Travelling in London
The best way around town is by London transport. Our famous buses and underground trains run
throughout the city, so you’ll never be (1) far from a stop or a station.
The underground is frequent and reliable and it is an easy – to – understand network ideal for
visitors.
Buy a Travelcard or a single ticket, insert into a ticket gate, pick the ticket up from the top of the
gate and walk through.
Our buses are one of the famous sights of London. Most London buses are red but some are now in
different colours.

First man: Thank you very much.
First man: Good morning. Do you speak English?
Newsagent’s: Yes, a little. Can I help you?

TEA SHOPS IN ENGLAND
Most villages and small towns in England have one or more tea rooms. These are locally run and
offer good food options for breakfast, lunch and tea. They usually open from 9:00am to 5:00pm,
sometimes 7 days a week.
Food Items Available
For breakfast, you can order tea or coffee, toast and sometimes a full English breakfast.
If you have your lunch in a tea room, you can have cold sandwiches (with vegetarian options),
jacket potatoes or full meals.
If you stop at a tea shop for Tea, enjoy scones, clotted cream, jam, a pot of tea or
toasted teacakes.
Most tea rooms expect you to seat yourself. The waiter/waitress brings you a menu (or there is one
on the table) and then takes your order.
Cakes are usually displayed and you can walk over to have a look at them.

Dear Martha,
I am in London now and I love it. I am staying in a small bed and breakfast a little bit far from the
centre, but very handy, and the underground station (or tube, as the Londoners call it) is close to it.
London is huge but fantastic. There is so much to see and to do.
The weather is OK. It sometimes rains, but it is often sunny and warm.
Life is quite expensive here but for the moment I have enough money.
Love,
Theresa
