The finalities and the features of the educational process developed in the kindergarten tend to promote and support the formation and the development of child’s personal identity, autonomy and competences. On this respect, the kindergarten makes a Elefante Elephant Elephante proper environment available for the children, tailored to everyone; welcoming and stimulating, rich in materials and possibilities; capable of developing their capacities and trust in themselves; and making every child feel as a part of the group. All these are carried out through a real openness and availability, proven by the kindergarten reported to the social and cultural reality –with the family, in the first place—by receiving requests from the parents and answering to the new necessities. The kindergarten is closely related to the reality of the territory where the children and their families live; it values the present social and cultural values, changing them into: opportunities of knowledge and integration. Elefant Elefandi KINDERGARTEN ENGLISH 2 CHILDREN’S ADMISSION IN THE KINDERGARTEN The kindergarten admits all the children, regardless of their social status, sex, origin and religion. A special attention is given to the reception of the children in the kindergarten spaces. The family is invited to contact the kindergarten for confirming the date when the child will start attending it and for agreeing with the educators upon the date of an individual meeting between teachers and family. This session represents the beginning of a cooperating relationship between the adults and the co-division of the educative lines, depending on the child's new experience. In the first week, the children will start attending the kindergarten. At the beginning, they are part of a small group in order to favor the personalized report with the teachers and other adults belonging to the kindergarten staff and to allow the individualized acknowledgement of every child's needs and behavior. Balena Whale Baleine In the first days, the kindergarten attendance takes place only in the morning, without having lunch at the kindergarten; the parents will be able to assist to the activities proposed in the kindergarten, agreeing with the teachers upon the moment when they will separate from the child. The child's permanence in the kindergarten (the moment when the child would like to stay for lunch and later to attend the kindergarten in the afternoon) is obtained step by step, taking the children’s exigencies into consideration, as well as their level of adaptation to new circumstances; the parents should agree with the educators upon the arrival time and the separation from the child. The children aged 4 and 5 years, "kindergarten experts" already, together with their teachers, are present in the first moments of the little ones' reception so that an affective, favorable climate is created, whereby the senior ones talk to the little ones, mutually encouraging and supporting each other. Balenă Balena KINDERGARTEN ENGLISH 3 ONE DAY AT THE KINDERGARTEN kindergarten spaces, in the relationships with the others. However, the time planning of the day has a "formal" type of activity and an "informal" educational experience stage. The kindergarten active schedule is planned between 8.00 and 16.30. In September, the classes where the number of children attending the kindergarten is very high will have a schedule between 8.00 and 14.00 so that two simultaneous teachers can be present. The children’s arrival in the kindergarten is planned between 8.00 and 9.00. The children's arrival after 9.00 is admitted only in exceptional cases and it must be communicated to the kindergarten on beforehand. There is an anticipate entrance of the children also planned between 7.30 and 8.00 upon family’s needs – less in the kindergartens with a single section. The children’s departure schedule: between the hours 13.00 and 14.00 between 16.00 and 16.30. The organization of the activities should contain moments when the children carry out activities lead/ stimulated by the teachers as well as free moments when the children with a certain independence succeed to have their own experiences with the kindergarten materials, in the Pinguino Penguin The “formal” activities include the “ritual” daily moments: especially the ceremony of coming and leaving, the eating, hygiene, play ceremony and the educational activities. The day at the kindergarten is divided into many significant moments: children’s morning arrival and reception activities and morning snack lunch; the first going out; activities and afternoon snack; going out with the children belonging to (all day) extended schedule These representative moments from the daily activity are beneficial for acquiring rhymes and regulations that can become reference points for the child. The child must find the possibility to talk free in the kindergarten and to practice his abilities and competences. The possibility to choose how and what to play with allows him to feel content and satisfied by himself and by the things accomplished. Important learning opportunities are built by starting a relationship with adults and other children: the children learn together, one from another, within their relationships, by common activities. Pingouin Pinguin Pinguini KINDERGARTEN ENGLISH 4 PLAY SPACES AND MATERIALS The organization of the spaces permits defining the kindergarten as a proper environment for meeting the children's needs, corresponding to the educational functions so that every experience gets a final clear significance for the development of the