In questo numero pubblichiamo il report sulla Provincia di
Como nella quale, soprattutto a sud della medesima al confine, con quella che anni indietro era la Provincia di Milano
le aziende si identificavano nella produzione del “Mobile
della Brianza”. Ha spezzato questa “identificazione” la
nefasta decisione di costituire la nuova provincia di MonzaBrianza, poiché non c’era nessuna necessità di una nuova
provincia, dal momento che è la terza più piccola d’Italia e
conta 854.00 abitanti su di un’area di 405,49 Km2.

In this issue, we will be publishing the report on the
Province of Como, in the southernmost area of which once part of the Province of Milan - companies were identified as producing “Brianza furniture”.
This sense of identification has been torn apart by the illconceived decision to create the new province of MonzaBrianza, for which there was absolutely no need, given that
it is the third smallest in Italy, with a population of 854,000
in an area of 405.49 km2.

Nel contesto della Comunità Economica Europea, costituita il 9 Maggio 1950, dove tra i tanti ordinamenti positivi si
decideva l’abolizione delle Provincie e non solo in Italia, l’aver costituito una nuova Monza-Brianza è stata una iniziativa politica che non ha portato nessun vantaggio concreto,
ma ha solo sviluppato il clientelismo, il parassitario, l’aumento delle tasse, dei costi di gestione per le aziende per i
cittadini ed una notevole burocrazia che ha spesso ostacolato anche lo sviluppo industriale dell’area. Pertanto, alcuni
argomenti da noi sviluppato nel report sul n° 248 MonzaBrianza, sono comuni nella provincia di Como.
Altro aspetto che ha “indebolito la provincia di Como è stata
la nascita – sempre voluta dai dementi politici – della provincia di Lecco e quindi Como non ha più come industria nel
suo territorio – ad esempio – l’industria Citterio di Sirone.
La storia della produzione del mobile in Italia è nata artigianalmente in Brianza già a metà del 1800 quando, soprattutto nella nobiltà si avvertiva l’esigenza di arredare le lussuose dimore con mobili di pregio.
Da una tradizione rurale, nell’arco degli anni, l’artigiano passava alla specializzazione produttiva dell’intaglio, della lucidatura e laccatura, delle decorazioni, della tappezzeria,
della tornitura, del serramento e di quanto era necessario
alla casa e all’arredamento della medesima. Parallelamente
si sviluppavano le ricerche e la vendita di materiali, quali il
legname e gli accessori necessari.
È evidente che il “Mobile d’Arte e quello in Stile” prodotto in
Brianza ha definito delle epoche nei 200 anni di storia passata. Per Como la città di riferimento del mobile è sempre
stata Cantù con la sua produzione artistica e dove già alla
metà del 1800 venne creata una scuola d’arte per il mobile.
Chi scrive questo testo ha avuto il primo contatto che l’industria del mobile dell’allora “Brianza” nel Settembre 1967
ed ha seguito in tutti questi anni le evoluzioni e le involuzioni del settore. Il discorso sarebbe lungo e complesso e non
rientra nei nostri scopi specifici, ma è evidente che anche
nel caso della nuova provincia i politici hanno dimostrato
incompetenza, nessuna visione del futuro e la totale mancanza di conoscenza della realtà produttiva e commerciale
del luogo.
One of the many positive aspects of the
European Economic Community, set
up on 9 May 1950, was the resolve to
abolish the Provinces, both in Italy and
elsewhere, and the set-up of a new one
such as Monza-Brianza was a political manoeuvre that has
brought no concrete advantages; all it has done is foment
mutual backscratching and freeloading, as well as increasing
running costs and taxes for both businesses and individual
citizens, and stretching red tape to the extent it has often
risked strangling industrial development in the area.
Therefore, some of the issues already covered in the report
on Monza-Brianza in issue 248 are also common in the province of Como. A further aspect that has been detrimental
to the province of Como has been the creation – once
again, on a thoroughly senseless political whim – of the
Province of Lecco, which has deprived Como of the presence, for example, of the Citterio company in Sirone.
The history of furniture manufacturing in Italy began with a
craft industry in Brianza back in the mid-nineteenth century,
when the noble classes in particular felt the need to enhance
their luxurious residences with fine-quality furniture. Initially a
rural tradition, over the years those working in this craft industry began to specialise in carving, polishing and lacquering,
as well as decorations, upholstery, turning, door and window
frames and everything else necessary for the home and for
home furnishings. At the same time, research progressed, as
did the sale of materials, such as timber and the necessary
accessories. It is clear that the “Artistic and Classic Furniture”
produced in the Brianza area has defined a succession of
eras in 200 years of history. The centre of the furniture industry in Como has always been the town of Cantù, where artistic furniture has traditionally been produced, and where a
school for the art of furniture making was already in existence as early as the mid-nineteenth century. My first dealings
with the furniture industry in what was then “Brianza” date
back to September 1967. Throughout the years since, I have
kept a close eye on the changing fortunes and misfortunes of
the sector. The question would require lengthy, complex
analysis, which lies beyond the specific scope of this article,
yet it is clear that the new province is a further example of the
ineptitude demonstrated by politicians, devoid of any sort of
vision for the future and of the most elementary knowledge of
the manufacturing and business situation in the local area.
Broadly speaking, the development of the sector, which

