BUILDING DESCRIPTION
Questo prestigioso castello sorge su un’altura che
domina la strada per Vergiate e la Val Bodia.
Si accede al giardino attraverso il fianco destro
della villa; in pochi passi si presenta alla vista, in un
quadro ambientale di grande suggestività, il vasto
parterre all’italiana delimitato da una ricca
balaustra in pietra.
Il suo disegno e corredo vegetale appaiono netti e
semplicissimi, in accordo con i migliori esempi
lombardi di arte dei giardini del secolo dei Lumi.
Il complesso attuale mostra la coesistenza di tre
elementi: la corte del Barbée tardo medievale, la
villa settecentesca e il trecentesco oratorio di S.
Lorenzo.
L’organizzazione spaziale della villa avviene lungo
un unico asse longitudinale.
Si accede all’ingresso principale tramite due piccoli
rustici con apertura il cui contorno appare
finemente decorato come suggestive quinte
teatrali che racchiudono, divaricandosi, una
piazzetta in stile barocco.
Il suo arredo vegetale viene assicurato da un solo
esemplare di magnolia sempreverde, posto al
centro e dotato di un bel portamento, attorno al
quale prospettano il porticato settentrionale, le
finestre interne e i festoni dipinti in stile
settecentesco con graziosi e delicati trompe-d’oeil.
Gli interni presentano soffitti a cassettoni con
affreschi che celebrano storie di vita campestre e
marittima, in cui risaltano la natura viva e i
paesaggi collinosi tipici del Varesotto.
This prestigious castle stands on a hill that
dominates the road to Vergiate and the Val Bodia.
You can access to the garden through the right side
of the villa; just a few steps and you can admire, in
an environment of great charm, the vast Italian
parterre delimited by a rich stone balustrade.
Its design and plant equipment are clear and
simple, in accordance with the best examples of
Lombard garden art of the Enlightenment.
The current complex shows the coexistence of
three elements: the court of the late medieval
Barbee, the eighteenth-century villa and the
fourteenth-century oratory of S. Lorenzo.
The villa surface extends for a single longitudinal
axis. You enter to the main entrance by two small
opened rustics which outline is finely decorated as
suggestive theatrical scenes that hold a small
square in baroque style.
Its decoration plan is characterized by an unique
specimen of evergreen magnolia, placed at the
centre, it presents a nice gait. All around there are
the northern portico, the internal windows and
festoons paintings in eighteenth-century style with
lovely and delicate trompe d'oeil.
The interior features coffered ceilings with
paintings that celebrate maritimand country life
stories, in which stand out the living nature and
hilly landscapes typical of Varese.
