As if they were guests in the same hotel, different artists are invited to search the night
sky from their own bedroom windows.
In the firmament that we observe at night , the stars shine brightly, surrounded by a
thick darkness. The darkness that we see in the sky is something that, according to
scientists, demands an explanation. In an expanding universe, the most remote galaxies move away from us at a speed so great that their l ight is never able to reach us.
To perceive, in the darkness of the present, this light that st rives to reach us but can
not-this is what it means to be contemporary.
The contemporary is he who firmly holds his gaze on his own time so as to perceive not
its light, but rather its darkness.
From posing one of the great cosmological questions, the exhibition Hotel Universo, in
the Transluminous darkness endeavors to question the very concepts of darkness, within the luminous night. Concepts like the unknown, or partially known, lucid dreams,
foreseeing the future or clairvoyance, are used to take us on an exploration to make us
reflect on the role of the artist, as a visionary that designs lenses that allow us to see
the world, using the "entanglement method". There where the eye cannot see, the so
called "blind spot", where the retina does not hold light receptors, is where art acts as
a compass, guiding us on the side-path to ordinary knowledge.

ART DIRECTOR

Joseph Beuys (1921 –1986) was a German Fluxus, happening and performance artist
as well as a sculptor, installation artist, graphic artist, art theorist and pedagogue of
art. His extensive ouvre is grounded in concepts of humanism, social philosophy and
anthroposophy; it culminates in the idea of social sculpture as a Gesamtkunstwerk, for
which he claimed a creative, participatory role in shaping society and politics.
At the VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK will be shown In difesa della
Natura, one of the most important actions carried out by the German artist during the
last fifteen years of his life. An operation that placed at the centre of attention Nature, agriculture and its sustainable development in anticipation of themes, which have
been so widely discussed in the recent years and which will be the focus of the Expo
Milano 2015 “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”.
The homage, organized by Fondazione Bonotto in collaboration with Lucrezia De Domizio Durini, will rebuild a part of the Abruzzo countryside where the visitors can walk
among the Beuysian trees (Olive, Oak, Laurel and Rosemary) and immerse themselves
in a highly evocative atmosphere due to the presence of some objects and historic manifestos used during the actions, as well as the extensive photographic documentation
by Buby Durini. To complement and support this exhibition some videos by Beuys will
be presented.
Curated by Fondazione Bonotto in collaboration with Lucrezia De Domizio Durini.

The VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK is the independent on-going
biennial live art exhibition project conceived, initiated and curated by artist duo VestAndPage, and co-organized by Studio Contemporaneo non-profit cultural association,
We Exhibit, Venice Open Gates, Live Arts Cultures and Global Art Affairs Foundation,
which hosts the event in its premises.
The project aims to promote the practices of performance art on a local, national and
international scale, with an event exclusively dedicated to them, and the related formative Learning Program organized along the year, both locally in Venice, and abroad
in cooperation with the hosting local cultural institutions.
The event takes place every two years in the month of December in the city of Venice,
Italy.
In respect of the ethical principle of trans-national cultural collaboration, since its first
edition in 2012, the VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK has become
a recognized platform where the propositive dialogue and the open confrontation
among different cultures and artistic expressions could flourish.
The core of its mission is, in fact, to strengthen the importance of the concepts of
mobility, art nomadism and temporary community; to offer moments of fruitful encounters and exchange to lay the foundations for future professional opportunities for
artists and cultural operators; and, finally, paying attention to the creation of a broader
audience for performance art.
Being a gathering reunion among artists and people “who looked for the pearls in the
rivers of human civilizations to came to share what they found” (Lee Wen), the event
works also as a think tank for outlining conceptual visions which de-clearly overcome
imposed and external human conditioning, generating further propositive reflection
on topics such as poetic and civil sovereignty, the whole and the ineffable, time, space
and existence.

Česká Bříza has never heard the sound of the sea, it’s ear trained to the delicate rustle
of leaves as the wind brushes through the trees. It is the ‘genius’ of the forest communicating, and its breath resounds without interruption. The water of the Adriatic is
900km away and tunes to the song in the same language as the waves, the sea knowing
that delicate whisper that is the air itself. The distances so clearly defined by geographical proximity suddenly seem to dissappear, the magical sound that freed from it’s cage
rises and fills the air.
verde is a reflection about gift, the existence of a reciprocal relationship: “to givegifting
is important, but why? To establish relationships”. It is effectively through this mutual
exchange that the artist becomes the seas, the forest’s, the water’s and the wind’s
accomplice, creating boundaries where these elements interact, where the boundaries are lost. With this meeting the clear, original differences between elements, and
places, become blurred, acquiring a new shape. This union becomes the fulcrum of the
work, as a medium and figurehead of an encounter otherwise impossible.

Make something useless, without reason and without effect: the work is a gamble , an
attempt, the white glove of challenge between the young artist and the giants of the
past..
Showcasing twelve works which problematize the difficult comparison between contemporary artist and the great works of the past , the interminable meeting / clash with
the visionary teachers who were able to take wing to eyes and mind, creating works
which today are incredibly current.
Twelve artists accept this challenge, at the cost of ending up like dogs during full moon
nights to “barking at the moon“.

“Ladies and Gentlemen ... Elvis has left the building, thank you and goodnight.”
Al Dovrin, official speaker of the concerts of Presley, invites the audience to leave the
room : Elvis will not return. It is already on his limousine, ready for the next date .
ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING collects the work of fifteen artists coordinate by three
young curators ( Rachel Burgato , Valentina Lacinio , Giulia Morucchio).
The “show of Art”happens as a magic trick: the artist and the audience seal a pact, it
is the sharing of a particular moment. This moment is the time of the show, in which
the audience asks to be amazed and which at the end of this everybody just have to
“go home“.

Lautreamont remains an author still unappreciated despite his undisputed masterpiece, the visionary Chants de Maldoror (1870), has exercised its charm on Symbolists
and Surrealists.
The text of the Chants, full of obscure symbolism, bizarre metamorphosis and aberrant follies, inspired Man Ray in 1920 realizing the picture riddle (or The Enigma of
Isidore Ducasse), where he portrays an ambiguous shaped object covered by a canvas
bag and closely linked with a rope. The author, who has hidden the object, destroy it
after it was photographed, perhaps to let the riddle unresolved and play with the
ambivalence and double meanings of which Lautreamont was master.
The work of Man Ray’s declines intent of our project to a formal definition (artistic)
Enigma, the mystery, the haze, the unconscious, of something of which there is prohibited contemplation and understanding objectively soothing.
In respect of suggestive environments curatorws asked to each artist to create a sitespecific work that dialogues with such impressive backgrounds.