In linee generali la dinamica di sviluppo del settore, iniziata
nel 1950, non si è sviluppata equamente in tutta Italia, e
quello che ha fatto e che fa ancora la differenza, è il carattere degli imprenditori, il loro modo di pensare, di esprimersi,
di guardare lontano, di essere curiosi per i nuovi materiali, le
nuove tecnologie, di accettare le innovazioni e, naturalmente “volere fortemente lo sviluppo della propria azienda”.
In quel periodo in tutta Italia operavano aziende artigianali,
che con il boom economico di quegli anni iniziarono ad
assumere, nell’arco degli anni, una dimensione ed una struttura industriale. Naturalmente esistono anche industrie che
hanno fatto l’identità del mobile italiano nel mondo con i loro
progetti di design e la qualità dei loro mobili.
Alle industrie della Brianza, già dagli anni ’50, và riconosciuto il merito di aver capito l’importanza del design, della
pubblicità e della comunicazione attraverso la stampa, le
fiere e gli showroom.
C’è anche il risvolto della medaglia che mostra il carattere
diffidente dell’imprenditore Brianzolo – naturalmente questa
è una considerazione generale dalla quale gli “imprenditori
illuminati” sono esclusi – poco propenso ad accettare le
innovazioni tecniche ed i nuovi materiali. L’imprenditore
brianzolo è quello che non ti fa spiegare le caratteristiche di
un prodotto, ma ti chiede subito “Cusa l’è ch’el costa?” La
nostra convinzione è che il solo prezzo non è sufficiente a
definire le caratteristiche di un prodotto, e che quello che
costa poco, vale anche e sempre poco!
Così le innovazioni, spesso rifiutate dai signori della Brianza,
sono state invece accettate dagli industriali delle altre zone
d’Italia, che si sono avvantaggiati sui lombardi.
Anche per questa ragione, dalla metà del 1980 è iniziato il
declino della “Brianza” che è stato lento ed ha visto molte
aziende chiudere per non poter competere con la concorrenza di mobilieri delle Regioni Veneto, Friuli, Marche ed
anche esteri, dove l’Ikea è oggi un esempio per tutti.

remains, the character of the entrepreneurs, their way of
thinking, of expressing themselves, as well as their farsightedness, their curious interest in new materials and new technologies, their willingness to take on board innovation, and of
course their “keen desire to see their businesses grow”.
During that period, there were craft businesses operating all
over Italy, which thanks to the economic boom of those years,
gradually took on an industrial dimension and structure. These
naturally include companies that have left their mark on the
identity of Italian furniture worldwide thanks to their design
projects and top-quality materials. It must be acknowledged
that the companies in Brianza were among the first, as early as
the 1950s, to grasp the importance of design, advertising and
communication, through the press, trade fairs and showrooms. On the flip side of the coin, we find the diffidence typical of the Brianza businessman – this is of course a generalisation that does not take account of the exceptions, the “enlightened” entrepreneurs – and his reluctance to take on board
technical innovations and accept new materials. The typical
Brianza businessman will halt a flow of explanations about the
features of a product with the point-blank question “What’s it
going to cost me?”. Our conviction is that the characteristics
of a product cannot be evaluated by price alone, and that if
something doesn’t cost much, it’s never worth much either!
This explains why innovations that were rejected in Brianza
were often accepted by industrialists in other areas in Italy, who
thus obtained an advantage over those in Lombardia. This is
another reason for the long decline of the Brianza area from
the mid-1980s onwards, which has witnessed the closure of
many companies due to their inability to compete with furniture manufactures in the Veneto, Friuli and Marche regions, as
well as others from abroad, such as Ikea, which today sets an
example to all. Many companies have moved away from

Molte aziende si sono riconvertire da produttori a rivenditori e

c’è tutto un indotto di
“aziende di servizio” che forniscono i materiali più diversi e necessari alla produzione, che queste vivono di
luce riflessa: se il settore
manifatturiero è in crescendo, anche loro crescono,
diversamente soffrono e chiudono. Basta un solo esempio
illuminante per tutti, che è quello dell’industria dei tranciati
che nel Gennaio 1983 (vedi Datalignum N° 3) in Brianza
contava 30 industrie con 105 tra trance e sfogliatrici e dava
lavoro a 1.645 addetti. Anche a causa di una normativa stabilità in alcuni Comuni della provincia di Monza-Brianza con
la quale si è stabilito che ”non è consentito lavorare su 2
turni di lavoro (per un totale di 16 ore) in un giorno” oggi le
aziende produttrici di tranciati sono solo 2. Tutte le altre
hanno chiuso o si sono convertite alla rivendita.
È da notare che anche nelle altre aree d’Italia che contavano un totale (compresa la Brianza) di 63 industrie con
213trance e 3.754 addetti, è toccata la stessa sorte, ossia
hanno chiuso. La nostra Casa Editrice dalla sua fondazione

di mercato nel settore con l’obiettivo di fornire agli addetti ai
lavori una precisa situazione del settore “legno-mobilecomponentistica- tecnologie, etc, etc” e per questo l’evoluzione delle gestione dei dati ha avuto dalla cibernetica un
impulso notevole.

112.380 nominativi mondiali. Da questo sono estratti i nomi
dei 222 produttori della provincia di Como i cui nomi pubblichiamo nelle 8 pagine dei tabulati.
Per industrie intendiamo aziende che hanno minimo di 10
addetti, anche se sul territorio operano aziende artigianali
con strutture produttive che fanno invidia alle industrie più
grandi di dimensione. Ci teniamo a chiarire che non esiste
un confine preciso tra industria ed azienda artigianale, quando questa ultima è dotata di tecnologie innovative ed utilizza materiali dell’ultima generazione.

particular along the Nuova Valvassina and 35 Milano-Lentate

Market situations change,
and the distribution of furniture has also felt – and continues to feel – the effects of
the crisis, with many centres
having closed down or destined to do so. When a business grows, a whole series of
“service firms” grow up
around it, supplying a wide
range of different materials
required for the production
process. The fortunes of
these companies depend on
the manufacturing industries:
if the latter prosper, so do they; otherwise, they run into trouble and close down. A single example is sufficient to illustrate
the case in point: the veneer industry, which in January 1983
(see Datalignum, issue no. 3) boasted 30 firms in Brianza, with
105 slicing machines and peeling lathes, and employed 1645
people. Partly as a result of a regulation introduced in a number of municipalities of the province of Monza-Brianza establishing that “work may not be carried out in two shifts (totalling
16 hours) in a single day”, today just two of those veneer
manufacturers remain; all the others have either closed down
or moved into reselling. It is worth pointing out that the other
areas of Italy - where there was once a total (including Brianza)
of 63 companies, with 213 slicing machines and 3754
employees – have succumbed to the same fate, and are no
longer in existence. Since its foundation in Milan in March
1982, our Publishing House has always dealt with market
research in the sector, with a view to providing operators with
a clear picture of the situation in the “wood-furniture-components-technologies, etc.” sector, and the evolution of data
management has been given a significant boost by cybernetics. The foundation in January 2002 of our second Publishing
House in Canterbury, UK, coincided with the set-up of the web
search engine www.datalignum.com, which today contains
112,380 names from all over the world. It is from here that we
have taken the names of the 222 manufacturers in the province of Como, published on the 8 pages of tables.
By companies, we mean businesses employing at least 10
people, true though it is that there are craft businesses operating in the area with manufacturing structures that have little to
envy larger concerns. We feel it is important to make clear that
there is no hard-and-fast dividing line that separates a company from a craft business when the latter is equipped with
innovative technologies and uses latest-generation materials.

