event, Mipel too got a bit of excitement with live music that for three days, from 31 August to 2 September, welcomed visitors. Funky rhythm and jazz music played out near the entrance of the exhibition area capturing the attention of passers-by. Many visitors stopped to film the quartet with their smartphones. Live music strikes again! The collection comprises various sizes of suitcase, from the smallest to the roomiest, in a wide range of colours. MIPEL TODAY A classic but always up-to-date style and, more importantly, 100% made in Italy, is the philosophy that has always characterised the Boldrini Selleria production right from 1955. The attention to detail and choice of materials has never wavered over the years: only Italian leather produced by Tuscan tanneries and vegetable tanned. This production has always kept alive the most precise tradition of “small shop” that creates products with classic lines but, at the same time, doesn’t age with the passing of the years. 14 HALL 8 punto.it - G32 Mipel Today 4.indd 14 02/09/14 20.53 MIPEL TODAY 15 Mipel Today 4.indd 15 02/09/14 20.53 Mipel Today 4.indd 16 02/09/14 20.53
