First I want to thank Ken deRussy for donating equipment for our Internet
Café! We now have two PCs available to residents and their families, as
well as a WiFi hotspot to support anyone wanting to get online with their
laptop or iPad (yes – we have an iPad group!). Ken even offers free
lessons for those wanting to learn!
A few weeks ago we wrapped up our 2nd Chandler‟s Square Olympics. We
split our entire community into 10 teams representing 10 countries, and
they spent a week battling it out in ring toss, darts, bowling, shuffleboard,
trivia contests, hall walking (some residents walked over 6 miles!),
crossword puzzles, bean bag tossing, putt-putt golf, basketball tossing,
horseshoe tossing, and glider throwing. Whew! In short – something for
everyone! Points were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and residents
earned points for their country just for participating as well. Competition
was widespread and fierce, and the three winning teams wills soon be
treated to a catered lunch from Deception Café and Grill.
The month before that we had a building-wide putt-putt tournament
(complete with hotdogs and beers at the turn) with some “unique” holes (eg.
For #4 (par 5) you had to ricochet a putt in to an elevator, descend a floor,
and putt out to the green…) and in April we will be hosting a pool
tournament (our table is seeing a lot of action recently!).
All this is in addition to our “normal” activities program of Bridge, Pinochle,
Texas Hold-em, Mexican Train Dominoes, Bingo, Shopping trips, Craft
workshops, three different exercise classes, and now internet surfing, as
well as our weekly Happy Hour! Soon the weather will turn nice and we
can add outside trips and picnics to the list! If you want to follow along take
a look at our website (wwww.ChandlerSquare.com) and look for both this
newsletter as well as the Activities Calendar - now posted online for your
convenience!

Some of our ideas are: Ferry Rides, Lunch trip to Friday Harbor, exploring Samish Island,

ACTIVITIES DEPT
CALL TO FAMILY & FRIENDS The Activities Department needs your help! We are wanting to invite family &
friends of our residents to our special activities, which we hold approximately 2-3
times per year. We often have some fun theme weeks and parties!
So we have a Special Request....
If someone in your family would serve as our email contact, we would like to send
email announcements & invites to this person, who would then be able to share it
with the rest of your family. Our plan is to have a contact for every resident! And
know that we will not use this address for any other reason!
Please send an email to: „[email protected]‟ and tell us:

WELCOME TO APRIL!
So as the saying goes...April Showers Bring May Flowers
I have been waiting, rather impatiently, for our weather to become more ―spring like‖
so I can wander the grounds around Chandler‘s Square and see how gorgeous all of
our new landscaping is going to look this year. I am equally excited to have the
outdoor furniture come out of storage and have the new patios and beautiful
courtyard ready for our residents to use. We have so many charming new outdoor
spaces for everyone to relax in and soak up the sun. Ohhh the renewal of life after the
long winter months comes with more excitement than usual this year with all of these
wonderful new spaces for everyone to enjoy!
Along with these new spaces we also have several new residents to Welcome...allow
me to introduce them to you!
Norma Bueche joined our Chandler‘s Square Family on March 2nd, in Apt.104. Norma
is quite the character. She has a great sense of humor. She says that she is loving the
food here. But Happy Hour is her favorite activity!
Ted and Irene Nibarger joined our Chandler‘s Square Family on March 14th, in
Apt.105. They are still getting used to living in a community setting but are realizing
the benefits of delicious prepared meals, caring staff, and ease of life that we offer.
Lorraine Patmore joined our Chandler‘s Square Family on March 17th, in Apt.145.
Lorraine could not get moved in fast enough. She has several friends who already live
at Chandler‘s and is so excited to just be able to leave the chores up to us and so she
could enjoy all of her volunteering commitments throughout our beautiful Anacortes
community.
Wallie Funk joined our Chandler‘s Square Family on March 23rd, in Apt.125. Yes, you
are reading this correctly, moving to Chandler‘s Square was a difficult decision for
Wallie. But he finally decided that being close to town and having all the services and
amenities that we offer was a very good choice for his life at this time and is really
enjoying all the camaraderie with his friends who already live here.
Please stop by and say hello to everyone. The treat will be yours!
Well that is all for this month. Allow me to leave you with this food for thought:
― Friendship is a sheltering tree.‖
Samuel T. Coleridge
