La Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro ha conquistato otto punti nel Gran Premio del Giappone, grazie al terzo posto di Kimi
Raikkonen e al settimo di Felipe Massa. Grazie a questo risultato la Ferrari ha riconquistato il comando nella
classifica Costruttori mentre Felipe ha ridotto a cinque le lunghezze di ritardo dal leader nel campionato Piloti.
Stefano Domenicali: “Una gara dal sapore dolceamaro questa del Fuji. Da una parte c’è il rammarico per non aver
potuto sfruttare il grande potenziale a disposizione: oggi abbiamo avuto la conferma che in questo fine settimana
avevamo le carte in regola per fare il pieno. Per un motivo o per l’altro – dalla qualifica non ottimale di ieri al caos
della partenza di oggi – non ci siamo riusciti. Dall’altra c’è la soddisfazione per aver ripreso il comando della
classifica Costruttori e per il piccolo recupero fatto da Felipe in quella Piloti. Proprio il brasiliano oggi ha fatto una
corsa straordinaria: un ritmo incredibile, dei sorpassi bellissimi, una grande maturità. Kimi ha fatto una buona gara,
conquistando un bel terzo posto che gli permette di interrompere una striscia negativa ormai troppo lunga e di
portare a casa punti importanti per la squadra. La sua macchina non era perfettamente a posto dopo l’urto con una
McLaren alla prima curva e poi si è quasi sempre trovato a lottare nel traffico: proprio un doppiaggio nel momento
cruciale prima della seconda sosta gli ha fatto perdere la possibilità di rientrare in pista secondo. Voglio fare i
complimenti a tutti i ragazzi del pit-stop: dopo quello che era successo a Singapore oggi avevano indubbiamente
tanta pressione addosso ma hanno fatto un buon lavoro. Ora andiamo subito a Shanghai per il Gran Premio della
Cina. Il nostro obiettivo rimane immutato: continuare a lavorare con impegno e determinazione per ottenere il
massimo risultato possibile.”
Felipe Massa: “E’ stata una gara molto strana per tutto quello che è successo in pista. Alla fine, il settimo posto non
è certo un disastro, considerato che il mio avversario diretto non ha preso punti. Alla partenza ero scattato bene e
avevo superato sia Alonso che Kovalainen: poi Hamilton ha frenato oltre il limite e mi sono ritrovato preso in
sandwich con due macchine all’interno e una all’esterno e non ho potuto far altro che frenare e restare indietro.
Penso che il successivo duello con Hamilton sia stato duro ma non scorretto: il drive-through è stato molto
penalizzante per la mia corsa. Nella seconda parte, con le gomme dure la macchina volava, il che mi incoraggia
molto per le prossime gare. Quanto all’incidente con Bourdais, credo che ci sia poco da dire: avevo già impostato la
curva e lui mi ha toccato da dietro facendomi girare. Nel duello con Webber ho visto uno spazio all’interno e mi ci
sono buttato: lui mi ha spinto un po’ verso il muro e forse chi lo ha visto da fuori si è un po’ impressionato ma non è
stato così dall’abitacolo. Del resto, era un momento molto importante della gara e ci dovevo provare. Ora dobbiamo
dare tutto nelle prossime due gare: abbiamo un grande potenziale a disposizione e dobbiamo fare in modo di
sfruttarlo.”
Kimi Raikkonen: “Nonostante il terzo posto abbia posto fine ad una serie di risultati negativi, sono un po’ deluso
perché oggi avevamo la possibilità di vincere. Alla partenza ero scattato bene ma poi alla prima curva le due
McLaren sono arrivate troppo forte alla staccata e mi hanno impedito di impostare la traiettoria portandomi fuori
pista. Così ho perso tanto terreno e mi sono ritrovato in mezzo al gruppo. Inoltre, la macchina non era totalmente a
posto dopo che era stata colpita da una delle McLaren: lo sterzo era un po’ leggero e c’erano anche altri danni. Ho
cercato di fare il massimo ma non eravamo veloci quanto speravamo, soprattutto nella seconda porzione di gara.
Prima della seconda sosta mi sono riavvicinato a Kubica ma non sono riuscito a passarlo al pit-stop perché nel giro
di rientro mi sono ritrovato dietro Rosberg, doppiato. Poi ho cercato più volte di attaccare Robert ma lui si è difeso
molto bene. Ad un certo punto mi sono ritrovato anche leggermente davanti nell’entrata della curva 3 ma ero
all’esterno e lui non ha mollato la linea così sono dovuto uscire fuori pista. In seguito ho avuto un po’ di graining e
così non sono riuscito a rifarmi sotto. In ogni caso, sono contento di aver portato a casa dei punti importanti per la
squadra.”