buon numero di Società è a Responsabilità Limitata (Srl),
mentre la maggioranza sono Società in nome collettivo, sia
in Accomandita Semplice (Sas) che in nome collettivo (Snc).
Tra le più significative e conosciute industrie della proinvica di
Como, segnaliamo alcuni nomi: Lema, Poliform, Maggi,
Maroni, Porro, Turri, Riva 1920, Cappellini, Misura
Emme/Mascheroni. Per quanto riguarda le tipologie produttive per

Come detto, le industrie del mobile in Provincia di Como
sono in totale 222 e producono 11 tipologie di mobili (vedi
tabella riepilogativa): cucine (A), soggiorni/tinelli (B)+camere/armadi (C), bagni (D), uffici (E), salotti/poltrone (F), tavoli/sedie (G), ingressi/altri mobili (H), giardino (I), mobili in stile
(L) e nel settore contract/allestimenti (M) .

Occorre ricordare al lettore che molte industrie producono
diversi tipi di mobili affini tra loro, esempio: cucine e bagni;
salotti e sedie, etc. etc. Nel caso specifico della produzione
dei tinelli e camere da letto, queste essendo affini, in Como,
sono 111 industrie producono tinelli/soggiorni e 126 producono camere/armadi e poiché il totale è di 144 aziende, si
deduce che almeno 111 producono le due tipologie. Qui di
seguito pubblichiamo una tabella che mostra le tipologie produttive preminenti delle 222 industrie, codificate in:
Naturalmente, all’origine dell’attività industriale alla fine del
1800 la produzione era rivolta al solo mobile in stile e con lo
sviluppo delle tecnologie, del design e l’evoluzione del gusto,
oggi la produzione di mobili moderni è quella dominante.
La merceologia più prodotta è quella dei salotti/poltrone,
mentre nella produzione dei tavoli/Sedie pur essendo di

As regards the legal form of the companies, we can see
that out of a total of 222, just 17 are joint-stock companies
(SpA). A fair number are limited liability companies (Srl), while
the majority are partnerships, either general (Sas) or limited
(Snc). Among the most significant and best-known companies
in the province of Como are Lema, Poliform, Maggi, Maroni,
Porro, Turri, Riva 1920, Cappellini, Misura Emme/Mascheroni.
As regards the type of furniture produced, 10 different types
appear in our search engine www.datalignum.com (kitchens, living rooms, lounges, bedrooms/wardrobes, office
furniture, tables/chairs, bathroom furnishings, garden furniture, entrance halls/other furniture, plus the specific classic
furniture segment). We have also added “Contract/Fit-out”,
because these two segments have seen the development
of a number of specialised companies. The print-outs from

while the production of tables and chairs is less significant,
given that many of the models that appear in company catalogues are produced by specialised external suppliers.
We estimate that there are some 7,500 people in the province of Como working in the segments referred to above in the
222 furniture companies present there. If we take a look at
the events we have seen over the years and consider the
characteristics of the companies, their manufacturing structure and commercial organisation, what appears immediately
clear is that it is not sufficient to have attractive premises and
quality furniture to sell; today it is more essential than ever to
pay attention to advertising and communicating with the
market. Marketing-oriented companies remain few and far
between in the province of Como, for the reasons referred to

Nel 1948, coadiuvato dal
fratello, Tagliabue Ambrogio,
dava inizio all’attività d’ebanista in Cantù. Erano gli anni
della ricostruzione post-bellica e la tradizione artigianale
canturina iniziava la sua
ascesa, confermando la propria indiscussa validità artistico-creativa che l’avrebbe
proiettata, negli anni a venire,
ai vertici delle affermazioni
commerciali mondiali. Su
quest’onda montante del
periodo proficuo del settore
arredamento, i Tagliabue hanno costruito il proprio successo, con impegno costante volto a migliorare sempre più le
proprie capacità lavorative, con l’orgoglio di vedere le proprie
realizzazioni apprezzate ovunque. Senza soluzione di continuità l’attività è proseguita per opera dei discendenti e, nel
1972, la trasformazione nell’attuale società Tagliabue A & A.
Alberto e Alessandro Tagliabue coadiuvati dai figli, hanno
sviluppato enormemente la capacità di produzione realizzando, già nel 1989, l’attuale stabilimento che occupa stabilmente 20 addetti. Altri artigiani dell’area canturina collaborano con la casa-madre garantendo, nello stesso tempo,
alta qualità del prodotto, estrema versatilità di realizzazione
e termini di consegna utili. Un ufficio tecnico modernamente attrezzato e personale addetto al commerciale di gran
professionalità, sono disponibili per affrontare e risolvere
tutte le esigenze relative alla progettazione, consegna e
post-vendita. Grazie alla sua grand’esperienza è in grado
oggi di realizzare moduli d’arredamento: dal ‘700 francese

Tagliabue A.& A.
In 1948, with the assistance
of his brother, Ambrogio
Tagliabue set up a cabinetmaking business in Cantù.
This was the post-war reconstruction period, and the
Cantù craftsmanship tradition was beginning to grow,
confirming the unquestionable artistic and creative value
that in the coming years was
to take it right to the peak of
the trade worldwide. Riding
the wave of this fruitful period
for the furnishing sector, the
Tagliabue brothers went from strength to strength, investing
constant commitment in improving their working abilities and
taking pride in seeing their creations appreciated everywhere
they went. Thanks to the brothers’ descendants, this work
continued seamlessly, and 1972 saw the foundation of the current business, Tagliabue A & A. Alberto and Alessandro
Tagliabue, assisted by their children, boosted production
capacity to a huge extent, and in 1989 they built the presentday premises, which provides stable employment to 20 people. Other craftsmen in the Cantu area work with the main
company, guaranteeing high-quality products and maximum
versatility in terms of projects and delivery times.
A modern, fully equipped technical office and extremely
professional sales staff are on hand to tackle and meet all
kinds of requirements regarding project design, delivery and
after-sales service. The company’s lengthy experience
today allows them to create a range of furnishing modules:
from pieces in 18th-century French style to Art Deco and
contemporary, including living and dining furniture, beds,
bedside cabinets and tables and wardrobe systems.

