Research interests and activities
Research activities have been carried out in the field of operations management, concerning both
manufacturing (enterprise modeling and engineering, agent-based manufacturing systems, emarketplace design, negotiation in electronic commerce) and product development (methodological
and technological innovation in product development, design coordination, product architecture
design, business impact of new product development practice).
Such activities have mostly been performed within basic and applied research projects, both at
national and European level. Research has led to the authoring or co-authoring of more than seventy
scientific papers, of which eighteen have been published in international refereed journals (see list
in appendix).
Other academic and professional activities
− Member of INFORMS since 1996 and of AITEM since 1995.
− Member of the Management Board of the Design Society (www.designsociety.org) from 2000
to 2005. Serving on the Advisory Board of the same society since 2005.
− Member of the Editorial board of the Journal of Engineering Design since 2003.
− Has reviewed papers for Computers in Industry, the European Journal of Operational
Research, Research in Engineering Design, Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing,
Production Planning and Control, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.
− Has served on the Scientific Board of the ESPRIT Networks of Excellence ICIMS and IIMB
(1996-1999).
− Member of the Advisory Board of the “Franco Momigliano” Laboratory of Economics of
Innnovation, Fondazione Rosselli since 2004.
− Member of the Scientific Board of the book series “Percorsi di Ricerca”, Franco Angeli
Publishing Company, since 2005.
− Has served on the Scientific Boards of the DESIGN2002, DESIGN2004, DESIGN2006,
ICED99, ICED01, ICED03, ICED05 and IDMME06 conferences.
− Listed on the Italian directory of reviewers for industrial R&D projects since 2002; more than
55 million of projects worth have been reviewed and are being audited,
− Has reviewed project proposals for the EPSRC (United Kingdom Engineering and Physical
Sciences Research Council) Integrated Design and Manufacture Programme since 2002.
− In charge of tutoring activities in the yearly start-up competition of the Incubator of the
Politecnico di Torino, and member of the awarding committee since 2005.
− Has cooperated with the EU Commission’s “Internal Market” D.G. for a study on the “Analysis
of the Economic Impact of the Development Risk Clause as provided by Directive 85/374/EEC
on Liability for Defective Products” and – since 2004 – has served on the Working group
assisting in the review of the same Directive.
− Director (member of the Board of Management) and Chairman of the Scientific Board of
Tecnoparco del Lago Maggiore S.p.A. since 2006.