children’s competences. According to these considerations, the teachers structure the spaces in order to favor both the individual activity and focus and the games and works in small groups. The spaces assigned for playing: “The dolls space”, destined for the family” symbolic play, whereby the children play parents roles in a context of spontaneous relations; “The travesty space”, destined to promote the identification experiments; “The kitchen space”, destined to allow children to reproduce activities and situations related to the family life. Pipistrello Bat Chauve-souris The spaces assigned for creative expression: the construction space, for offering the children a possibility to build, invent and produce, with the help of various materials made available; the space for graphic and painting activities, created for offering the children the possibility to draw and express their own experiences and image about world; the skills space, where the children can work, throw water, mix various materials with the hands: meal, grains, little stones, flakes, buttons, etc. The spaces assigned for specific learning: the motion space, where the children can have multiple experiences on acknowledging their own body, their abilities and limitations. the reading space, to ease the conversation and the communication in a warm and cozy environment; the multimedia space, to offer the possibility to stimulate the infantile expression by means of various idioms and codes. the scientific environmental space, where the children can discover and explore the little and big events around them. Liliac Lakuriqi i natës KINDERGARTEN ENGLISH 5 KINDERGARTEN STAFF Teachers They are responsible for the children’s care and promotion of their global development. The class is managed by two teachers that shift within the day and there are long times when both the teachers are present; meaning that both of them are present in the morning between the hours 9.30 and 13.30. The presence of two teachers in the class at the same time allows the educational activities to be carried out in a more efficient way and the children can also communicate with each other and the planned activities can be completed for the interest of one child as well as a group of children. A part-time employed teacher will be present in the classes that have the purpose to grant the relationship between the children’s classes, to support the educational and instructional projects within the kindergarten, to help the activities from the semi-classes and activities from some classes. The support teachers’ presence is foreseen in the classes where there are children with disabilities, with the role to stand by and help; the support teachers' schedule will be outlined to respond to every child’s exigency and to help the child integrate in the class with the other children. Workshop Masters The workshop masters’ presence is planned to support the laboratories, with their competencies in various fields (multimedia, graphic, musical, environmental and motion) for improving the formative offer of the kindergarten. The Auxiliary Staff (Cooks and Cleaners) Within this professional role, they are responsible for the environment surveillance, the food preparation and distribution. They cooperate with the teachers for the organization and administration of daily activities (arrival, departure, lunch serving, rest, snack serving, preparation of spaces for instructional activities, etc). They have the role of helping and supporting the teaching staff in the preparation of holidays at the kindergarten, of trips and educational voyages. The Educationalists and the Educational Coordination They are responsible for the educational quality of the kindergarten services. They have the role to support the teachers working groups in their activities of observation, projection and documentation. They are responsible for the formation of the instructional and auxiliary staff and they are available for consultancy activities with the parents. Cigno Swan Cygne Lebădă Mjelma KINDERGARTEN ENGLISH 6 PARENTS’ PARTICIPATION communication between school and family upon the teaching styles. The participation and social administration represent kindergarten features whereby the co-division is fundamental and the kindergarten is not an alternative to the family but a partner in the educational process. The parents have the opportunity to have suggestions and remarks, to formulate proposals, achieve the family’s initiatives and discuss about subjects related to the children’s growth and education. For this purpose, a system of communications/ relations is activated, outside of the individual meetings between parents and teachers so that the parents are involved –on various levels—in the activities of the kindergarten in the following meetings: class meetings; general meetings; participation committee; local board; The class meeting is formed by teachers who have the role to share the classroom activities with the parents, to discuss about the content of the educational and teaching curriculum, to verify the activities development within a year time frame, granting a continuous Colibrì Humming bird Colibri The general meeting is formed by parents and teachers group and its purpose is to consult everybody upon the educational plan and the functional projects, presented by the teachers; there might be proposals for activities of a socialeducational type (meetings and proposals on childhood theme, courses, working groups, parties organization etc). The participation committee is elected in these meetings. The