Riva 1920 produce mobili
da tre generazioni. Tutto
nasce nel 1920 in una bottega artigianale e famigliare
avviata dal nonno Nino
Romano e portata avanti dal
padre Mario Riva che utilizza solo legno massello. Nel
1992 Riva si trasforma in
azienda e si presenta per la
prima volta al Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano.
Oggi sono Maurizio e Davide a condurre l’Industria Riva.
Negli anni comincia anche la collaborazione con diversi
designer di fama internazionale, nel rispetto della filosofia
aziendale che unisce funzionalità ed estetica delle forme
senza mai dimenticare l’importanza del viver sano e sostenibile. Progetti speciali sono nati da questo connubio di
falegnameria e genialità, come il progetto volto al riutilizzo
delle Briccole, protagoniste indiscusse della laguna di
Venezia che guidano le imbarcazioni e segnalano la bassa
marea. Unico nel suo genere, grazie all’operosità delle teredini, piccoli molluschi, questo legno vuole essere insieme,
celebrazione di un materiale di riuso e tributo alla città di
Venezia. Altra iniziativa ricca di significato, è il progetto
“Ground Zero...Ground Heroes” promosso da Riva 1920
per dimostrare solidarietà nei confronti delle famiglie delle
vittime dell’11 Settembre 2001. Sono stati realizzati cinque
tavoli firmati da importanti designer e poi grazie ad un’asta
è stato possibile donare il ricavato alle famiglie dei pompieri di New York che hanno perso la vita durante le operazioni di soccorso a Ground Zero.
Diversi sono anche i progetti culturali e le iniziative sociali
che vedono coinvolta Riva 1920, come i concorsi di idee
rivolti ai giovani designer ed architetti e il progetto di recupero del legno delle botti dismesse della Comunità di San
Patrignano, riutilizzato e lavorato dagli stessi ragazzi del
centro per realizzare nuove opere di design.
Pensando al futuro e ai giovani, Riva 1920 inaugura nel
2001 il Museo del Legno, per tramandare e non dimenticare che il legno è una risorsa rinnovabile, ma non infinita: solo
un uso consapevole e una corretta politica di integrazione
del patrimonio arboreo può garantire in futuro un giusto
equilibrio dell’ecosistema. Cultura, design e sensibilità
sociale sono divenuti da allora parte fondamentale dell’attività di Riva 1920, da sempre i nostri prodotti raccontano
una storia alle generazioni future “Produrre con onestà per
tramandare” questo il nostro pensiero.

We have been working for
years on this project: creating furniture that challenges
time and respects nature.
Riva 1920 has been producing furniture for three generations. Maurizio and Davide
Riva are currently leading
the company, started off by
grandfather Nino Romano in
1920 and carried on by their
father Mario Riva. In the past
20 years, the company was
committed to producing furniture with only and exclusively natural materials and complements, guaranteeing low environmental impact. While
thinking of the future and young generations, Riva 1920
inaugurates in 2001 the Museum of Wood, to hand over and
not to forget that wood is a renewable resource, but it is not
infinite: only an aware use and a correct integration policy of
the arboreal heritage can guarantee a balanced ecosystem
in the future. Culture, design and social sensitivity have
become key features of Riva 1920’s activities. The collaboration with design masters strengthened a philosophy characterized by a merging of functionality and aesthetics,
without ever forgetting the importance of healthy living and
eco-sustainability. Special Projects were born out of this
marriage between woodwork and geniality, such as the
project aimed at re-utilizing Venetian Briccole, the millenary
New Zealand Kauri wood, the project Ground Zero, to
remember the history of 9/11 through design masters and
San Patrignano “Barrique” project, allowing the recycling of
olds barrels, thus helping former drug addicts of San
Patrignano community to find a way out and start a new life.

The structure of the centre is almost entirely covered with
larch-wood, one of the most long lasting and weather-resistant woods. The interior has been designed to bring out
the essence and integrity of the furniture made of solid
wood. The models on show are offered as clear examples
of the different types of wood available and the variety of the
company’s output which is updated every year to keep
abreast of trends. The top floor houses the Museum of
Wood, which gathers over 4.000 historic woodworking
machines and tools. This is the biggest of such collections
in the whole of Italy. The aim of the exhibition is to rediscover the origins and traditions of the woodworking industry in
the Cantù area. Riva 1920 collection is freely open to the
public and to all those interested in learning about the traditions of woodworking.

Showroom
Showroom e Museo del legno
Lo Showroom e il Museo del Legno di Riva 1920 sono ospitati all’interno di una bellissima struttura quasi interamente
ricoperta in legno di larice, uno tra i legni più resistenti alle
intemperie meteorologiche e allo scorrere del tempo.
Lo Showroom, situato al pian terreno del Riva Centre, è un
ambiente di circa 1200 mq che esalta l’essenza e l’unicità
dei prodotti in legno massello. All’interno si possono ammirare numerosi oggetti e diverse opere di design simbolo
della varietà di produzione che ogni anno si aggiorna e si
attualizza. Parte della collezione permanente sono pezzi
realizzati con legni di riuso quali il Kauri millenario, le
Briccole di Venezia e il cedro profumato del Libano.
Il Museo del Legno, che si trova al piano superiore della
struttura, ospita oltre 2000 macchinari ed utensili storici per
la lavorazione del legno, una collezione unica nel suo genere in Europa, per la quantità di pezzi presenti (oltre 4.000).
L’esposizione, che ha l’obiettivo di riscoprire le origini della
tradizione canturina della lavorazione del legno, annovera
molti utensili del 1800 provenienti da antiche botteghe artigiane italiane. Nell’ampio salone si trovano pialle, tavoli di
lavoro, combinate, pulitrici, seghe a nastro, bindelle: termini
tecnici quasi dimenticati che riportano alle origini della lavorazione del legno. La collezione Riva al completo è liberamente accessibile al pubblico e aperta a tutti coloro curiosi di
conoscere da vicino le tradizioni della lavorazione del legno.
Nella sede Riva 1920 abbiamo incontrato il Signor Maurizio
Riva che sinteticamente ci detto: “La storia del mobile di
Cantù, che è anche espressione del mobile della Brianza, è
sempre stata anche la storia della qualità del mobile prodotto su misura. Le esperienze negative con i consorzi ci hanno
insegnato che l’individualismo è negativo e non paga.
Per il futuro, sono convinto che tutti i produttori dovrebbero
avere delle strutture adeguate per affrontare i mercati internazionali e soprattutto, prestare attenzione alle istanze dei
giovani ed alle loro aspirazioni. Il mio fermo pensiero è sempre stato nella frase: “<<Una persona che nasce, ed è sana,
ha l’obbligo di darsi da fare per migliorare il mondo in cui vive
ed aiutare chi veramente ha bisogno>>”.

