PETER LIPPMANN SUBVERTISES OLD
MASTERS AND NEW MISTRESSES,
WITH CLASS
The US photographer handles Laboutin’s campaigns by staging elegant but unlikely
incursions into the history of art
PARIS
Peter Lippmann’s photographic campaigns for the famed Laboutin brand are authentic
works of art. For six years, their creator – a highly successful fashion photographer who
collaborates with all the top international magazines – has renewed his collaboration with
the French footwear maison, a global luxury icon. Over this period Lippmann has
composed a series of subverted timeless images in which Laboutin’s shoes and
handbags have been masterfully smuggled inside portraits, still lifes and bucolic scenes
in the Flemish, Impressionist or Renaissance styles. This does not involve parodying great
art, rather introducing contemporary aesthetic fashion objects into anachronistic style
memes which reinterpret them in a new perspective… the quality of his own and
Laboutin’s arts combining to transcend the barriers of time and interact with other artists.
