years, tablet computers have made a
big impact on many of our lives, becoming inseparable companions for
work, relaxation and socialisation.
They have won over fans for their ability to bring the most advanced computer technology and functions to a
device that’s as small and light as a
notebook, which can fit anywhere and
in which everything is available at the
touch of a finger, without needing cables, mouse or keyboard.

sciti sul mercato appena un
paio d’anni fa, i tablet sono
entrati prepotentemente nelle
vite di molti di noi, diventando nostri inseparabili compagni di lavoro, di svago
e di socializzazione. Conquistano per il
loro racchiudere la tecnologia e le funzionalità dei più avanzati computer in
un apparecchio piccolo e leggero tanto
quanto un blocco appunti, che sta dappertutto quindi e in cui tutto è a portata di
un tocco di polpastrello, senza bisogno
di cavi, mouse e tastiere.
Traslare i pro di questi apparecchi al
mondo dell’automatico da sala giochi è
l’idea vincente che ha condotto la divisione funworld dell’austriaca Quanmax
alla creazione del rivoluzionario funPAD. Si tratta infatti probabilmente del
primo apparecchio da intrattenimento
touchscreen assolutamente portatile.
Non è più il giocatore che va dal gioco,
ma ora è il gioco che va fisicamente dal
giocatore. Vista la sua compattezza e il
suo non richiedere nulla se non una connessione Internet via Lan, Lan Wireless
(WLan) o 3G, l’operatore della sala, del
bar o di qualsiasi altro locale in questione potrà comodamente spostarlo e metterlo a disposizione dei clienti ovunque
siano.
Vista poi la semplicità di utilizzo
di funPAD – ricalca quella dei tablet
pc touchscreen a cui tutti siamo ormai
abituati – questi, dal canto loro, non
avranno difficoltà ad usarlo, apprezzando anzi le modalità veloci e intuitive di
accesso ai giochi.
I contenuti di funPAD sono infatti
esattamente gli stessi della piattaforma funwin, prodotta dalla stessa casa
austriaca, quindi tanti diversi giochi
d’abilità anche in modalità torneo con
molti extra adatti alla community internazionale dei giocatori. Esiste poi anche
una versione che propone invece scommesse di carattere sportivo (BETPad),
ed altre due sono in fase di preparazione
con i contenuti di Photoplay e di Touch
Toy (su quest’ultimo prodotto
si legga anche il
riquadro a destra). In Italia, dove
Quanmax
è presente
con
la consociata
funworld
srl, funPAD non
è ancora
commercializzato
per ora.n
Sempre parlando di prodotti innovativi di casa Quanmax - divisione
funworld, ma rivolti in questo caso
a utenti bambini (dai 3 ai 10 anni),
vogliamo segnalare Touch Toy, un
terminale con seduta incorporata e
schermo touchscreen (iTouch di Elo)
su monitor TFT LCD da 17” che
intrattiene i piccoli in maniera divertente ma al tempo stesso educativa.
Offre infatti otto giochi interattivi
di varia tipologia – il bambino deve
per esempio colorare, disegnare, fare
di conto, scoprire le differenze tra
due immagini simili, ricordare delle
note, o fare dei minipuzzle – che sono stati
creati in collaborazione
con pedagogisti mirando a sviluppare nei piccoli creatività, memoria,
comunicativa, capacità
di apprendimento. Una

is in fact probably the first portable touchscreen based
amusement device.
It’s no longer a case of the player going to the game,
but rather the game now physically comes to the player.
Given its compactness, portability and the fact that it requires nothing but a LAN, Wireless LAN (WLAN) or 3G
internet connection, the operator of the games room, bar
or any other location will be able to conveniently move it
and make it available to customers, wherever they are.
Given how easy funPAD is to use – it resembles a
touchscreen tablet PC that we’re all now used to – player
won’t have any difficulty in operating it, indeed appreciating the quick and intuitive way the games are accessed.
The contents of funPAD are in fact exactly the same as
the funwin platform, manufactured by the same Austrian
company, therefore many different skill games, including in
competition mode, with many extras suitable for the international community of players. There is also a version that
proposes betting on sports events (BETPad), and another
2 are being developed with the contents of Photoplay and
Touch Toy (for details of the latter see the box below).q

L’apparecchio è già in uso con successo in Europa
presso molte banche, ospedali, hotel, ristoranti, negozi
e centri commerciali, dal momento che è lo strumento
ideale per tenere impegnati piacevolmente i bambini
(ogni gioco dura in media quattro minuti) mentre i genitori sono impegnati a fare altro, come sbrigare qualche
pratica o fare acquisti. Può essere impostato con funzionamento tramite gettoniera o (fuori dall’Italia) anche no.
Interessante poi anche la possibilità per l’operatore
di gestire la macchina in remoto: dal suo ufficio o da
qualsiasi altro luogo (gli basterà un computer e una
connessione internet) potrà, per esempio, impostare
dei messaggi pubblicitari che appariranno sul monitor
dell’apparecchio, o avere resoconti delle attività, segnalazioni di malfunzionamenti eccetera. Precisiamo che
il controllo da remoto per il momento non è attivo sui

Still on the subject of innovative products by Quanmax
- Division funworld, but in this case aimed at children (from
3 to 10 years of age), we’d like to highlight Touch Toy, a
terminal with built-in seat and touchscreen (iTouch by Elo)
on a 17” TFT LCD monitor that keeps kids entertained in a
fun but at the same time educational way.
It in fact offers 8 interactive games of various types –
kids for example need to colour in, draw, do sums, find differences between two similar pictures, remember notes, or
complete mini jigsaw puzzles – that have been developed
in partnership with educators, aiming to develop creativity,
memory, communication and learning skills. A voice guides
the kids and stimulates them even when they make errors,
and there are 16 languages that can be selected, meaning
Touch Toy can be used practically anywhere.
The machine is already successful in many banks, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, shops and shopping centres all
over Europe, as it is the ideal way to keep children happily
occupied (each game lasts 4 minutes on average) while
parents are busy doing other things, such as paperwork or
shopping. It can be set for operation with or without coin
acceptor.
Another interesting feature is the possibility for the
operator to manage the machine via a remote connection:
from their office or any other place (all that’s needed is a
computer and an internet connection) operators can, for
example, set advertising messages that FEBBRAare displayed on

the monitor, or check the accounts, error messages, etc.