The ground floor of the building hosts the Showroom,
aimed at gathering the company’s latest creations, the
projects proposed for realization in the near future and
aimed at welcoming customers who are there able to see
and touch the renowned Riva 1920’s quality. This space, as
large as 1.200 square metres, is the perfect niche to
enhance the finishing touches of Riva 1920’s products.
The area also gathers special projects that have been milestones in the company’s history. There is the Briccole di
Venezia project for which 34 internationally renowned designers designed works of art that re-used the posts that aid
navigation in the Venetian lagoon.
The works in Lebanese cedar wood, modelled by technologically advanced machines and detailed by the knowledgeable hands of craftsmen, take on a variety of forms
depending on the creativity of the architects who are often
very attracted by the peculiar character of this wood.
And finally works in Kauri, an ancient wood from New
Zealand, whose age varies between 5,000 and 40,000
years and whose large dimensions allow us to carve out of
a single trunk tables up to 12 metres long.
At the Riva 1920 headquarters, we met Mr. Maurizio Riva,
who in a few words told us: “The history of furniture in
Cantù, emblematic of that of furniture in Brianza in general,
has always been about quality, custom-made furniture.
The negative experiences with consortiums have taught us
that individualism is damaging, and does not pay. For the
future, I believe that all manufacturers should have the
appropriate structures to cope with international markets,
and above all, should pay close attention to the demands
of young people and their aspirations. I have always been
convinced that <<Everyone on this earth with the health to
do so has an obligation to do their best to improve the
world they live in and help those truly in need>>”.

al mondo. La nuova lampada VOLVER
prodotta in Italia da Terzani fonde tecnologia e arte per raggiungere un
nuovo livello di lusso. La ditta Terzani
di Firenze (www.terzani.it) ha dichiarato: “Abbiamo la fortuna di lavorare con
alcuni delle più brillanti giovani stelle
del Design Italiano.
Per VOLVER il Designer Diego Bassetti
e l’Architetto Andrea Panzieri dello
STUDIO14, hanno applicato il loro
approccio multidisciplinare per creare
una luce in sospensione nel primo Led
di Terzani. Questi disegno geometrico
ha combinato catene sottili di nichel
con la più recente tecnologia ed ha
portato a creare una luce elegante e
moderna. IL lampadario VOLVER sarà
disponibile quanto prima in una variante circolare, in uno o due cerchi concentrici.
La progettazione dello Studio 14 consente di regolare intensità dell’emissione della luce dei Led fino a (1-10) - il
lampadario è composto di 5.130 luci
di colore chiaro - 3.000 K (caldo)
accuratezza del colore - 80 Cri del
consumo dei Led - 45 Watt di alimentazione a soffitto con baldacchino
incluso.

svolta “Cefla Live” una manifestazione che ha mostrato agli
invitati le tecnologie più innovative per la verniciatura delle
superfici.
In particolare ha avuto molto successo il sistema brevettato Inert Coating Technology by Sorbini, che consente di
preparare in modo perfetto il piano ed il bordo di pannelli di
qualsiasi tipo di suppporto (MDF, HDF, truciolare grezzo “si
traduce raw chipboard” , tamburato “si traduce hollowcore”, carte, melamminici ed altro ancora) con un notevole

in Novara. Marco Brodini originates
from Brescia in northern Italy and
brings with him a wealth of experience
for his new role.
For the past nine years, the 41 year
old has held the position of Sales
Manager at Gimatic SpA, which
manufactures handling, plastic and
mechatronics components. In this
role, Brodini was responsible for the
entire sales network as well as being
jointly responsible for establishing
several international branches. His
other duties included being in charge
of the sales and pricing strategy.
“I am very much looking forward to the new challenge within
a highly innovative, internationally established company,”
said Marco Brodini. Schmalz is one of the leading global

The result of the joint venture with the client-partner CanLak
of Daveluyville, Québec, will be the company Verylak which
will be fully operational at the beginning of 2015 but significant steps have been taken during the Fair of Atlanta held
at the end of August, which hosted both companies with
stands highly representative of the two business realities.
CanLak (www.canlak.com) will continue its production
destined for Canada, which uses American technology.
Verinlegno will be responsible for the production of high
performance paints.
The medium-term objective of Woodver and Verylak is to
achieve a total turnover of approximately 10 million euro.
The three companies, Verinlegno Verylak and Wooder have
a number of employees exceeding 200 units.
The basic idea of Verinlegno Holding is to move vertically on
the international market, by streamlining and widening the
relations established previously with its long-term partners,
as was the case of Unique International, Verinlegno’s partner for over 12 years and CanLak, whose collaboration with

The new, high-performance Moulder Master software
represents a milestone in shaping the perfectly organized
working environment. Moulder Master links all process stages upstream of production from the idea to the profile.
The software unleashes its full potential when combined
with PowerCom controls and the new OptiControl Digital.
The system represents a new generation of high-precision
tool measurement and machine setting. It is intended for
use either as a standalone device or in a paperless process
sequence in conjunction with PowerCom and Moulder
Master. With the additional connection to a template
making machine, Weinig demonstrates its all-round expertise in planing and profiling, ranging from the tool and complete work preparation to profitable workpiece processing

