BIOGRAPHIE

Né à Stavropol, URSS le 1 Janvier 1948.
Le Professeur Karpov est chef du département d’Histoire du Moyen-Age et Doyen du Faculté
d’histoire de l’Université M.V. Lomonosov de Moscou depuis sa première nomination en
1995, son mandat a été reconduit en 2000, 2005 et en 2010.
Il obtient son doctorat de l’Université de Moscou en 1974 après 8 ans de recherches
doctorales ainsi que son habilitation la même année.
En 1992, il est élu membre de l’Académie russe de Sciences naturelles (Section
Encyclopédie) et élu au titre de Président de l’Association russe des médiévistes.
En 2008, parallèlement à ses travaux de recherches et d’homme Universitaire il devient
président du Comité national russe des Byzantinistes.
Au cours de ses recherches il a exploré des thèmes divers et variés et enseigné de multiples

modules tels que : L’histoire du moyen âge, Sources de l’histoire du moyen âge, 12 -15e
siècles, Introduction aux études byzantines, Mer Noire au Moyen âge, Méthodologie d’histoire
e
e
médiéval et instruments de recherche, Commerce italien au bords de la Mer Noire, 13 -15
siècles.
Il a également enseigné à l’international, tenu des conférences et des séminaires dans les
Universités et les écoles spécialisés de Gênes, Venise, Erice, Paris I, Montpellier, Athènes,
Thessalonique, Nicosie, Séoul, Pékin, Budapest (CEU), Belgrade, Sofia.
