Sintered steel applied to the winery A fter the development of excellent tests and inspections, Velo Technologies has replaced the previous polymeric membranes of the previous filters with the sintered stainless steel. Stainless steel has long been recognized as the undisputed leader of materials to be used in mechanical vinification systems. Sintering is a thermal treatment of a compact powder. In this case the steel powders are “welded” and thus heated to below the melting point. Sintering is a process which has already been applied to various materials for various products and uses. It allows a large number of products to be produced without waste as well as to create new products which are impossible to obtain by means of other processes, saving time and money in the development of moulds. Sintered steel has proved 50 Novembre / November 2014 VELO TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES A MAJOR INNOVATION IN THE CROSSFLOW FILTRATION OF PRODUCTS WITH HIGH SOLIDS CONTENT (THE SOCALLED ‘’LEES”) perfectly suited to the needs and specifications of the crossflow filtration of very difficult and complex products, in our case with high a solids residue (approximately 70%). Sintering, in fact, leads to porous surfaces characterized by the typical structure of the porous tubular membranes used in crossflow filtration. Sintered stainless steel guarantees a high chemical and mechanical resistance: pressure, thermal shocks, impact and chemical washing with high pH. Great safety features and advantages for wineries: the perfect combination of bypass filtration, steel and sintered products have already been widely proved on the market. The Lees-Stop with sintered steel membrane is available in versions with 15, 23, 30, 38, 45, 53 and 60 m2 of filtration surface area. www.tecnalimentaria.it BEVERAGE INDUSTRY