Wolfgang Reim succede a Michael Mosner, che ha lasciato

2014. The 54 year-old graduate business manager was
most recently Vice President and member of senior management in an international corporation in the construction
equipment and refrigeration industry.
He has many years of experience in sales and marketing.
Wolfgang Reim is the successor of Michael Mosner, who
left Weinig AG on June 30 at his own request and in consultation with the Managing Board. Weinig CEO Wolfgang
Pöschl was satisfied with the solution which ensures a
seamless transition in filling the position: “We have made a
mature decision and we are confident that Wolfgang Reim

L’Associazione di aziende e società
per la produzione di macchinari per la
lavorazione del legno (AIMSAD) della
Turchia è stata fondata a Istanbul il 6
giugno 2014. I primi passi per la fondazione di AIMSAD furono compiuti
da uomini d’affari della regione di
Bursa, sotto l’influenza di agenzie non
governative (ONG) operanti in Europa.
AIMSAD considera come propria missione quella di garantire la cooperazione, la solidarietà e lo scambio di conoscenze tra le sue aziende che producono o distribuiscono macchinari per
la lavorazione del legno e tra le aziende da queste controllate. AIMSAD
conduce varie attività e iniziative per
dare soluzione alle esigenze e ai problemi di carattere economico, finanziario, legale, amministrativo e tecnologico sollevati dei suoi membri con riferimento agli aspetti della
produzione, dell’esportazione e dell’importazione, con l’obiettivo quindi di espandere i mercati nazionali e internazionali nel settore dei macchinari per la lavorazione del legno e
dei prodotti delle aziende controllate, in vista del raggiungimento di livelli più avanzati. Ai fini della propria missione,
AIMSAD ritiene che i due programmi Turkish Industrial
Strategy Document and Action Plan e Turkish Machinery
Industry Strategy Document and Action Plan rappresentino
le principali guide nella roadmap che fissa gli obiettivi del
nostro paese per il 2023 e aderisce di conseguenza al principio che prevede come la creazione di valore aggiunto per
la nostra nazione passi dallo svolgimento di attività che
siano in linea con tali guide e i relativi Action Plans.
Sebbene sia stata fondata da produttori di macchinari per
la lavorazione del legno e abbia la propria sede principale a
Istanbul, AIMSAD intravvede la possibilità di riunire sotto la
propria ala tutte le più importanti aziende che producono
macchine utensili e le relative società dell'indotto che operano in tutta la Turchia. Per tale motivo, anche la formazione dei suoi organi amministrativi è avvenuta in considerazione delle regioni geografiche in cui ha sede la maggior

Industries Association (AIMSAD) of
Turkiye was established in Istanbul on
June 6, 2014. First steps for the establishment of AIMSAD was taken by
businessmen from Bursa region and
its foundations were laid being influenced by the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Europe.
AIMSAD sets its mission as to ensure
cooperation, solidarity and exchange
of knowledge among its member
companies practicing as manufacturers or distributers in the woodworking
machinery and side industries.
AIMSAD undertakes activities and initiatives to address its members’ economic, financial, legal, administrative,
technological problems or issues related to production, export and import;
and expand the national and global markets for
woodworking machinery and side industry products to
reach the most advanced level. In order to achieve its mission, AIMSAD considers that the Turkish Industrial Strategy
Document and Action Plan together with the Turkish
Machinery Industry Strategy Document and Action Plan as
guides which represent key roadmaps towards 2023 targets of our country and adopts the principle of creating
added value for our country by conducting activities aligned
with these guides and their Action Plans.
Although established by the woodworking machinery
manufacturers and based in Istanbul, AIMSAD envisages
bringing together under its roof all relevant companies from
the machinery and side industries across Turkey.
For this reason, even its administrative bodies were formed
considering the geographical regions where most of the
companies in the sector are located and by attributing great
importance to the sectorial distribution in order to ensure that
all side industries are represented.
AIMSAD is an association operating in socio-cultural, commercial and economic fields and it is composed of manufacturers and distributors from woodworking machinery and
side industries. AIMSAD’s original membership is corporate
membership and it is open to all companies doing business
in the stated industries.
AIMSAD svolge la propria attività di associazione in campo
socio-culturale, commerciale ed economico ed è composta
da produttori e distributori di macchinari per la lavorazione
del legno e dalle aziende dell’indotto. L’affiliazione ad AIMSAD è rivolta ai rappresentanti d’impresa ed è aperta a tutte
le società che svolgono attività d’affari nei settori sopra
menzionati. D’altro canto, AIMSAD annovera tra i propri
membri anche soci onorari e rappresentanti del mondo
accademico. Le persone che provengono dagli ambienti
scientifici e da quelli aziendali e che hanno contribuito allo
sviluppo del settore e della propria professione, oltre alle
persone che hanno arricchito AIMSAD con i propri studi
accademici, sono invitate a proporsi e saranno accettate
come membri dell’associazione, nelle rispettive categorie di
appartenenza. La sede principale di AIMSAD si trova a
Kartal, Istanbul. Sebbene l’associazione sia stata costituita
soltanto 4 mesi fa, a settembre 2014 il numero degli iscritti
a AIMSAD ha già raggiunto la quota di 38. AIMSAD considera il completamento della propria struttura associativa
come il principale obiettivo di breve termine. Un altro
Activity plan considerato prioritario da AIMSAD è rimediare
alla mancanza di un database che contenga i dati specifici
del settore e di una rete informatica che fornisca dati statistici affidabili connessi alla lavorazione del legno nel mercato turco di settore, con riferimento anche ai settori correlati. Di conseguenza, gli obiettivi di medio termine perseguiti
da AIMSAD comprendono l’invio di appositi documenti di
sintesi ai Ministri e alle altre autorità ufficiali interessate, grazie alla partecipazione ai comitati coinvolti nel settore in
oggetto e il sostegno offerto alle relative attività; l’instaurarsi di buone relazioni e di accordi di partecipazione con le
associazioni del settore dei mobili, le quali hanno molti punti
di contatto con il settore della lavorazione del legno; il varo
di iniziative che incoraggino le proprie iscritte a convertirsi
alle moderne tecnologie di produzione; la rappresentanza
del settore nelle fiere internazionali e la completa promozione di esso e delle aziende che lo compongono. Infine, gli
obiettivi di lungo periodo perseguiti da AIMSAD consistono
nella formazione di personale tecnico altamente qualificato
e di operatori in grado di ricoprire qualsiasi ruolo a vari livelli nelle società affiliate, in collaborazione con i centri di formazione e apprendistato, con le scuole professionali tecniche e industriali, con le scuole professionali di formazione
superiore e con le università; nella dotazione di tecnologie e
conoscenze aggiornate per i formatori; e in determinati

