Aosta Valley, a quite small European region, has the specific mission of defending the cultural identity of all communities whether large or small. A leader in the history of the attainment and defence of fundamental human rights, Aosta Valley has sought to show that cultural differences are riches to be protected. Conseil de la vallee consiglio regionale della valle d’aosta 2 p 0 1 The International Prize woman of the year l e 1 s 1 4 The International Prize "Woman of the Year" is sponsored by the Regional Council of the Aosta Valley in partnership with the Italian Secretary for Foreign Affairs, the Aosta Valley Regional Government, the CRT Foundation and the Soroptimist International Club Valle d’Aosta. The prize was honoured with the President of the Italian Republic Medal, subsidised by the italian Secretary of the Foreign Affairs and the italian Secretary for Equal Opportunities. “Human Rights without Boundaries” will be the main issue for awarding the prize and will be focussing on the enhanced role of women within society, culture, the work place or in politics. Objectives reward enterprising ideas between women; encourage women’s education and access to high profile positions within the work place; acknowledge women’s contribution in the fields of Production, Tourism, Politics, Art and Communication; raise awareness within the International community in order to work towards development and democracy; generate a culture of peace and solidarity based on the safeguard of Human Rights with particular attention to less privileged countries. r d s u c c e s s i v e The candidates They are women who have distinguished themselves defending Human Rights through actions standing for life, freedom, personal safety and equality before the Law. They fought for freedom of movement and emigration, exile, citizenship and ownership, for freedom of thought and religious belief, for the freedom of association, opinion and expression and for social security. They raised awareness on suitable working conditions and the right to unionise and laid emphasis on the importance of education and adequate living standards. They come from all over the world and have contributed to the development of the International Co-operation committing themselves against exploitation and poverty and fighting for more support of less economically advanced countries. They have achieved important goals through their hard work: they brought about significant innovation, competence and contributed to the positive image of the woman in the professional world. y e a r 2 0 1 1 Application The application can be presented by: Members from all Regional, National and International Legislative Assemblies National and International Soroptimist Club Associations of National and International Press National and International Women Associations Whoever intends to run for the prize The application should be sent by 09th september2011 along with a document signed by the candidate herself for the agreement to the application and her availability to attend the prize award ceremony as well as an official document from any submission board or organization. All members of the jury will consider all the application forms received at the Presidency of the Council of the Aosta Valley and will submit a selection of names (ranging from a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 10) to the Prize Jury. The Prize Jury panel formed of maximum seven personalities from the world of Science, Economics, Communication and also from the italian Secretary of Foreign Affairs and the italian Secretary for Equal Opportunities will examine the applications chosen by the selection Jury and will name three finalists. The Prize Jury will then announce the winner of the prize during the award ceremony. The public can vote on the three finalists, via website, and the winner will receive, during the award ceremony, the “Prize of the Public”. The selection Jury panel and the Prize Jury panel are designated by the President of the Regional Council of the Aosta Valley. The prize The winner of the International Prize of the "Woman of the Year" will be awarded the equivalent of 35,000 Euros. The “Prize of the Public” will be assigned to the candidate who will receive the majority of votes and will be awarded the equivalent of 10,000 Euros. If it will coincide with the International Prize of the "Woman of the Year", the “Prize of the Public” will be assigned to the second best. The third finalist will receive 5,000 euros. All the amounts of money will support the cause for which the candidates were chosen as finalists of the prize. The Award Ceremony The award ceremony will be held on Friday 2nd December 2011 at G. Giacosa Theater in Aosta – Italy During the ceremony, the Soroptimist International Club Valle d’Aosta will award a prize worth 2,500 Euros. The prize has a strictly humanitarian value and will be awarded in accordance with the ethics of the Club itself
