MILLE MIGLIA 2016: ANDREA VESCO AND ANDREA GUERINI WIN Record numbers at the thirty-fourth Mille Miglia race: 450 vintage cars, 900 participants, more than 230 towns along the four-day race course Covered by 1,800 accredited media representatives, 200 more than in 2015 race Brescia, 22 May 2016 – Andrea Vesco and Andrea Guerini with 51,542 points, at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Zagato made in 1931, are the winners of Mille Miglia 2016, the most famous road race of all time, which ended today at the finish line on Viale Venezia in Brescia. Along 1800 km of roads, Vesco and Guerini positioned themselves in front in the thirty-fourth Freccia Rossa event, ahead of Luca Patron and Elena Scaramuzzi, in second place in the category, in an O.M. 665 Superba Sport 2000 CC from 1926, with 50,088 points, and Giordano Mozzi and Stefania Biacca, who placed third in an Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Gran Sport from 1933, with 49,262 points. “After placing second in the previous race, stated winners Vesco and Guarini, this year we succeeded in obtaining a victory. It is the law of large numbers and it had to happen sooner or later; we were skilled and lucky, including because of the automobile, which never gave us the slightest problem. It was a phenomenal race.” The special category, reserved for entirely female crews, was won by Silvia Marini and Saskia Stoeckkelmann in a Riley 12/4 Sprite from 1936 who were awarded the Women’s Cup. They were in advance of the female teams of Loes and Annemarie Van De Velve, in second place in the category, in a Lagonda M 45 Rapide and ahead of two professional German drivers, Susie Wolfe and Ellen Lohr, who placed third in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. “Again this year, the fans followed Mille Miglia with enthusiasm and affection, not only in the beginning and ending cities along the way but all along the race course, where we saw many people of all ages waiting for the cars to go by”, stated Aldo Bonomi, President of 1.000 Miglia S.r.l. The success of this event is the reward for all the hard work and efforts of our organisation, a complex undertaking that involved thousands of people”. “This year, too, Mille Miglia racked up record numbers, stated Andrea Dalledonne, CEO of 1000 Miglia S.r.l. In fact, the race ran through 230 towns, 2,500 people were involved in the event production, 900 participants from 38 nations, 450 vehicles were in the race from 71 car manufacturers, 65 vehicles participated in the Ferrari Tribute to Mille Miglia and 60 cars were in the Mercedes-Benz Challenge to Mille Miglia, 1,800 credentialed media representatives were on hand, and about 4,000 hotel rooms were reserved during the days of the race.” The race began in Brescia and involved four legs: the first was Thursday, 19 May, with arrival in Rimini. The second leg included Rome on Friday, 20 May. On Saturday, 21 May, the Freccia Rossa reached Parma, the third stop on the 2016 race course of the famous Mille Miglia. Today, Sunday, 22 May, upon arrival in Brescia after the fourth leg, the chequered flag finally was waved for 450 classic automobiles.
