O almeno così sembra a me. Progetti futuri? Credo continuerò a lavorare sulle foto. Senza moralismo. La persona diventa bambola perchè lo vuole, lo decide e sceglie così perchè ciò gli procurerà piacere. that’s all folks bondage dirty game lightskye oyster-dreams.com the killer black 39 AROUND YOU / WAITING FOR BERLIN DOPO TRE ANNI CONSECUTIVI A BARCELLONA IL BREAD AND BUTTER RITORNA ALLE PROPRIE ORIGINI TRASFERENDOSI A BERLINO. Amazing! L’album è ricco di collaborazioni, da Anneli Drecker a Karin Dreijer-Andersson (The Knife) e Lykke Li, fino a Robyn col il pezzo “The Girl and the robot”. Tre le traccie, tutte in versione acustica, che compongono l’ep: “Be Mine!”, “With Every Heartbeat”, “Bum Like You”. Il suo debutto discografico avviene nel 1994, con i singoli elettro-pop “You’ve Got That Somethin’” e “Do You Really Want Me (Show Respect)” ma il suo vero e proprio album, dal titolo “Robyn Is Here”, viene pubblicato l’anno seguente. I due pezzi scelti per l’impresa sono “Show Me Love” e “Do You Know (What It Takes)”. From this month it comes to Pìcame as a special column, with an interview with Gipi: for a week, he has been available for all the readers, answering to their questions. Here is a selection of the most interesting ones, after a brief presentation on our famous guest. Gipi is the professional name of Gianni Pacinotti and is one of the most important artists on the international comics scene. His works have received some of the most renowned awards, all around the world. many people may know him for his comic strips on Internazionale magazine, others for his graphic novels found on the bookstores. Among his works, there are “Esterno notte”, “Appunti per una storia di guerra”, “Gli innocenti”, “Questa è la stanza”, “Hanno ritrovato la macchina”, “S.” e “LMVDM – la mia vita disegnata male”. We have stolen some of his time to ask him how he decided to describe his life on comic strips, between poetic watercolors and words, very nice words that stay with you even once you have finished reading his books. Elena: How can you still be so productive? Do you ever feel with no inspiration? Gipi: I constantly feel like I have lost mi inspiration, as it is hard to come up with a story. I rarely feel satisfied. I guess one should feel like he MUST do something, without a choice. But, you know, this job gives you freedom, play and creativity. So, it’s fine. Lucia: Have you ever thought “I can’t make it”? Are you afraid of being banal, of saying something that only interests you? Gipi: I don’t feel like I’ve made it. There is no finish, there is only the journey. Every time I begin a new work, I panic. I finish it feeling the panic on me, but while I’m working on it there are some good moments that make it worth the effort. Once I asked Riccardo Mannelli, one of my masters, if this terror and this feeling dead loss would leave me at some point, and he smiled and told me: “Don’t worry, it will never go away”, and then he laughed. Now, after ten years and many works, I can say he was right. It never goes away. And if it goes away, I guess that’s a bad sign. Mirko: What about the discipline of drawing? Gipi: Good introductory habits to drawing: Wake up early. Work in the morning and start drawing before doing anything else (well, take a shower, have a wee, brush your teeth, have a coffee, eat some bread with butter and jam, with orange juice). Clean the drawing table, this way it will talk to you. Buy new drawing stuff. Experiment with it. Bad habits: read e-mails, surf the net, smoke. Dario: Why do you draw and tell stories? Gipi: Because it feels natural, it has always felt natural. Because I am selfish. Because it’s my job. Because I really trust communication between human beings. Because I believe to communicate is the opposite of doing some harm. PAG. 34 / PÌC MY PIC Hi Beatrice, Pìcame welcomes you. Let’s tell us a bit about yourself. I have begun and I keep on doing photographs for passion, for representing passion and transmitting passion. My inspiration derives exclusively from feelings: it’s not what surround people that interest me but what moves inside them and that’s what I try to express. 59 Why did you choose dolls? I selected dolls as “passive” objects for my work as representing feeling through them is difficult: dolls don’t have facial expression, they don’t move neither their faces can change. The attempt to make dolls (inexpressive by definition) means of expressions can be reached only through no verbal ways, as the body language, light and special set up. The fact that dolls don’t have proper emotions let me represent through them my feelings without the intercession of the model that could change them. Do you use a particular kind of dolls? I choose those created by Charles Fegen and Desmond Lingard as they are alike real women. Their anatomic perfection avoid them to be considered simple dolls and arise them to the role of perfect models for what I would like to represent. What are you working on now? I’m actually making some pictures for an exhibition that will take place in Milan where I will present my works under the protection of the Galleria Famiglia Margini and Grace Zanotto, and then in the USA. Future projects? I think I will keep working on my pictures. In my projects there is also the idea to add and confuse who sees them, with picture of dolls mixed with mine, underling the fact that a doll can be the representation of a person and the other way round. Without any kind of moralism. The person becomes a dolls as he/she wants it, decide it and choose it as will please him/her.