Subsequently, AIMSAD’s mid-term targets include submitting position papers to the Ministries and other official
authorities by participating in the sector-related committees
and supporting their activities; establishing good relations
and productive partnerships with the associations of furniture sector which are closely related with wood working
industry; launching initiatives to encourage the adaptation
of member companies to modern manufacturing technologies; to represent the sector in selected international fairs
and to promote the sector and members comprehensively.
Finally, the long term targets of AIMSAD consist of raising
qualified technical personnel and operators to undertake
any role in various levels within member companies in collaboration with apprenticeship training centers, technical
and industrial vocational high schools, vocational schools of
higher education, and universities; providing educators with
contemporary technology and knowledge, and also constantly transferring the optimal and most effective use of
wood working machinery to end users of such machines in
certain periods by establishing AIMSAD Applied Technical
Training and Test Centers.
In line with these targets, AIMSAD participates in a number
of national and international meetings to contribute to the
solution of sector-related problems by representing its
members before chambers and other similar organizations.
Being aware of the importance of woodworking machinery
and side industries for the national economy, AIMSAD
always acts with the vision of creating and taking further
effective initiatives with its administrative bodies and all
member companies.

singoli settori e incoraggia le proprie aziende a partecipare
a tali comitati e a sviluppare proprie soluzioni e roadmap.
Attualmente i comitati di AIMSAD già operativi sono il
Comitato dei produttori, il Comitato degli importatori, il
Comitato per i servizi After-Sales, il Comitato per le attività
di lavorazione, il Comitato di istruzione e formazione e il
Comitato fieristico. AIMSAD ha programmato anche la
costituzione di altri comitati, rivolti alla copertura di esigenze future e ddìi richieste provenienti dalle aziende iscritte
all'associazione. AIMSAD intende partecipare nel più breve
tempo possibile all’attività delle organizzazioni non governative (ONG) che operano in settori specifici a livello internazionale, con particolare riferimento allo scenario europeo,
per rappresentare la Turchia nell’ambito di tali organizzazioni. I primi passi verso il conseguimento di questo obiettivo
sono consistiti nella partecipazione alla General Assembly
of European Federation of Woodworking Machinery
Manufacturers (EUMABOIS) che si è tenuta a Verona, in
Italia, il 12 settembre 2014. AIMSAD diventerà membro di
EUMABOIS al più tardi entro la fine del 2014, così da poter

committees established within its corporate structure.
Considering the interests of all member companies, AIMSAD
creates special committees for individual sectors and encourages the related member companies to take part in these
committees, develop their own solutions and roadmaps.
AIMSAD currently operates with the Manufacturers
Committee, Importers Committee, After Sales Services
Committee, Tooling Committee, Education & Training
Committee and Fairs Committee.
AIMSAD also plans to establish additional committees
depending on future needs and upon the requests coming
from its member companies.
AIMSAD aims to be a member of international sector-specific NGOs, particularly in Europe, within the shortest time
and represent Turkey in these organizations.
The first steps towards achieving this target were taken by
participating in the General Assembly of European
Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers
(EUMABOIS) held in Verona, Italy on September 12, 2014.
As a result, AIMSAD will be a member of EUMABOIS by the
end of 2014 at latest and host the EUMABOIS General
Assembly which is planned to be held in Turkey in 2019.
AIMSAD supports the International Wood Working
Machinery, Cutting Tools and Hand Tools Fair organized
annually in Istanbul by TUYAP Industry Fairs Inc. as well as
the Middle East Woodworking Machines Fair held in
Diyarbakır. International fairs supported by AIMSAD will be
determined each year and member companies will be informed accordingly. In this context, members will be supported for participation in these fairs and visitor delegations will
also be organized for such fairs.

Tra il 27 settembre e l’1 ottobre si sono tenute le due fiere
Wood Processing Machinery, dedicata ai macchinari per la
lavorazione del legno, e Intermob, dedicata al mondo del
mobile. Insieme hanno visto la partecipazione di 861 aziende in rappresentanza di 30 paesi: per 5 giorni, infatti, le due
fiere hanno rappresentato il polo commerciale per i professionisti del settore sia a livello nazionale che internazionale.
La grande affluenza di visitatori ha dimostrato ancora una
volta che l’evento è la maggiore piattaforma d’incontro del
settore per l’Eurasia.

La società fu inizialmente fondata nel
1987 in Turchia per la produzione di bordature di elementi impiallacciati. Quando
il mercato delle impiallacciature iniziò a
contrarsi, decidemmo di convertire la
nostra attività nella produzione di bordature in melammina, al fine di soddisfare le richieste dei nostri clienti. Dopo
aver iniziato con una piccola officina a
Bursa, in Turchia, destinata soltanto alla
produzione di impiallacciatura, oggi
Tece produce bordature in melammina
con una delle massime capacità produttive disponibili in Europa orientale e
Medio Oriente. Da una piccola officina
situata alla periferia di Bursa ad uno stabilimento da 20.000 metri quadri, durante l’ultimo quarto di secolo Tece è cresciuta costantemente. Oggi Tece si presenta come l’unica azienda al mondo in
grado di produrre bordature in PVC,
melammina e impiallacciatura sotto lo
stesso tetto. Le tappe dell’evoluzione di
Tece sono state, in ordine cronologico:
1987: Necdet Coskunuzer fonda l’officina per la produzione di bordature in
impiallacciatura. Nella sua sede di
Bursa, Turchia, l’area interna dell’officina
è di circa 100 metri quadri. 1992: Tece
inizia a importare e a vendere bordature
in melammina e PVC. 1998: Tece si trasferisce nel nuovo stabilimento, con
un’area interna pari a 2.000 metri quadri. 2004-2005: Tece acquista le linee
per la stampa e l’impregnazione dei
materiali. 2005: Tece si trasferisce nel
nuovo stabilimento, che vanta un’area
complessiva pari a 20.000 metri quadri
ed è situato nella zona industriale di
Bursa. Tece conclude con successo le
prove di impregnazione e stampa ed
avvia quindi i processi di stampa e

Tece today produces melamine edgebanding at one of the highest capacity
available in the Eastern Europe and
Middle East. From a small workshop in
the suburb of Bursa to 20,000 square
meter factory; through the course of last
quarter century, Tece has been growing
steadily. Today, Tece is the only company
in the world to produce PVC, melamine,
and veneer edgebanding under one roof.
Developments of Tece in a chronically
order, is: 1987- The workshop for producing veneer edgebanding was founded
by Necdet Coskunuzer. The closed area
of the workshop was about 100 square
meters in Bursa, Turkey. 1992- Tece starts
importing and selling melamine and PVC
edgebanding. 1998, Tece moves into the
new facility with a closed area of 2,000

producer of furniture edge-banding.

