Then, to be honest, she has done more miles in a year than a normal driver would do in 2 racing seasons... But the fact is that Visser wins the final on a weekend that was quite uphill, where she was excluded from a qualifier for an irregularity due to an oversight. In the heats she shows incredible stubbornness making a comeback despite another penalty in the pre-final, finishing eighth behind [6] Ghidella (DR/Maranello). In the final, in fact, she takes the lead, and then was overtaken by Marco Zanchetta (CKR/TM) but on the next corner the flying dutchgirl overtakes him without mercy and goes on to win the race. The 4 © FotoFormulaK.com others were only left with small parts in Visser’s highly entertaining show, Zanchetta included who, after a weekend at the top and 1st place in the pre-final, falls apart in the final after being overtaken by Visser. Alberto Cavalieri (Tony Kart/Vortex) gave a good performance, who from his “privateer” position, climbs onto the podium in the final after starting in tenth position. Then we have [4] Simone Brenna (TB Kart/TM) [1] Federico Miccoli (Intrepid/TM) and [2] Marco Pastacaldi (Birel/ TM) who did well and are always high in the rankings. However, [3] Francesco 5 © Sport in Photo Celenta (Intrepid/TM) very fast, Alessandro Fabiani (Kosmic/Vortex), who lost it in the pre-final, like Flavio Sani (Birel/TM) in the final, [5] Massimo Aceto (All Kart/TM) eighth and tenth in the heats but then he fell behind the hot zone of the race and Andrea Spagni (Tony Kart/TM) all saw a downward trend in performance. It’s his stubbornness in pursuing the result that this time makes a difference, as shown by the fact that Giovinazzi, at some point in the final, is not even the fastest on the track, and the best lap in the pre-final and final were clocked by Max KlinkbySilver (Tony Kart/Vortex). But the one to bring home the booty is the Comer Kart driver, who wins the first round of the Master Series with a determination that we know he has and after a duel with Klinkby-Silver. The gap of just 2/10 of a second at the finish proves how close the final was, with several exchanges of positions before Giovinazzi, good at not committing errors, was able to celebrate his first international win in KF2. Klinkby-Silver has to “settle” for another second place which does not satisfy him after 4 © FotoFormulaK.com the top times he clocks on the track and after the pole position in the qualifiers. Chris Lock (Tony Kart/Vortex) is also in top form with 2 third places, though, to be honest, we expected something more from the Tony Kart Junior Racing Team driver, given the experience of the Brit. The same goes for [1] Gilbert Mitchell (Kosmic/Vortex) who is racing for the Olivier Marechal factory team and finishes fifth behind a good [4] Thomas Jager (Birel/BMB) and [3] Jordan King (Birel/BMB), tenth in the final after finishing fifth © Press.net 5 in the pre-final. But this was not the only first time: Mini 60 category, in fact, made its debut on the WSK circus. A debut topped by a record: it was, in fact, the category with the largest number of different nations represented at the start (an incredible 23). A starting grid so varied that the other categories were in the shadows. The KF3 is the only one to keep up with drivers from 20 different countries, while in KF2 and KZ2 there were “only” (so to speak) respectively 12 and 5 nations represented. And in all the categories were 35 the countries in the track. The Mini 60, though it is a national competition (hence subject to Italian Federation regulations) is open to international participation. Foreign drivers who, as seen in the figures, did not wait to be begged to travel and compete in the event, boosting the level and reputation of the competition itself. The represented countries included Turkey, Canada, Malaysia, Australia, Venezuela, as well as almost all European countries like Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Ireland, France, Holland, Poland, Slovakia, Greece and Turkey to name a few. And as if that were not enough, this category showed its ‘weight’ with the number of registrations it generated. The Entry List of the Mini 60 in Siena, in fact, is just slightly lower than for the KF3: 70 drivers compared to the 72 drivers in the KF3. Figures which, during the first race in Siena, were found to be equal when the actual head count was performed: in actual fact, there were 66 drivers on the starting grid for both categories. 132 young kart drivers who were the heart and soul of this event in Siena, considering also the figures for the KZ2 (32 drivers) and KF2 (47): considerable figures, the latter, if assessed as absolute numbers, but less significant when compared with the “small/large outputs” of the Mini 60 and KF3. Another figure (again referred to the finals of the WSK Masters Series) which, however, the Mini 60 has no say in relation to other categories is, obviously, that of the best lap times. There is no comparison: the geared KZ karts are about 9 seconds faster on each lap. In short, the introduction of this category in the WSK events has one explanation: to focus more on youths as a resource for the present and, above all, for the future. Back in 2007, the WSK boss Luca De Donno, had already organised a competition for the 60 youths, namely the “Euro Trophy by 60” showing that this subject had been in the pipeline for some time. He now proposes this challenge which was accepted by so many youths at the first event that have already confirmed their presence at future races. And there is also another interpretation to consider: there are not only privateers but also many teams who turned up at the WSK paddock with their drivers and their facilities, ready to join the battle. So, WSK is now ready to play and offer opportunities to drivers who are under 13 years of age, who can now participate in top level competitions, organised over three rounds, and in a context that also includes the presence of the more experienced drivers from whom they can “steal” some secrets, or simply watch them perform on the track, enjoying the entertainment karting has to offer. The WSK show goes on. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Round 1I G // ARRIVANO I 60 youth. The representatives of the “fairer sex”, however, looked at the dark glasses worn by Rocco Siffredi, an actor in “adult films” with undeniable charm. He was on the track to accompany his two karting driver sons, and chatted amicably with others in the paddock, talking of how the racing world attracted him: “Some enthusiasts are really crazy.
