Main elements expected… • Evaluation (and quantification) the present and future CC impacts at regional level for each sector; • Evaluation of sectoral vulnerabilities to present and future climate; • Possible estimation of socio-economic costs of sectoral impacts; • Evaluation of adaptive capacity of each sector; • Evaluation of already implemented measures in the current sectoral policies, concerning adaptation co-objectives (comparative analysis); • Proposal and possible estimate of future adaptation measures per sector and cross-setoral issues, providing methodological support for mainstreaming the proposed measures into current sectoral policies, and monitoring systems; • Decision-makers and other stakeholders engagement in the process thought out participatory tools; • Public information and dissemination thought workshops and online tools, as well as networking Outline 1. Relevance of each impact from a sectoral pint of view (1=very low importance; 5=very high importance) Need for actions to fulfill each adaptation objective( 1=very low priority; 5=very high priority) Proposed adaptation measures Weighting climate change impacts and objectives: based on expert consultation method Simple additive weighting algorithm to determine objective priorities... Relevance of each impact Plenary (from 1workshop to 5) Need of adaptation actions in each adaptation objective (from 1 to 5) (W1+W2+W3+Wn,,,) /n + Priority of Adaptation objectives (from 1 to 5) (W1+W2+W3+Wn,,,) /n / 2 = P Outline 1. Background 2. The Regional Adaptation Strategy of Lombardy: structure and approach 3. The stakeholder engagement methodology 4. key findings Key findings The series of workshop undertaken with stakeholders –along with the provided information on climate change and relative impacts –served as an important capacity building factor Dissemination and effective communication of relevant information during the engagement process of the RAS has enabled the regional government to realize the real dimension of dealing with present and future climate change challenges: increase awareness Periodic meetings, briefings and continuous information sharing, consolidated the commitment and confidence between the Research Team, the relevant decision-makers, the regional technicians and the executive leader in charge of the horizontal coordination Key issues to enhance engagement of stakeholders were i) to guarantee an adequate perception of the identified climate change impacts at regional level; and ii) the contribution of stakeholders in the joint definition and prioritization of the adaptation objectives as part of the consensus building process Thank you !!! “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that the most adaptable to change” Charles Darwin (1809-1882)