Control Techniques
GREEN LIGHT FOR WORK
ON THE NEW LAB TECH IN WALES/UK
Sono cominciati i lavori di costruzione
di un nuovo laboratorio tecnologico
avanzato di una delle più grandi aziende presenti nella regione del Galles
centrale, che ospiterà circa 35 nuovi
tecnici altamente qualificati nel settore
delle tecnologie elettroniche.
Control Techniques, una business unit
di Emerson Industrial Automation, sta
sviluppando un nuovo laboratorio di
progettazione e sviluppo in un’area
adiacente al suo attuale quartier generale situato a Newtown, in Pool Road.
L’espansione delle sua presenza locale è supportata dal governo del Galles,
che costruirà e affitterà la struttura,
facilitando la creazione di nuovi posti
di lavoro estremamente qualificati.
L’allestimento specialistico delle struttura, che prevede, tra l’altro, l’isolamento del piano dedicato ai
collaudi/test e l’isolamento acustico, saranno finanziati da
Control Techniques, con la gestione del progetto affidata al
governo gallese. In occasione della visita per celebrare la
posa della prima pietra, il ministro dell’economia Edwina
Hart ha dichiarato: ”Sono felice che il Governo del Galles
supporti l’espansione di Control Techniques, un’azienda
radicata nel nostro territorio, che contribuisce in modo
significativo all’economia delle regione ed è uno dei principali datori di lavoro nel Galles centrale.
“L’investimento, che creerà localmente diversi nuovi posti di
lavoro altamente qualificati, è un segnale di fiducia verso il
Galles e le capacità presenti nella sede di Newtown, che
svolgerà un ruolo di primo piano nella progettazione e nello
sviluppo di nuovi prodotti destinati al mercato globale.”
La nuova struttura, di dimensioni industriali, permetterà
all’azienda di espandere la sua offerta attraverso lo sviluppo di nuovi prodotti e nuove tecnologie.
Amplierà anche lo spazio disponibile per uffici e sale riunioni e ospiterà uno showroom per i clienti e un laboratorio di
collaudo dei prodotti. Control Techniques, che è stata fondata nel 1973, sta attraversando un periodo di sostenuta
crescita grazie ai prodotti presentati recentemente, che
sono stati molto apprezzati da molti clienti e che hanno
conquistato nuovi mercati nel mondo.

Work has started on a new hi-tech engineering facility at
one of Mid Wales’ largest employers which will create
around 35 highly skilled engineering and technical jobs.
Control Techniques, a business unit of Emerson Industrial
Automation, is developing a new engineering lab on land
adjacent to its current company headquarters on Pool
Road, Newtown. The expansion is supported by the Welsh
Government, which will construct and lease the facility to
support the creation of new highly-skilled jobs.
The specialist fit-out, which includes isolation of the test
floor, acoustic partitioning and glazing systems, will be funded by the company and project managed by the Welsh
Government. On a visit to the site today to mark the start of
work Edwina Hart, economy minister, said:” I am delighted
the Welsh Government is supporting the expansion of
Control Techniques, an anchor company that makes a
significant contribution to the regional economy and a major
employer in mid Wales. “The investment, which will create
a number of highly skilled jobs locally, is a sign of confidence in Wales and the capability of the Newtown facility which
plays a key role in the design and development of new products for the global market.” The new, industrial scale facility will enable the company to expand its offer through the
development of new products and technologies.

La sua famiglia di prodotti Unidrive M è stata inserita in
numerose applicazioni diversificate, che spaziano dalle
miniere, all’industria alimentare e ai teatri. Il nuovo edificio
metterà a disposizione dell’azienda i nuovi spazi che servono
per favorire la sua ulteriore crescita in diversi mercati emergenti. La costruzione del laboratorio da 900 m2, compresa la
ristrutturazione e l’ampliamento dell’attuale parcheggio, si
prevede che sarà completata entro l’autunno 2015.
Anche l’eliporto già presente nel sito verrà spostato e continuerà a rimanere a disposizione dei servizi di pronto soccorso di Welsh Air Ambulance, un’opportunità che Control
Techniques offre alla comunità locale da 8 anni.
Control Techniques impiega più di 2.000 persone nelle sue 55
sedi in tutto il mondo, comprese circa 600 persone nelle due
sedi presenti a Newtown. L’azienda progetta a produce azionamenti a velocità variabile e soluzioni di automazione destinate ad applicazioni industriali e commerciali. Enrique Viseras,
presidente di Control Techniques, ha affermato: “Siamo fieri
del nostro insediamento nel Galles centrale e lo sviluppo delle
nostre attività qui è sempre stato una nostra priorità.

The company, which was founded in 1973, is enjoying a
period of sustained growth thanks to recent product launches, which has successfully taken the business into new
markets across the world. Its Unidrive M family of products
has been incorporated into applications as diverse as
mining, food production and theatres.
The new building will provide the company with the tools it
needs to fuel further growth across a range of emerging
markets. Work on the 900 m2 lab, including the redevelopment and extension of the existing car park, is expected to
be completed in autumn 2015.
The existing site’s helipad will also be relocated and will
continue to be made available for use by the Welsh Air
Ambulance, a service Control Techniques has been providing for the local community for 8 years.
Control Techniques employs more than 2,000 people
across 55 global locations, including around 600 people
across its two facilities in Newtown.

Manager of the Italian office.
The new appointment is part of a larger
