TES – Transformer Electro Service – with its more than twenty years
of experience first in the field of repair and then in the production of
power, furnace and special transformers, is the only company in Italy
with an own facility where equipment and trained staff are entirely
dedicated to service.
Housed in a covered area of 4.000 square meters in the hinterland of
Brescia - Rodengo Saiano - the new Business Unit entirely dedicated
to Service for transformers up to 400 MVA and 420 kV insulation class,
is designed for repairing, upgrading and the routine or extraordinary
maintenance of any type of transformers, even produced by other
manufacturers.

CASE HISTORY
Revamping of power Transformers of EDISON
S.p.a. substation of Porto Marghera
Re-engineering a transformer means exceeding the project technological
limits of the existing machine by integrating its original project with
mechanical and electro-technical solutions that can meet the production
needs of the new industrial requirements.
A team of TES specialists has removed from Porto Marghera a faulty
135 MVA transformer, that was built by a multinational company, and
returned it to Edison repaired and re-powered to 155 MVA.
TES activities:
• On-site removal of the active part in order to check it and estimate
the repair work needed
• Transport to TES workshops
• Design review aimed to eliminate the failure causes
• Upgrading of the machine up to the project limit of 155MVA
• Testing of the transformer, according to the IEC Standards, including
Temperature rise test with hot spot temperature measurement
through the installation of optical fibers in the windings
• Machine testing as if it was new, without insulation reduction, even
though provided for by the standard in case of used equipment
• 12-months guarantee, as provided for new units
TES offers the possibility of Revamping the existing equipment by
optimizing the technical characteristics avoiding the purchase of a new
transformer.
Guaranteed by TES’s acknowledged expertise, the same customer
ordered the revamping of a unit similar to the one already repaired.
CASE HISTORY
Design Review of an out-of-service furnace
transformer built by an Italian company for
Feralpi SIDERURGICA S.P.A.
Following the failure of a furnace transformer produced by a leading Italian company,
TES was hired for its repair.
The transformer was checked at TES 24/7 workshops and a thorough design
review allowed the identification and elimination of the weaknesses of the original
project.
TES 24/7 solution was that of using state-of-the-art materials and technologies in
order not only to repair but also to upgrade the unit, reaching a rated power of 80
MVA compared to the original 70 MVA.
The redesigning phase included solutions that will allow the easy on site
maintenance of the machine.
Due to some structural changes it is now possible to check and recalibrate the
pressing forces acting on the windings, if necessary, without removing the
transformer from the installation cabin.
Working together with TES 24/7, the customer Feralpi has obtained an upgraded
transformer from the one that had previously been out of service.
Guaranteed by TES’s acknowledged professionalism, the same customer has
ordered the upgrading of a unit similar to the one already repaired, thus preventing
a possible break down, and has also ordered a new 125 MVA furnace transformer,
to be produced according to the same project criteria.
