PROFESSOR ZIARATI is a Marine Engineer with many years of experience in the maritime
industry. He initiated the Intelligent Manufacturing System (IMS) in early 1980s www.ims.org and the first integrated CAD/CAM in 1980s. His Factories of the Future
projects was included in the EU’s EUROTECNET in 1984 – www.c4ff.co.uk.
He has written many papers in, and developed many projects on, ship operation and
ship-building. He developed the first operational Variable Geometry Diesel Engine and in
1981 and the first VG, High Pressure Injection Common Rail Diesel Engine, now used by
almost all Diesel Engine manufacturers, in 1992. His research team developed the First
Photon Multiplier laser in 1987 which is used to measure propeller shaft’s torque and
power. He conducted research for many major engine and maritime organisations
including Cummins and Lloyd’s Register of Shipping. In 2010, he founded the European
platform to integrate maritime education, research and innovation - ww.marifuture.org,
which currently has over 100 members, all leading maritime organisations in Europe with
several members in Italy. He has helped to set up many research centres and institutes
and universities in various part of the world and help to establish the TUDEV Institute,
MarEdu and Piri Reis University in Turkey. He is currently the Chairman of Centre for
Factories of the Future (EU) and the Vice Rector of Piri Reis University in Turkey. He
coordinates the MarEdu Partnership – www.maredu.co.uk, and directs the world of
MariFuture. He is supervising several PhD in ship operation and ship building with leading
university in Europe.
