EN C L A S S I C F L O W E R L A B E L Youthful, fresh and intriguing... exceptional wines to inspire imaginative food matches MERLOT The Colli Orientali’s famed white wines rest on their lees for 6-8 months in stainless steel vats. So too the Cabernet Franc, the most herbaceous of all the reds. As for the Merlot & Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, following a brief passage in oak, they will continue to age and mature in the bottle. The Verduzzo Friulano, one of Friuli’s native ‘sweet’ white varietals, is noted for its rustic charm and signature tannin. Friuli Colli Orientali DOC Denominazione di Origine Protetta Hillside Vineyard: Rocca Bernarda Grape: 100% Merlot Ruby Red with Purple rim. Hints of Marasca Cherry & wild Blackberry. Food Matching: Both red & white meats, bean based dishes & semi-mature cheeses. The RODARO Winery was founded in 1846. Today, as the guardian of its 50 hectares of vineyards, Paolo Rodaro (farmer and oenologist), is the 6th generation of the family to carry on the great RODARO wine-making tradition. In Friuli’s eastern hills, nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Julian Alps is where you’ll find the winery and its much cherished terraced vineyards. Planted in the prized local terrain, known as the ‘PONCA’ (a mineral rich, calcareous marl & sandstone formation), this is a land where countless generations, dating back as far as Romans, have dedicated themselves to the cultivation of the vine. It’s no wonder when one also considers this area’s privileged aspect and its warm, well-ventilated microclimate. Such gifts of Nature are priceless ingredients that together combine to create the much sought after minerality and acidity that you will find in each RODARO wine. Very pleasant Aperitif. The RODARO Winery produces an average of 200,000 bottles per vintage. All are single estate wines produced exclusively from grapes hand-harvested from our own vineyards. Our production, which is equally split between White & Red wines, continually seeks to find the balance between wine-making traditions of old and today’s more advanced techniques. Indeed, one of the hallmarks of the RODARO Winery is its dedication to research. In both the vineyard and the cellar, we endeavour to sustain our traditional heart while simultaneously working to break new ground. In every bottle of RODARO, a unique pleasure awaits. MERLOT The ROMAIN label identifies RODARO’s reserve selection of Evolutionary red wines. Paolo Rodaro’s ‘LIMITED EDITION’ wines are the result of years of research and experimentation into the evolutionary potential of Friuli’s Red & White wines. Originating from our prized hillside vineyards, our grapes are bestowed with a unique minerality and acidity, two of the most prized ingredients when producing age-worthy wines of outstanding structure. pas dosè e d i t i o n s CONTIENE SOLFITI · CONTAINS SULPHITES ENTHäLT SULFITE · CONTIENT SULFITES 750 ml 12% vol L. 001/3 MILLESIMATO 2012 ROSÈ · PAS DOSÈ OTTENUTO DA UVE 100% PINOT SPUMANTIZZATO DA RODARO PAOLO CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI · ITALIA PRODOTTO IN ITALIA VINO SPUMANTE DI QUALITÀ CONTIENE SOLFITI · CONTAINS SULPHITES ENTHäLT SULFITE · CONTIENT SULFITES 750 ml 12,5% vol L. 001/4 The technique of additionally ripening these red grapes, firstly on the vine and thereafter in the fruit store, facilitates the later vinification of our ‘ROMAIN’ Reserve Red wines. At the harvest, all these grapes are manually selected and carefully placed into small crates, which then spend an additional period in ambient fruit storage. This is to ensure the required evolution of the grape tannins. When considering this style of vinification, it already presupposes that the harvested grapes are mature, healthy and dry. As such conditions are not always prevalent, it is therefore only in certain vintages that these wines can be produced. As ‘Evolutionary’ Reds, ROMAIN wines display intense bouquets and offer an array of complex flavours that deliver wonderful length and persistence. Truly unforgettable, these are wines that appreciate greatly with the natural passage of time. As for the ROMAIN label itself, remarkably it was designed by Paolo Rodaro’s daughter, Giulia, when she was just 5 years old. It represents a part of the gate that leads into the courtyard at the Rodaro home.
