The organisers aim to reward the most meritorious young voices with a
scholarship to assist in their improvement
JURY
The jury has been selected by the Lions Club Bolzano-Bozen Host together with
the Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory and the Orchestra Haydn Foundation of
Bolzano & Trento, and consists of:

rights, to act as secretary to the jury.
The jury shall adopt its decisions in secret and by a majority of votes cast. The
Chairman shall have the deciding vote in the event of a tie.
Decisions are final and, upon registration, candidates waive in advance all
claims in regard to the competition.
REGULATIONS
1. Admission requirements.
Participation is open to male voices: tenor (of various extensions and qualities)
and bass (baritone, bass-baritone and bass) as well as to female voices:
soprano and mezzosoprano.
Candidates for the competition must, at the time of registration, be no more than
30 years old.
Candidates must indicate in the application form whether they are or have ever
been a student of one of the members of the jury.
2. Registration.
2.1. In order to register for the competition, candidates must send the following
documents, only via e-mail and by no later than 22 September 2015, to the
Secretary of the “Giangiacomo Guelfi” International Competition

2.2. Candidates must also, within the same deadline of 22 September 2015,
make payment of the sum of € 50.00 to the following bank account:

2.3. Incomplete and unsigned entries will not be accepted.

3. Competition procedures.
Preselection
On the basis of the curricula and the audio material submitted, the Artistic
Director will, at his sole discretion, select the eighteen finalists for final
examination.
Notification will be sent to the finalists at the e-mail address indicated on
their registration form by no later than 15 October 2015.
Finalists must, on penalty of disqualification, confirm their participation
by no later than 21 October 2015 by submitting to the e-mail address
[email protected] the scores for two pieces for the semi-finals (one
obligatory piece and one freely chosen) and, in the event of their reaching the
final, two other pieces (one obligatory piece and one freely chosen).
Failure to submit the above in good time will result in disqualification from the
competition and the calling of the next candidate chosen by the jury.
Final examinations.
The final examinations will take place at the Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory
in Bolzano on the evenings of 20 (semi-final) and 21 (final) November 2015.
In the final examinations each candidate must perform one piece of their choice
and one piece chosen from the obligatory pieces for the candidate’s particular
voice.
The order in which candidates are called will be established for each evening in
the presence of all candidates by drawing lots consisting of letters of the
alphabet in order to identify the name of the first candidate.
If for any reason one or more of the eligible finalists cannot or does not wish to
participate, the jury will call other candidates of its choice from the best of the
contestants not admitted to the finals.
Jury members will abstain from voting should any candidate have ever been
one of their students.
Semi-final: Friday 20 November 2015.
The jury will subsequently announce the names of the nine candidates admitted
to the final.
Final: Saturday 21 November 2015.
Announcement of the winners and of the Giangiacomo Guelfi Prize and award
of scholarships.
4. Accompaniment.
For the purposes of any examinations held in situ and for the final examinations,
the “Giangiacomo Guelfi” competition will make available to candidates, free of
charge, a pianist as accompanist. However each candidate may, at their own
expense, be accompanied by a pianist of their choice, provided prior notice is
given thereof.
5. Prizes.
The competition organisers may award a
Giangiacomo Guelfi Special Prize of € 2,500.00
reserved to the most meritorious of the category winners
as well as (may be awarded with the Special Prize):
€ 2,500.00 (two thousand five hundred) to the first tenor;
€ 2,500.00 (two thousand five hundred) to the first bass – baritone;
€ 2,500.00 (two thousand five hundred) to the first soprano –
mezzosoprano;
The jury may decide to award a prize ex aequo, dividing the prize between the
winners, or to award or not to award a category prize or the Special Prize.
All prizes will be paid net of statutory deductions.

6. Audio and video recordings.
The organisers reserve the right to record, store and reproduce, without time
limit and for any purpose, the semi-final and the final without having any
obligation towards participants who, by signing the application form, expressly
agree to grant the organisers free of charge all rights to exploit such recordings.
7. Voluntary nature of event.
This initiative is of a not-for-profit nature.
All monies collected by the organisers from registration fees, donations by the
public or any marketing of recordings will be used for the competition prizes, for
the living expenses of the organisers and, as far as possible, to reimburse the
expenses and travel costs of the finalists. The Lions Club Bolzano-Bozen Host
will provide those interested with a claims form upon request.
8. Modification/cancellation of the competition – court of jurisdiction.
The organisers are entitled to make changes of an artistic character or a
technical nature to the competition, giving notice to candidates thereof. If for
reasons beyond the control of the organisers the competition cannot take place,
registrations will be cancelled and registration fees will be refunded.
The Court of Bolzano will have sole competence for all disputes arising from
registration for or participation in the competition.
