Antiche testimonianze risalenti al tempo dei Greci dimostrano che allora si utilizzavano ingranaggi sia in legno che in W ith this issue, we begin publication of complete parts from t h e G E A R M O TO R H A N D BOOK This handbook is designed to help customers and gear specialists have the appropriate technical information in re g a rd t o t h e g e a r p ro d u c t s now available at Bonfiglioli Riduttori. Several kinds of gear units are in high volume production and Bonfiglioli serves a rapidly growing, world wide market. This technical handbook is intended to be broadly useful to those involved with geared machinery. Those concerned with gearing need to have some background on the generalities of gear manufacture. This involves the history of technology and manufacture of gears. These items will be discussed briefly in this introduction before getting into specific comments on the Bonfiglioli organisation and the contents of this handbook. 1.1 History of the Art of Gear Making Gears are about as old as any machinery of mankind. As far as we know, the only “machine” that is older is the potter’s wheel. At some time over 3000 years ago, primitive gears first meshed with each other and trans m i t t e d ro t a r y m o t i o n . Greece shows that both wooden and metal gears were used. The later Roman Empire used wooden gears in grist mills and metal gears in many small devices. An outline of the history of gears up to the 20th century is given below. 1-Già gli antichi Cinesi utilizzavano gli ingranaggi 1.
