Book on the theory of contemporary painting that is curated by two
artists. Their contribution is a political and theoretical statement about
the way art is made today, focusing on a type of painting that stands
outside the usual classifications that have been dominating the art
scene for the past ten years, even with the current financial crisis
going on. It is not about knowing where we are going, but about what
we need to do in order to re-start to make culture. For this reason,
the essence of painting always lies in its sutural body, where the
contemporary, the ancient and traces of the future connect into the
present – because it creates more space, and it provides space and
knowledge.

This book aims to investigate the
perspective of painting in the current context, choosing a philosophical approach that carefully
delineates mechanisms and capabilities in relation to the history
of painting, to its contemporaneity and difference, also in relation
to other media, trying to grasp
those aspects related to its continuous questioning, as a dialectic
body constantly evolving / repeating. This book is the first in Italy
not to follow a historical path,
but to present a survey of contemporary painting. Main figures
from the international scene have
joined this project: Thierry De
Cordier, Peter Doig, Marc Desgrandchamps, Jonathan Meese,
Neo Rauch, Luc Tuymans, Norbert Witzgall, and from Italy, in
addition to the book’s curators,

Il loro contributo è da rimarcare come una posizione politica e insieme
teorica intorno al modo di fare arte oggi. Ciò ha a che fare con una
pittura che sta al di fuori delle classificazioni imperanti, le quali negli
ultimi dieci anni hanno dominato la scena dell’arte anche nel momento
di crisi finanziaria che stiamo attraversando. Non si tratta di sapere
dove stiamo andando, ma che cosa bisogna fare per ricominciare a
creare cultura. E’ per questa ragione che la pittura nell’essenza sua
propria è sempre corpo suturale dove il contemporaneo e l’antico e le
