LA VIA DEI PESCATORI
La storia di una città sta scritta nella storia
delle sue mura o delle sue vie.
Via Nassa è certo una di queste e non c’è
racconto sulla Città di Lugano che non
debba, per una delle tante ragioni,farvi
riferimento: è la via commerciale più
importante di Lugano, è stata la via
delle botteghe degli artigiani, la via dei
pescatori, l’asse di comunicazione e di
accesso alla vecchia Città.
Il nome di “Nassa” è connesso all’idea
di “acqua” e, dato che era qui che i
pescatori solevano distendere le loro
reti e indubbiamente sbarcavano il
pesce e lo vendevano, deve perciò significare appunto “Via della Pescheria ”.

Die Geschichte einer Stadt steht in der Geschichte
ihrer Stadtmauer oder in ihren Straßen geschrieben.
Via Nassa gehört sicher zu diesen Straßen, und es
gibt keine Erzählung über die Stadt Lugano, in der
sie nicht aus irgendeinem Grund genannt wird: sie
ist Luganos wichtigste Geschäftsstraße, sie war die
Straße der Handwerker und ihrer Läden, die
Straße der Fischer, die Hauptverbindungssachse
und die Zufahrt zur Altstadt.
Der Name „Nassa” hängt mit dem „Wasser” zusammen. Da die Fischer hier ihre Netze ausbreiteten und zweifellos den Fisch ausluden und
verkauften, bedeutet dieser Name eben „Straße
der Fischer”.
LA RUE DES PÊCHEURS
L’histoire d’une ville est inscrite dans ses murs et dans
ses rues.
La rue Nassa est de toute évidence l’une de ces rues, et
il n’existe pas une histoire sur la ville de Lugano qui
ne s’y réfère, pour une raison ou une autre. c’est la rue
commerçante la plus importante de Lugano, c’était
la rue où les artisans avaient leurs boutiques, la rue
des pêcheurs, la voie de communication et d’accès à la
vieille ville.
Le nom de “Nassa” est lié à l’idée d’ “eau” et, du fait
que c’était l’endroit où les pêcheurs étendaient
leurs filets, où ils débarquaient et vendaient leur
poisson, cela doit probablement signifier “Rue de
la Poissonnerie ”.
THE STREET OF FISHERMEN
A city’s history is inscribed in the history of its walls
or its streets.
Via Nassa is undoubtedly an important street in
Lugano, and there isn’t a single story about the city
that can be told without mentioning it for some reason or other. It is Lugano’s most important commercial street: historically, it was the street where the artisans’ workshops were located, the fishermen’s
street, the main thoroughfare and street providing
access to the old city.
The name “Nassa” is connected to the idea of “water” and, since it was here that fishermen used to
spread out their nets and undoubtedly offload the
day’s catch and then sell it, the word must therefore mean “Fish Market Street”.

LA VIA DELL’ARTE
Entrata nella storia nel X secolo,
Lugano e di conseguenza Via Nassa,
entrarono da subito nell’orbita degli
interessi politici e religiosi dei vescovi
di Como i quali avevano l’effettiva
signoria su tutto il Luganese.
Una prova tangibile di quell’influenza è
data dal fatto che nel 1440, frati
dell’Ordine degli Osservanti venuti
forse da Como, vi edificarono una loro
chiesa ed un convento: la Chiesa degli
Angeli. Nel 1499 Lugano fu invasa dai
Francesi. Nel 1513 con la resa dei
Francesi al Castello di Lugano, tutte le
terre diventano sudditanze dei Capitani
Reggenti svizzeri i quali, fino al 1798
promosserro il mantenimento dell’architettura ad archi della Via Nassa
preservandone così la sua fisionomia
medievale fino ai giorni nostri.

Nach dem ersten geschichtlichen Auftritt von Lugano
im 10. Jh. gerät auch die Via Nassa bald in den
BlickwinkelderpolitischenundreligiösenInteressender
Bischöfe von Como, deren tatsächlicher Herrschaftdas
gesamteGebietumLuganounterlag.
EingreifbarerBeweisfürdiesenEinflussistdieTatsache,
dass Mönche aus dem Orden der Observanten, die möglicherweiseausComokamen,imJahr1440hiereineeigene Kirche und ein Kloster errichteten: S. Maria degli
Angioli; 1499 wurde Lugano von den Franzosen besetzt. Im Jahr 1513 unterwarfen sich die Franzosen der

Entrée dans l’histoire au Xème siècle, Lugano, et
donc la Via Nassa, devinrent aussitôt un centre
d’intérêt politique et religieux pour les évêques de
Côme, lesquels étaient les véritables seigneurs de
toute la région de Lugano.
Une preuve tangible de cette influence est qu’en 1440
des frères de l’Ordre des Observants, venus peutêtre de Côme, y édifièrent une église et un couvent:
l’Église des Anges. En 1499 Lugano fut envahie par
les Français. En 1513 avec la capitulation des
Français au Château de Lugano, toutes les terres devinrent sujettes des Capitaines Régents suisses lesquels, jusqu’en 1798, assurèrent le maintien de
l’architecture en arcs de la Via Nassa, préservant
ainsi sa physionomie médiévale jusqu’à aujourd’hui.
From the 10th century onwards, Lugano and, with
it, Via Nassa, immediately entered into the range of
political and religious interests of the Bishops of
Como, who effectively had control of the entire
Lugano area.
Tangible evidence of that influence lies in the fact that
in 1440 monks from the Order of the Observants came to the city, perhaps from Como, and built a church and a monastery: the Chiesa degli Angeli, or
“Church of the Angels”. The French invaded
Lugano in 1499. In 1513, when the French surrendered at the Castle of Lugano, all the land became property of the Swiss Captains Regent who, until 1798,
promoted the maintenance of the architecture and
arches of Via Nassa. As a result, its medieval appearance has been preserved right up to the present day.

Una delle attrattive più particolari di Via
Nassa è rappresentata dai portici che da
sempre offrono riparo ai visitatori.
Salvo che per brevi tratti questi portici
non sono monumentali ma risentono
della civiltà contadina e di pescatori che
ha permeato l’area per secoli.
Analizzandone l’architettura viene
spontaneamente da chiedersi quali
furono le regole che hanno guidato la
mano di chi li ha costruiti.
Probabilmente nessuna: erano così abili
da poter inventare lì per lì e quello che
ci hanno lasciato è una splendida ed
inimitabile eredità.

Eine der außergewöhnlichsten Attraktionen der Via
Nassa sind die Arkaden, die den Besuchern schon seit
jeher Schutz bieten.
Abgesehen von einzelnen Abschnitten sind diese
Arkadennichtgroßartigundmonumental.Vielmehr
erinnern sie an die Kultur der Bauern und Fischer, die
dieses Viertel jahrhundertlang geprägt haben.
Betrachtet man die Architektur, liegt die Frage nahe,
welche Regeln die Erbauer dieser Häuser leiteten.

L’une des attractions les plus pittoresques de la Via
Nassa est représentée par les portiques qui offrent depuis toujours un abri aux visiteurs.
Ces portiques ne sont pas des monuments imposants,
à part sur de courts segments, ils évoquent plutôt la
culture des paysans et des pêcheurs qui a imprégné le
quartier pendant des siècles.
Lorsqu’on observe cette architecture, on se demande
aussitôt quelles règles ont bien pu guider la main des
bâtisseurs.
Probablement aucune : ils étaient tellement habiles
qu’ils les ont sans doute construits spontanément,