participation committee is formed from more teachers and parents; a teacher and at least two parents are chosen from every class. The participation committee chooses a President whose responsibility is to discuss the proposals for initiatives of cooperation with the territory and the other kindergartens; to examine the projects of methodological/ educational and structural experimentation; to propose and organize meetings on educational subjects addressed to families. The internal committee is formed by the President and Vice-Presidents and one representative of the teaching staff. It carries out a connection function between various community kindergartens, by means of the competencies of its components (teachers and families) involved in the educational process of the children. In the kindergarten, the menu will be issued by nutritionists, according to nutrition charts differentiated on ages, according to the recommendations of the national and international authorities and approved by AUSL experts. The menu change offers every child the possibility to form and enhance his own taste, avoiding the monotony. The families can require to see the menu of individual kindergartens. In case of force majeure, strikes and problems related to transportation or to the impossibility to find the menu foods in the shops, the menus can be modified and the nutritionists must agree on the changes . The daily menu includes: morning snack based on fresh fruits; lunch composed from first course, second course with garnish and bread afternoon snack. Useful information about the menu: the supply of biological products in 8085% out of the total quantity of the products is guaranteed (fruits, greengroceries, vegetables, milk, yogurt, pastas, rice, meals, pastries, juices and fruit jam, tomato sauce and Tasso Badger Blaireau peeled tomatoes, frozen vegetables, diet products for children's weaning) the consumption of the typical products with Names of Protected Origin (NPO) is favorite, like for instance Parma ham, “Parmigiano Reggiano” cheese etc; fresh meat is used from animals born, raised and slaughtered on the national territory (especially guaranteeing for the beef and for the whole productive area); the suppliers must provide certificates regarding the absence of genetically modified organisms (GMO). The children's food is daily prepared in the kindergarten kitchen or the food is brought by a means of transportation from other kitchens. In the kindergartens that do not have a kitchen, the food transportation is made through means that permit the observance of the optimum temperature and conditions for food consumption. The Town Hall administration grants a monitoring system regarding the continuous improvement of the service quality, on basis of periodical checks and specific indicators, implying the parents’, teachers’ and bigger children’s participation to the so-called “food tasting”. Bursuc Vjedulla baldosa KINDERGARTEN ENGLISH 8 USEFUL INFORMATION School Calendar The communal kindergartens operate 10 months a year, from September to June; 5 days a week, from Monday to Friday. For the children enrolled for the very fist time in the kindergarten, the parents would agree with the teachers upon the date the child will start attending the kindergarten and the level of the education. The kindergartens will remain close on holidays duration for Christmas, Easter and the other holidays provided by the school calendar. Enrollments, admissions, withdrawals, confirmations or transfers The enrollment applications, the admission declarations of the assigned place and the potential communications of the child’s withdrawal from the kindergarten, will be exclusively presented to: The Enrollment Office “Ufficio Iscrizioni” situated in: Via M. D’Azeglio 2, Ravenna Tel. 0544.482376 / 482232 / 482394 • Fax 0544.482397 e-mail [email protected]. For confirming the presence within the same kindergarten for the next year or for requesting the child’s transfer to another kindergarten, the parents must wait for the application to be handed by the teachers from Kindergarten Services and the application must be filled in and delivered to the teachers not later than on the given date. Fees and payment modalities The attendance fee represents a family’s participation to the service cost. The monthly fee for the communal kindergartens is made out of a fixed fee to which the value of the meals served at the kindergarten will be added. If one or more brothers attend the kindergarten on the same time, the fixed amount for each of them will have a discount of 50%. The payment notification for the monthly fee will be mailed to the home address together with the postal receipt ”bollettino postale”. After the payment of the first month, it is possible to pay the next fee by banking transfer or other options mentioned in the notification. Absences It is pertinent for the parents to immediately inform the teachers if the child is missing from the kindergarten for health reasons or for other exigencies. There is no need for a medial certificate for child's absence because of non-sanitary reasons; it is enough if the family acknowledges the kindergarten teachers. The children missing more than 30 consequent days loose their place in the kindergarten, exempt the special cases that will be documented and valuated by the Kindergarten Services Representative. Educational trips The parents must authorize the kindergarten for their children’s educational trips. The teachers are responsible to ask for the parents’ written acceptance. Empowering for picking up the child at departure