To be more precise it was designed by the Studio Volpi of Carnago, an avantgarde creative workshop with a staff of established professionals who are involved in design and engineering. The workshop was opened in 1993 by Gian Mario Volpi, a software designer who works for big companies like Whirlpool L.t.d. His studio was soon celebrated in Europe and in the rest of the world, it received important international awards, such as in 2009 the Good Design Award of Chigago (for the food trolley Burlodge) and the Reddot Design Award of Singapore (for the concept design of a lawnmower which was invented for GGP, leader company of Castelfranco Veneto, and whose prototype was exposed for an year in the design museum of the same isle. The studio boasts sixty customers, that represent Italian and international leader companies, it has a good two hundred and fifty projects and a multidisciplinary good know how. It designs objects related to very different fields, from aeronautics to home appliances, from toys to sportive articles, and among its most famous customers there are Mattel, Swatch, Magneti Marelli, Castelli, Alessi, Argo, Artsana, B&B Italia, Campagnolo and Bialetti. Alessandra Gumiero, PR manager, explains: «At the beginning we collaborated with external designers. Then Gian Mario Volpi deeply studied design and started projecting. From then on our staff began to increase and now it includes fifteen pro- fessionals who work with us. Some of them always work in our studio, while others work outside (like Stefano Binda, who works closely with Whirlpool, one of our customers). Manuela Ferrante is the art director of the studio and coordinates designers’ works, while Massimo Dell’Acqua is an architect, follows the engineering field and controls designs from the start to finish. In fact every object is controlled till the production of the prototype». Studio Volpi is going to take care of the Agusta interior design, while brands like Chicco (pushchairs) and Ducati (electronic bicycles) are its regular customers (as regards their leading products). Alessandra Gumiero says: «It is essential to know deeply the target and the values of the company for which we work. Every project can require hundreds or thousands of hours. Next year we are going to submit our food trolley Burlodge to the selection of the competition “Il Compasso d’Oro”. This food trolley, which was already awarded in Chicago, is made of carbon fiber, it has an antibacterial opening and was designed for hospitals». Studio Volpi has also a collaboration with Ducati, aimed at designing the electrical bicycles made by Italwin. The studio uses innovative methods in order to redesign completely the legendary post-war moped called “Cucciolo”. The stimulating idea is to make it come back to life. As the architect Dell’Acqua explains: «The moped’s frame has a vintage appeal. Its battery is hidden in the carrier, the gear (Nexus Shimano) is integrated in the rear hub and its saddle (Brooks) reflects the same model used fifty years ago. This type of moped is particularly requested in the North-European markets, it will be sold in the Ducati Store and in September we are going to exhibit it in the Eurobike of Friedrichshafen».
