Vincitore di borsa di studio del C.N.R. per ricerche da svolgere presso istituti esteri, fruita presso il laboratorio di chirurgia sperimentale del Dipartimento di Chirurgia dell’Università di Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, sotto la guida del prof JE Fischer. 1983. Vincitore di un concorso libero a Ricercatore Universitario di Gastroenterologia presso l’Università de L’Aquila. Trasferito come ricercatore confermato all’Università di Roma “La Sapienza” e da allora in servizio presso la II Cattedra di Gastroenterologia, Dipartimento di Medicina Clinica, 2000. Idoneo ad un concorso per Professore di II Fascia in Gastroenterologia (MED 012) bandito dall’Università di Padova. 2000 Chiamato come Professore Associato di Gastroenterologia dalla I Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia dell’Università di Roma “La Sapienza” e confermato nel 2003. Dal 1999 al 2001 è stato membro della Commissione Credits (accreditamenti) della Federazione Italiana delle Malattie Digestive (FIMAD) Nel 2006 è stato membro della Commissione di studio FIMAD sulla domanda e l’offerta della Malattie dell’Apparato Digerente ed Epatobiliare sul territorio nazionale. Curriculum Vitae Pagina 2 - ATTIVITA’ ASSISTENZIALE - Dal 1975 come studente interno e dal 1977 come medico interno il Prof Riggio ha lavorato continuativamente nei reparti di Clinica Medica III dell’Università di Roma diretti dal prof. Giuseppe Giunchi - Dal Novembre 1991 in qualità di Assistente e dal Novembre 1992 come Aiuto e successivamente come Dirigente di I° livello ha svolto ininterrottamente attività clinica presso la UOC di Gastroenterologia II dell’Azienda Policlinico Umberto I diretta prima dal Prof. Livio Capocaccia e successivamente dal prof. Adolfo Francesco Attili. - Nel corso di tale attività ha svolto compiti di Caporeparto con responsabilità diretta di gestione di pazienti estremamente complessi affetti da patologie sia gastroenterlogiche che epatologiche comprendenti tra l’altro pazienti con ipertensione portale, sanguinamento da varici esofagogastriche, epatocarcinoma, avviati e sottoposti a trapianto epatico ed ad altre procedure invasive come la TIPS. - Dal 2007 è responsabile del Centro di Riferimento Regionale per la Diagnosi e Terapia dell’Ipertensione Portale dell’Azienda Ospedaliera Policlinico Umberto I. - Svolge inoltre un’intensa attività di consulenza presso reparti specialistici dell’azienda ospedaliera ed attività ambulatoriale. Curriculum Vitae Pagina 3 ATTIVITA’ SCIENTIFICA Il principale campo di ricerca del Prof. Oliviero Riggio riguarda la cirrosi e le conseguenze della grave insufficienza epatica. In questo ambito, utilizzando metodiche cliniche e sperimentali, il Prof. Riggio ha svolto ricerche su: 1. Patogenesi e terapia dell’encefalopatia epatica 2. Alterazioni del metabolismo glucidico, lipidico e protidico in corso di grave insufficienza epatica 3. Valutazione e patogenesi delle alterazioni nutrizionali del cirrotico 4. Terapia delle complicanze dell’ipertensione portale Nel corso di tali studi il Prof. Riggio ha messo a punto ed utilizzato numerose metodiche di laboratorio e modelli sperimentali di insufficienza epatica quali l’anastomosi porta-cava e la cirrosi sperimentale da tetracloruro di carbonio nel ratto. Sul piano della ricerca clinica ha portato avanti diversi trial clinici controllati allo scopo di valutare l’efficacia di nuovi trattamenti quali: amino acidi a catena ramificata, lattitolo, supplemento orale di zinco, TIPS. Nel campo delle alterazioni metaboliche e nutrizionale il Prof Riggio ha messo a punto ed applicato tecniche di indagine quali: clamp euglicemico iperinsulinemico e calorimetria indiretta. Il Prof Riggio è membro delle seguenti Società Scientifiche - Associazione Italiana per lo Studio del Fegato (AISF) - Società Italiana di Gastroenterologia (SIGE) - American Association for the Study of liver Disease (AASLD) - Società Italiana di Pedagogia Medica (SIPeM) Il Prof Riggio svolge regolarmente attività di referee per riviste italiane e straniere tra cui Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology e Gastroenterology. N° di lavori revisionati nel 2010 = 20; nel 2011 =17 Nel 1998 è stato responsabile scientifico di una Unità di ricerca finanziata dal MURST nell’ambito dei programmi di ricerca di interesse nazionale (PRIN). Incarico rinnovato nel 2000 e nel 2003.
