Curriculum vitae of professor Ferrari Giancarlo (English version) Academic Position: Full Professor of Internal Combustion Engines Contacts: •Address: Campus Bovisa – Via Lambruschini, 4 – 20156 - Milano •Phone: +39-02-2399.3915 •Fax: +39-02-2399.3913 •Web Site: www.engines.polimi.it •Email: [email protected] Education: Master degree in mechanical engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 1965 Teaching Assignments: Motori a combustione interna LM Combustion: theory and applications Academic career and appointments: - Associate Professor at Politecnico di Milano in 1972 - Full Professor of Internal Combustion Engines in 1980. -Director of Energetica Department in the years 1993-96 Research activity He is a senior researcher of the Internal Combustion Engine Group (ICE Group) at the Dipartimento di Energia of Politecnico di Milano. In the ICE Group six faculty members, plus several nonpermanent Researchers (Graduate Research Assistants, Ph.D. students and Post-Docs) work together for research projects, advise graduate students, teach courses and write technical/scientific papers and textbooks based on their activities. The group activities focus on the study of combustion, internal combustion engines and energy systems. In these fields fundamental research is carried out, involving: gas dynamics, combustion and pollutant emissions, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, sprays, chemical kinetics, noise reduction. Developed models are implemented in advanced one-dimensional (GASDYN) and multidimensional (LibICE under the OpenFOAM(R) technology) fluid dynamic numerical codes for the finite volume solution of complex flow problems. Set up codes and libraries are applied to improve the understanding of physical phenomena and to guide the experimental activity of engine designers towards promising configurations, in order to shorten optimization, development and prototyping times of new units. The mission of the ICE Group is to offer to industry and research labs an excellent chance to participate in original, leveraged research in focused thrust areas, and to provide students and young graduates with significant educational opportunities for their forthcoming professional career.
