commerciali tra Italia e America Latina. Roberto Speciale anticipa le prossime iniziative della fondazione
diventata punto di riferimento per le comunità sudamericane presenti in città e quelle italiane oltreoceano

n ponte culturale che attraversa
idealmente gli oceani e i continenti. È
Casa America, la Fondazione nata nel
2000 per volontà del presidente Roberto
Speciale, col sostegno di alcuni enti e società
private e il patrocinio del ministero degli Esteri, allo scopo di promuovere il dialogo
politico, i rapporti economico-commerciali
e gli scambi formativi e umani tra Italia e
America Latina. Non è un caso che sia sorta
proprio a Genova, nell’antica residenza
cinquecentesca di Villa Rosazza, non lontano dal porto da cui tra Otto e Novecento
tanti emigranti salparono verso le Americhe
in cerca di fortuna. Sono molti i personaggi che hanno legato il proprio nome all’emigrazione, raccolti con sforzo enciclopedico
nei due volumi del Dizionario storico biografico dei Liguri in America Latina. Ma, in

America, the Foundation created in
2000 thanks to president Roberto Speciale,
with the support of some bodies and private
companies and the patronage of the Italian
Department of State , for the purpose of
promoting political dialogue, economiccommercial relations and formative and
human exchanges between Italy and Latin
America. It is not by chance that it came into
being precisely in Genoa, in the old sixteenthcentury residence of Villa Rosazza, not far
from the port from which in the nineteenth
and twentieth centuries so many emigrants
set sail for America hoping to make their
fortune. The names of many characters are
linked to emigration, gathered with an
encyclopaedic effort in the two volumes of
the Historical Biographical Dictionary of
Ligurians in Latin America. But in the end it is
always Christopher Columbus and the “hero

navigatore è stato dedicato anche un
fumetto dal titolo El Disafio de Colón,
richiesto da Brasile, Cuba e Santo Domingo
e presentato nel 2006 nelle scuole genovesi, alla presenza dell’illustratore Renzo
Callegari.
“Lavoriamo per diffondere in Italia una
maggiore conoscenza del grande patrimonio culturale ispanoamericano”, racconta
Speciale. È con questo preciso intento che
sono state create all’interno della fondazione una videoteca e una biblioteca specializzata di oltre 7.000 volumi, divisi per lingua
ed argomento. “Nell’immediato futuro,” assicura Speciale, “c’è l’intenzione di salire a
nord per costruire un rapporto di scambio e
collaborazione più attivo con gli Stati Uniti”. Per il momento, Casa America resta un
punto di riferimento per le numerose comunità sudamericane presenti in città e
quelle italiane in America Latina. Un centro
d’informazione e di dibattito, il cui dialogo
non può che passare innanzitutto dallo studio delle lingue. Per questo la Fondazione
organizza corsi a tutti i livelli di spagnolo,
portoghese e italiano per latinoamericani.
Ma è solo una delle centinaia di iniziative
promosse in dieci anni di attività, tra conferenze, tavole rotonde, performances
teatrali, presentazione di libri, mostre d’arte
e fotografiche. Altri ne seguiranno, a partire dal bicentenario per l’indipendenza argentina, che sarà celebrata nel mese di
giugno a Genova, Chiavari e La Spezia con
una retrospettiva sul regista Juan Bautista
Stagnaro e la proiezione di 25 Miradas: una
serie di cortometraggi per interpretare
questa data storica attraverso sette sguardi
d’autore. “Tra i nostri obiettivi,” prosegue
Speciale, “c’è quello di rafforzare l’immagine
e la sostanza di Genova, città da sempre
aperta al dialogo tra i popoli, in coerenza
con la sua vocazione internazionale”. Il
prossimo autunno, in programma anche
una mostra fotografica sul Centenario della Rivoluzione messicana e una dedicata al
Risorgimento italiano. b

dialogue must first of all pass through the
study of languages. For this reason the
Foundation organizes courses at all levels in
Spanish, Portuguese and Italian for Latin
Americans. But this is only one of the
hundreds of initiatives promoted in ten years
of activity, with lectures, round tables,
theatrical performances, book presentations
and art and photography exhibitions. Others
will follow, beginning from the bicentennial
for Argentinian independence, which will be
celebrated in June in Genoa, Chiavari and La
Spezia with a retrospective on the director
Juan Bautista Stagnaro and the projection of
25 Miradas: a series of short films to interpret
this historical date through the eyes of seven
directors. “Among our objectives,” continues
Speciale, “there is that of strengthening the
image and substance of Genoa, a city that has
always been open to dialogue among peoples,
consistently with its international
vocation.” Next autumn, also
scheduled is a photography
exhibition on the Centennial of
the Mexican Revolution and
one devoted to the Italian
Risorgimento. b
