Applications are being accepted for a full time Internal Medicine consultant within the Medical Department
at Akureyri Hospital, Iceland. Responsibilities include taking care of both in- and outpatients as well as
participation in teaching health professionals. Working on shifts is required. The consultant is accountable
to the Director of the Department of Internal Medicine. The Medical Department is the regional centre of
the North and East of Iceland. The Department is well equipped. There is close connection with the
Radiology and Pathology Departments. Closing date for application is the 1st of December 2010 and the
position is available from the 15th of December 2010 or at another negotiable date. Applicants are invited

Icelandic Medical Association and the Treasury. Travel expenses will be paid and assistance provided with
accommodation and Icelandic lessons. The department seeks an individual with skills in most aspects of
internal medicine. The applicant must possess initiative, good communication skills and willingness to cooperate. Applicants are required to hold a specialist qualification that is registrable in Iceland and
preferably with certification in some of the subspecialties, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Infectious disease
or Nephrology. Ability to understand, speak and write English is necessary and willingness to learn
Icelandic. Akureyri (www.akureyri.is ), Iceland, which is the second largest town in Iceland, is a
picturesque European town, surrounded by snow capped-mountains. For the sport and outdoor enthusiast
the region offers many attractions including the northernmost golf course in the world, the ski capital of
Iceland, the Northern lights, mountain climbing and glacier exploration, premier fishing, sailing, hiking,
horseback riding and bird watching.