from kindergarten When the parents cannot wait for their child at the departure from the kindergarten, they must fill in a power of attorney at the beginning of the year—the power of attorney application can be taken from the kindergarten—whereby a person of age will be authorized to pick up the child. If during the year the parents cannot go and wait to pick up their own child from the kindergarten, they should inform the teachers and authorize in writing a person of age to pick up their child from the kindergarten. Recreation summer centers The recreation summer centers address to all the children that attend the nursery school and the kindergarten, whose parents are busy working during the months of July and August. These recreation centers offer occasions for play and socialization and possibilities to spend days in a pleasant way in a clean and protected environment. These centers operate in some kindergartens from the town, in localities situated near the sea and other ones; being open five days a week between the hours 7.30 and 17.00. A fixed amount is paid in advance for this service and the fee includes the meal serving. The annual decree points out ways of presenting the enrollment applications, that can be presented – as a guideline in April—directly to the teacher or to the enrollment office “Ufficio Iscrizioni”. The absence period must be calculated considering the holidays as well as the Saturdays and Sundays if these days are included in the period of sickness. The validity of the medical certificate is usually for 3 days. If the child has to come back to kindergarten after he had been found with lice or bacteriological meningitis, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis he will be accepted in the kindergarten only by having a medical certificate issued by Community Pediatrics Service “Il Servizio di Pediatria di Comunità” needed for the admission. The Community Pediatrics Service can be found at the locations of the Pediatrics Consulting Rooms belonging to any Town or Village District where you live (the "quarter” you belong to based on your home address or family residence) If the child was missing because he has been found with scab, he will be accepted again in the kindergarten only accompanied by a medical certificate issued by the medical specialist – the dermatologist; the certificate must be presented to the community pediatrician who will issue the medical certificate required for the kindergarten admission. SITUATIONS WHEN THE CHILD CAN BE SENT HOME The teachers can send the children home in the following situations: the child has got fever ( temperature above 38° C ) the child is continuously coughing and/or has breathing difficulties the child has got diarrhea (2 or more watery stools, with bad smell or containing blood or mucosa in the same day) the child throws up (twice or more times in the same day, exempt the case when the throwing-up is provoked by a non-contagious disease or if the child does not present the dehydration risk) the child has got pinkeye/conjunctivitis (at the end of the school schedule) the child is found with lice (at the end of the school schedule) dermal eruptions (at the end of the school schedule) If the child is sent home by the teacher, he can attend the kindergarten again only by presenting a medical certificate even if the absence is for less than 5 days. There is no need for a medical certificate if the child has been sent home for light pains (e.g. headaches, toothache, earache etc) SPECIAL DIETS For the children that have to keep a special diet (for chronic, metabolic illnesses, idiosyncrasies or serious and documented food intolerance, food refusals of a psychological nature etc) there is a need for a medical certificate, issued by the pediatrician and presented to the community doctor “Pediatra di Comunità”, and this certificate will contain all the food the child cannot eat. “Pediatra di comunità” is also responsible for sending a special diet request form to the diet service of the Town Hall and a copy will be issued to the parents to present it to the kindergarten canteen. The suspension of a special diet will take place just in the case the pediatrician who takes care of the child makes a request and sends it to “Pediatra di comunità” In other cases (e.g. gastrointestinal problems in recovery), there is no need for medical certificate for changing the food for a period less than 5 days. It is enough if the parents talk to the kindergarten teach ers who, at their turn, will inform the cooks. The diets for religious reasons do not require any medical certificate neither from the pediatrician, nor the community doctor. The family will inform the teachers about the children’s necessities and the teachers will inform the cooks and the appropriate nutritionist. In case of birthdays or other holidays, the cakes and sweets will be made by the kindergarten kitchen (whenever possible) or will be bought from the confectionery. We advise the purchase of simple sweets, not very elaborated, without colorful decorations, essences, creams, whipped cream). THE USE OF MEDICINES INSIDE THE KINDERGARTEN In order for the teachers to give the children medicines for fever or an analgesic for the pains, the parents will sign a written permit and will give it to the teacher. The medicines must not be given in the kindergarten, unless authorized by the community pediatricians; the permit will be issued on parents' request and it will be presented to the community pediatrician together with the whole sanitary documentation, necessary for the case evaluation.