Luca Baldisserri: “Una gara senza dubbio difficile, caratterizzata in negativo da quanto accaduto alla partenza.
Peccato, perché avevamo un grande potenziale a disposizione, come si è visto durante lo svolgimento della corsa.
In particolare, Felipe ha fatto una bellissima prestazione, girando su tempi incredibili. Kimi ha fatto la sua corsa ma si
è trovato un po’ in difficoltà nella seconda porzione di gara, non riuscendo a rimanere nella scia di Kubica. Sarebbe
comunque probabilmente riuscito a superarlo al pit-stop se non avesse trovato del traffico nel giro di rientro: i suoi
sei punti sono comunque molto importanti per la classifica Costruttori. La F2008 si è dimostrata molto competitiva su
questo tracciato e penso che lo saremo anche in Cina. Nelle due gare che restano ci giocheremo tutto.”

Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro scored eight points in the Japanese Grand Prix, thanks to a third place for Kimi Raikkonen and
a seventh for Felipe Massa. With this result, Ferrari has retaken the lead in the Constructors’ classification, while Felipe
has reduced the gap to the leader of the Drivers’ championship to five points.
Stefano Domenicali: “A bitter sweet taste after this race in Fuji. On the one hand is the regret at not having been able to
exploit our great potential: today we saw that this weekend we had everything in place to come away with everything.
For one reason or another, from the less than perfect qualifying yesterday, to the chaos at the start today, we never
managed it. On the other hand there is satisfaction from retaking the lead in the Constructors’ classification and for the
slight gain made by Felipe in the Drivers’. Today, our Brazilian drove an amazing race, with an incredible climb up the
order, some great passing moves, showing great maturity. Kimi drove a good race, taking a nice third place which puts an
end to a bad run for him which had been going on too long, and brings home important points for the team. His car was
not quite right after the collision with a McLaren at the first corner and then he was nearly always having to fight in
traffic. Indeed, a backmarker at the crucial moment before his second stop meant he lost the chance to rejoin the track in
second place. I want to congratulate all the guys in the pit crew. After what happened in Singapore they were definitely
under pressure but they worked very well. Now we head immediately for Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix. Our aim
remains the same: we will continue to work hard and with determination to get the best possible result.”
Felipe Massa: “A strange race with everything that happened on track. In the end, seventh place is definitely not a
disaster given that my closest rival failed to score points. At the start, I got away well and had passed Alonso and
Kovalainen. Then Hamilton braked over the limit and I found myself sandwiched between one car on the inside and one
on the outside and all I could do was brake and stay behind. I think the duel that followed with Hamilton was hard but
fair and the drive-through really penalized my race. In the second part, on the hard tyres, the car was flying, which is very
encouraging for the next races. As for the incident with Bourdais, I think there’s little to say: I had already entered the
turn and he hit me from behind, spinning me round. In the duel with Webber I saw a space down the inside and went for
it. He moved over on me a little bit towards the wall which might have looked a bit scary but it was not like that from the
cockpit. Anyway, it was a very important moment in the race and I had to try. Now we will give it our all in the next two
races. We have great potential available to us and we must do all we can to exploit it.”
Kimi Raikkonen: “Even if third place has put an end to a run of poor results, I am a bit disappointed because today we
had the means to win. At the start, I got away well but then, at the first corner, the two McLarens arrived too fast at the
braking point and prevented me from turning in, taking me off the track. That lost me a lot of ground and I found myself
in the middle of the pack. On top of that, the car was not quite right as I was hit by one of the McLarens: the steering was
a bit light and there was other damage as well. I tried to do the best I could but I was not as quick as I’d hoped, especially
in the second stint. Before the second stop, I closed on Kubica but I couldn’t pass him in the pit stop because on my in lap
I found myself behind Rosberg a lap down. Then I tried several times to attack Robert but he defended his position well.
At one point, I did find myself slightly ahead of him going into turn 3, but I was on the outside and he did not give up the
line so I had to go off the track. After that, I had a bit of graining and so I was not able to catch up again. In any case, I
am happy to have brought home important points for the team.”
Luca Baldisserri: “Definitely a difficult race, affected by what went wrong at the start. A shame as we had a great
potential, as we went on to demonstrate during the race. In particular, Felipe put on a great performance, with incredible
lap times. Kimi did his own race but was struggling a bit in the second stint, unable to stick with Kubica. He would
however, possibly have managed to pass him at the pit stop, if he had not got stuck in traffic on his in lap. His six points
are still very important for the Constructors’ classification. The F2008 proved to be very competitive at this track and I
think that will also be the case in China. We will give it our all for the final two races.”
